Came in from the garage and thought I had grease on my phone screen and I kept trying to wipe it off, but it was the wall in the background behind you. That messed me up for a second.
Got a problem with my truck struggling to start. Sometimes it fires up fine, other times it struggles but starts. Last night it failed entirely to start - it *almost* started on attempt 1, but attempts 2 and 3 produced a single click. It then started flawlessly after sitting for about five minutes, but the check engine light was suddenly on. I'm willing to bet money the light will be off tomorrow when I start it up, if it starts at all. I experience no problems with the vehicle's other electrical systems at any point during these incidents.
If it's cranking and almost starting then the issue isn't the starter. Starter would give you a no crank issue. So you either have an issue with your fuel system or the ignition system.
@@8020Media Since the other night, the engine has started just fine every single time. Unfortunately, when it started working again, it also suddenly kicked on the check engine light. I pulled the code, and it's for the ignition control module. You called it.
Thank u for the detailed explanation. Mine the electronic window and all works but no click sound and car wont start. Changed the starter all good, working.
Question for you. If you test the saterter and it tests good. Now remove the wire between the motor and solenoid. Re-energize the signal wire. Obviousluly.the motor won't run, but why doesn't the solenoid work and retract back and push out the drive? Solenoid will not respond without a the motor hooked up! Why? I think if you remove the solenoid from starter , ground at a mounting screw, apply constant 12v on battery + post on solenoid and energize signal wire. The solenoid should retract back! But they won't. Why not?
@@ChadVanryn NO, I'm saying if you remove the actual load (starter motor). Why will a solenoid not actuate / push out drive if the actaul motor isnt working.
I put the key in the ignition lights came on then turned the key, no crank no lights just completely shut off we jumped the car, I took it to get the battery tested at 2 different auto zones and they said the battery and alternator is fine but 1 store said it was the starter but before I spend 300$ on a starter I wanted to get someone else’s opinion if you don’t mind, thank you sir 💯🙏
Y - It certainly sounds like it could be the starter. We have a video that may help here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0YRdzJbHcm4.html
Thank you. I found the video helpful for diagnosing the issue with my car not starting. In my case, when I turn on the ignition, the dashboard lights come on as usual, but the engine won't start-there's no clicking or cranking sound. Sometimes, it will start if I knock on the fuel pump. What would you suggest I do in this situation?
Thanks! Car died and I could not turn the ignition over and there was no sound. Battery checked out good and I replaced the alternator the week before. Hopefully this narrows it down to a bad started. Got it towed back to the house. Looks like a few hours to replace it on a Chevy Colorado 2015.
If you see a battery draw when car is off CAN that still be a starter problem. (Battery shows draw when it is shut off). Thanks for any insight. 2004 Honda Crv.
i should’ve tried the battery test cause my car has trouble starting on the first start of the day but once it’s heated up it has no trouble starting just like if it had no issues so probably is a battery
Sometimes my Nissan Sentra won't start, get 1 click, everything powers off, the hit the push button once, then hit the button to start and starts up... Doesn't do it Everytime, but it's an issue, I don't know if it's the starter or what, only 2yrs old
I have a Pontiac and just recently it started struggling to fire up. Sometimes it starts up fine but once it turn it off and try again it cranks and won’t turn on. It fires up after a few attempts. Any advice on what it could be?
I just had a problem with no crank no start, and everything that I tried and troubleshot pointed to the starter and most garages would have come to the same conclusion. I ordered a new starter, and then watched a video showing how to test a starter without touching it. After I did the test, it showed that nothing at all was wrong with the starter. I then started checking fuses, and I found a blown (Transmission B+) fuse. I replaced that 5 cent fuse, and my Expedition started and ran beautifully. A garage would have charged a few hundred dollars to replace the starter when it cost only 5 cents to fix, and you did not mention anything about fuses hmmmmm.
@@8020Media It is just that a lot of garages will take advantage of people when it turns out to be something so simple. Some also don't take the time to properly diagnose a problem and try to just throw parts at it instead (I know - it has happened to me), and in the end the cost is usually always much much higher than what it would have cost if only they took the time to do a proper diagnosis. Sometimes we need only take a step back for a moment, take a deep breath, and then use common sense and rational to get to the heart of an issue - Just my opinion though :).
My honda civic starts very well i drive it park it then it have trouble starting i wait a few minutes and it an try again an it starts what you think is the problem
What year is your Honda, I got a 2002 Honda civic ex and today I swapped out the battery bc it didn’t want to turn on. Might change the starter next if it doesn’t work might change the alternator next
I did a multimeter test on the starter and it passed the test but these symptoms do sound like my starter failed. only getting one click and wont start with a jump. brand new battery but have a p1701 power supply circuit error code
My car only clicks once, the electrical stuff works fine and it only starts every once in a while. No signs of starter failing until now but some of this sounds like starter failure
My ranger just had a new starter installed and it cranked up stronger than before. Now, it won’t crank at all then out of nowhere will start. Took a mallet and tapped the starter and kicked back up. Could it be something else?
Man i changed my starter solenoid on firewall twice bc the first replacement was wrong now its not doing anything gotta be the starter yay weekend project
My car won’t start at all. I tried to get a jump and it came on but the car never started just clicked over and over. When I took the cables off it just did start not even the lights came on

