Taking a look at the story of the forgotten luxury sedan from Chrysler, the 2006 Imperial concept car. This was a large, noble car that commanded authority, with killer looks, a beautiful interior, and a 5.7L V8 Hemi. It reminds you of very upscale luxury sedans like those from Rolls-Royce or Bentley, but would have cost a fraction of that, between $55,000 - $75,000. Unfortunately, the timing and costs didn't work out, leaving many to wonder, 'What If'?

I never minded when owners would change the grill to a Bentley styled one but once I started seeing people change the actual manufacturers badge from Chrysler to Bentley it started to annoy me. Lol It's designed to look more like a Benz E-Class from the the early 90's not a Bentley Flying Spurr... but posers will be posers.. I saw a Mercedes-Benz SLK driving the other day and the guy had rebadged it to SL65 AMG, it took me a moment to figure out why the proportion looked all off till I got next to him and realised it was an SLK.

They should have made this car. Maybe even made it its own brand like SRT or even have Imperial level trim on 300s too like Maybach/MB. It would have hurt the 300 sales a bit but it would have a different market. Family/Touring market vs The Imperial would have strictly been a luxury coach. The Imperial would have been everywhere from Concourse de Elegance to every Rap video and it would have taken over that market that may not get a 300 over a MB. If Chrysler couldn't keep it to the standard of the concept then I understand why they scrapped it. All Or nothing

I wish Chrysler brings back the Imperial and New Yorker cars, it does not feel like Chrysler without them, they had the idea and is should of been in production but it is ashame really, it would be a good rival or competition for the likes of Roll's, Bentley's, Merc's, BMW's, Lincoln's and such of the time especially could go against the new Lincoln Continental and it is a good luxury and expensive version of the 300 and I am sure the Imperial fans and ruch kids would buy it for their collection, just is if as long as they improve their interior quality and such before they do, so yeah

Thanks for the video. I forgot about this vehicle when it was first announced. Appreciate the reminder, it just demonstrates how creative Chrysler used to be. I think the Imperial would have made a fine car for Chrysler, as they needed a halo car for the brand. At the time consumers were focused on cars and not SUVs, like they are today. This car would have attracted buyers who were leaving American brands for Lexus. Fast forward to 2019, Chrysler doesn’t seem to have a future although they have a storied history. If only they took a risks, and Cerberus didn’t gut their R&D, things could be different. Thanks again.

I don't see what stillantis has planned for Chrysler. But,to bring this idea out of mothballs and replace the 300 with it would be an amazing move..

The SUV craze had been underway for many years. You mean the crossover craze was starting.

This car would make more sense today especially with the Genisis, Lincoln Continental, Volvo S90, Audi A8, Mercedes S Class, Lexus LS600, BMW 7 series, and Infiniti Q70

I can't get over how the back of the car almost looks like THE FRONT with no grille. Just waiting for a Chrysler sedan EV with the front ACTUALLY LIKE the back of this (no radiator so no grille).

They should've built this car in limited numbers. I would've loved to own one

I also see a little Toyota Century ( autoweek.com/article/tokyo-motor-show/no-modern-luxury-sedan-can-touch-toyota-century ) in this iteration of the Imperial. Great vid as always, man.

With the SUV craze, I would like to see an Imperial SUV that would compete with the Lincoln's.

You'd get a restyled Dodge Durango renamed the Chrysler Aspen Imperial or some such, with all the quality issues that Chrysler is known for...

Remember the Plymouth Accolade it was supposed to be the cheapest LH platform car. You think you could do a video on that?

I think that Chrysler had the coolest concepts. Gotta love the early 2000's.

What could have been and the moment lost because of not doing it is the best title for this video. Had Chrysler built this and made it through the recession, it would have been a halo car that could have rebuilt Chrysler in many ways. Alas, it was cut. Can you imagine what the second generation could have been with FCA at the helm? I bet it would have been on a Maserati chassis.