So if car cranks but wont turn over and there is a grinding sound, it is most likely either battery, possible electrical, or alternator and not the starter? Did i miss anything?
Every once In a while I try ti start my truck I hear a surge of electric but no start after 6 tines trying to start it starts but then after 4 months symptoms disappear then it happens again no crank or start but when it starts it starts
My car has this issue it finally would not turn on until I gave it a jump start as soon as I gave it the jump it turned on I suspect I need a new battery I figured if it was a starter issue it would not turn on with a jump
My 2019 gmc seirra I making a bad grinding sound but kicks in and starts but all power works fine is it my starter you think?? I bought one but now thinking it might not be the starter, please someone help

What if my truck starts fine sometimes but won’t crank sometimes and I get the one click. But sometimes it cranks slow for 2 or 3 rotations then starts
greetings! i have a nissan quest 2013 i had the battery replaced recently and alternator rebuilt a couole months ago i come out today to it not starting no lights or sound when i press the button to start it. i did the jump off test and ir sounds like the engine wants to start but wont then there the continuous clicking sound could this be the starter? or is it my alternator again? gratitude for your help!
I have an issue where I push the button on my 2016 accord to start my car, I hear the electric current run into the starter (grinding noise) but it never ignites. This happens once every three weeks. Not sure what is wrong. It’s so random. And the dealership ran tests and says that everything is fine. Idk
Ok, so what if I have a new battery and a rebuilt alternator. I just had an entire engine overhaul, fixed a bunch of things, replaced all belts and hoses. Lubricants, fluids flushed and replaced. I drove 300 miles yesterday, stopped a few times, everything running great, and then 1 hour left of my drive to get me home, I stopped at a rest area for 20 minutes or so, went to start the car and it tried to turn over, heard some clicks, tried again a second time, then just clicks, and then tried a third time, then nothing. Someone jumped my car, started up immediately, I drove 7 miles to the closest hotel, turned off the car, then tried again, and same thing. Then this morning, got it jumped again, drove the rest of the way to my house, drove line a champ, got home, pulled into the garage, turned off the truck. Tried to start it again, and same thing again. Tried to turn over, and couldn't. I'm so confused. Brand New battery, rebuilt alternator... I'm thinking starter?

I just got my 99 gmc Sierra 2500 out of storage and it wouldnt start and jumped it and started. However then it wouldnt start again after getting gas then i jumped it with a semi ju.p box and started, after that next day wouldnt start. Kid you not i was recording the issue then all the sudden started out of the blue, it started🤔🙏, i left it running and then disconnected the positive battery cable and it started every time. Then today my idiot friend told me it was going to eave me stranded and guess what it did🤬🤯, all day!!! Called insurance at 3:30 pm report it for roadside and it wSnt till dozens of people later the. Telling me i had to wait till tomorrow when i have 2 dogs and 6 more at my friends needed out and i still am ticked, its now past 9 pm and im an hour away from my dogs.. Anyways thenthey said i had to pay out of pocket and itold them i didnt care if i had a million dollars iwouldnt pay a single penny and i pay insurance every month so i dont have too. They kept arguing i told them they gonna have to pay so the out of service guy she sent to me and i called them and told them i didnt want to waste their time of insurance wasnt paying cuz my ass is broke. However i already had my friend have amother guy come to help although his charger wouldnt work. At the same time he shwed up then the orher people showed up🫣🤣... Well they both said it was my started however its always started by jumping the battery. And it is a walmart junk battery. There was a huge spark wheniwas trytto tighten my cables earlier and i could never get spark after that from no ones cables. The truck started however lightss were dim then they went bright then they shut off and my truck light necer go off. I actually had to turn them on to use them then after 5-10 minutes of driving they back to always on no matter what. My radio dont work now. Amd forgot to mention i have a whole world armys of mice living in my truck and they chewed up everything so i think its nore of wires are chewed then anything. But i still dont know 🧐.. im scared to shut it off or even go take it to get tested. What are your thoughts? Just replace all the relays or switch em all over to dofferent spots?????? Nornally starters give you some sign but this is a 99 gmc. Also when he said it was the starter cuz it only had one click, they tapped it with a hammer and it still wouldnt start. Only when he used the semi jump box it started. Also since the other day when i got it out of storage, i noticed the radio is what was making the beeping noise constantly even though the radio was never on. So i thought eqrlier when i disconnected the battery hoping when i reconnected it that it would start, but it didnt.. i also took the radio fuse out however it is a 20 amp supposed to be a 15 amd after i did that i lost all dash lights and things when you start it and only had one so i reconnected the fuse and everything went back to normal except the radio now wont even work one little bit. So now im really confused and not aure qhat to do? Any thoughts?

1999 Silverado, battery wont hold a charge more than a day. Charge it up drive it around and it runs fine. Let it sit a day or 2 and dead. - im not convinced its rhe starter, and it has the proper voltage when running to rule out the alternator. Sticker on the battery says 4/22 - surely it isnt bad already??
So when i start my car it sounds like its skipping n not starting then i turn the key off quick start it again it starts n also when i roll my windows up my headlights n all lights in the car dimmer down then brighten up .can anyone help chrysler3002010
I need help I’m on my second battery since February and it’s already bad not to mention I’ve replaced my alternator which was burnt now idk what the issue with my battery
My car wont start and the starter would continue to turn 4 orn5 after i turned the key backnto accessory mode. I replaced the start and it still does the same thing
I’m getting all my lights and radio turn on but when I turn my key to start nothing happens at all no noise nothing, but my car has been starting no problems at all and this morning it just didn’t start, can a starter just die out of nowhere?
It could for sure if the solenoid seized up or something. But I wouldn't jump to that conclusion very quickly...check the basics...I'd start with looking at the fuses and checking the battery.
My car won’t start unless I jump start it then it will start up just fine for the rest of the day but the locks on my keys sometimes won’t work that’s how I know my car is not going to start but if the lock button on my keys unlock my doors than I know my car is going to start what could that be or mean?
Thank you. I thought it was my srarter but didn't really know. But this is very educational. Gives me knowledge and advantage when I have to take it for repair. Women are taken advantage of at repair shops. ❤
Note: these notes will apply to American made cars from the early 60’s to the late 80’s, or 90’s. I left the Auto Parts industry at that time, working on my own cars only. I lost touch with the industry when I went back to school and became an engineering technician in electronics. When you hear a starter spinning and it doesn’t drop in RPM, the starter bendix is most likely the problem.the bendix is what engages with the flywheel. It is clutch driven, the clutch being like the one on a mini bike in that when it engages the flywheel and starter is spinning a sprang clutch makes the bendix spin in only one direction. If the bendix is bad it won’t drive the flywheel and allow the starter motor to spin free. If the bendix engages the flywheel gear and the motor spins but doesn’t have enough energy to turn the engine over, either you have a bad battery or a starter that is failing. In that case you can put a volt meter, ( or a multimeter set to dc volts from set at 20 volts or so), and have a friend crank the engine. Typically the voltage with drop to about 9 or 10. Lots while the starter is cranking. If it drops further and the battery load test fine, check the battery cables. If they show little to no resistance they are ok and the terminals are clean the starter is probably at fault. if it clicks either the battery voltage is too low to or is bad. If the battery load test good then the starter solenoid is suspect. On early GM engines the solenoid sits on the starter motor like the starters in the video, and they can be changed independent of the starter motor. Two screws and a tab are all the hold it in place. Some older solenoids had copper on both sides of the contact disc inside the solenoid. Since these are not available as rebuilt units I would take them apart and turn the contact disc around so that there are clean contact surfaces to transfer voltage to the starter motor. But before going nuts you can check the primary windings for continuity with a multimeter, or read the resistance of those windings. They are basically an electromagnet the pulls the piston attached to the starter bendix into the flywheel. If those windings have burned up the start will do nothing except help hold the front wheels on the ground. The assembly is basically dead weight until a new solenoid is installed. On Fords a separate solenoid is mounted on the Passenger side fender well and are easy to replace. Chrysler has their solenoid mounted internally. They are inside the starter. I’ve never bothered to replace those, but have seen very few failures because Chrysler start motors use gear reduction to ease the load on the starter motor, giving them an advantage over other brands.
Great video chief, you share good information as I was getting the rapid click and no start, I changed the starter, it worked for few days and the rapid clicking is back and it does not start...so, I'll keep trying all the issues that you pointed out. Thanks for sharing.

When I try to start my Chevy I hear a weird low whirring and it dies out. I’ve switched out all the cartridge fuses and mini blade fuses. Replaced the battery. But I still can’t get it to start. So I’m assuming it’s the starter?
I have a weird issue myself. Been changing out parts on my Mitsubishi to get it back on the road. Yesterday I had changed the input shaft speed sensor so I had to remove battery tray etc.. well it started back up and drove really well. This morning I come out to test drive again and I turn the key.. no crank.. battery is brand new lights radio work but when you turn it over you see the power drain and you hear a whirling noise but nothing else. i get the clicking noise when the choke is on so i cant start it on choke,it takes two goes but it does fire up.Is it the starter motor thats at fault?
My car doesn’t start it lights up all the electricals but when I try to turn it on it switches everything off and died like a switch was flicked. Then I jump start it and it works until I try to turn it on again. Not even overnight just when it turns off. I checked the battery at autozone and it was 100 percent working they said. So idk what’s wrong
It doesn’t fail to start all the time though it’s random and inconsistent. I’ve noticed it at night mostly when I leave my car parked for 5 hours for work. It starts sometimes and other doesnt
Check your battery grounds, sometimes they’re loose and when you start your car the connection fails. I had the same thing in my Honda, would die randomly but figured it was a ground that either goes to the battery or the engine.
My truck starts fine in the morning. If i turn it off after running for 20 minutes, it will start again right away, but if it sits for 30 or so minutes after running, it has a slow start. Any idea here?
I have a 2016 sonata that sometimes just clicks and dashboards power surges. Battery voltages is good but just click but it does crank and fires right up when jumped. Do you believe it’s the starter?
My 2006 impala struggles to start but has power. Once the car is running it has no problems but the moment I turn the car off & try to turn it back on it’ll give me issues. Sometimes it won’t turn on sometimes it’ll turn on slowly after holding the key for a slight longer.

I occasionally have trouble starting my car and I can’t seem to figure out the root of the issue. One day everything will be running perfectly fine and then the next, I’ll go to turn on the car as usual. But this time when I try to turn to the last position to start the motor with the key, I hear a click and all electrical power is lost. And when I go to try again to turn the car on none of my accessories turn on this time. No lights at all none of buttons on my key fob work. Completely dead… But after a day or so and testing relays and fuses and making sure the battery measures at 12.5v (I’ve had the battery for less than a yr) my car will work perfectly fine again. I drive an 09 Acura TL base model but if anyone has experience this and knows what causes this to happen please help. I’m open to suggestions and would like to learn.
I pulled my starter fulling expecting to replace it and noticed the small wire had broken off the clip that attaches to the solenoid. Did the best I could to reattach it, saved $150.

Hi, I having this symptom click sound no crank and all lights on dash is working. It crank and start normally but click no crank occasionally. Replace solenoid, solenoid relay, rewiring and new battery. It crank few second before it start even with new battery could it be starter is failing?
Clicking is usually the battery not having enough voltage. Try starting it with it on a battery charger or jumping it. If it has a really weak crank then it could be your starter motor is on its way out and is weak. But if the crank is strong and then just dies off in a few seconds it sounds like a battery related issue

Praying my starter is bad and not something wrong with the anti theft system on my 97 ford ranger. It acted like a dead battery about 1 out of 3 times trying to start over the last week. Just get a CLICK when trying to turn the key. I was able to push it and bump start it okay (luckily its a stick). Checked the battery is putting out 12.5v and when I bump start and get it running, alternator is putting out 14.2v. Also checked the solenoid is getting power, it sparks when you put a wrench across it.
I own a Acura integra 1999 LS automatic. My car starts when it’s cool but then shuts off within a minute. I try turning it on again, the car won’t turn. I gave it some gas as in I press the gas pedal 5 times and then it starts and stops running on its own shortly. It’s also hard to get my car running after the 1st time turning it on. Weird thing is when I’ve my car running and remove the negative battery terminal the car runs and doesn’t turns off.
@@8020Media my battery is fine, I charge the battery and it’s at 80% with 12V. The alternator is good too because when I turn on my car and remove the negative terminal cable off the battery. The car was operating by itself for more than 3 minutes.
