I confess that I am mostly a car guy and know little about planes. However, I watched the owner and his wife touch down at the Truckee Tahoe Airport for a weekend getaway with us at the Lake. It took my wife an I three and a half hours to drive to the lake from the SF Bay Area. It took them about 45 minutes in the Columbia, coming and going like rock stars. I'm thinking maybe I need to consider this airplane thing.

I have about three or 400 hours flying a SR 22 and probably right at the same Cessna Ttx. Although neither one were my planes, I flew a facial reconstruction dentist around Texas for 6y the first three years was in the Cessna the last three up until six months ago before he retired in the cirrus. That TTX beat it in every single category in my opinion, speed, comfort, and just overall well built. The only thing I never did not like was that funky looking nose wheel on the Cessna. You got a big sporty looking airplane and you look at it from the tail to the front and then you get to that pogo stick front end 🤣.

How about baggage area space?
@av8rboy40
@av8rboy40 8 месяцев назад
The baggage area is about 3 ft by 4, enough for 3 large roller bags, if you include the shelf at the back, its about another 2 by 3. You can also take the back seats out in about 5 minutes and you end up with a large space that will carry two mountain bikes and camping gear@@FlyingNDriving

Very nice airplane! Awhile ago I had a chance to look at one parked on a ramp. Like Cirrus and Diamond, these are designed like 2020 airplanes, not 1940-ish. The wing shapes, leading edge and chord at the end, to improve aileron control. Steeper chord and tucked in at the root, to improve stall, and when the fuselage is tucked in behind the cabin, provide better air flow over the empennage, for better R and E control. These should be quieter, faster and more fuel efficient... and a great value!! Thanks for the ride!! 8) --gary

I would only add: 1. They don’t like grass as well as a Bonanza. 2. You can’t tow them backwards with those main gear legs.

Funny you brought up aileron control, I remember in my SR22 short final on a gusty day I was flaps full 80 knots over the fence.. lost aileron control a bit higher than stall speed of course. Perhaps LLWS but didn't feel that was the case. Spooked me anyway..nice to hear the Columbia seems to handle that kind of config a bit better.

Very unique airplane indeed, too bad they stopped making them. I think it had a great potential, nothing bad about the Cirrus but I really like these more. Unfortunately not many out there in the market but at least they are still supported by Cessna.

Try the Little Aviator Café for breakfast @ Apple Valley Ca. airport (KAPV) in a future video. Good food 🙂

I don’t know if you (Rich) have your own personal plane or not but….If you could own a plane or 2 what would be in your hangar? I have a 1973 Piper Arrow II, fast enough to go places still inexpensive enough for me to have as a toy. I stuck with Piper as that is what I learned to fly in the 80’s, I am comfortable in the Pipers.

If I was looking to build hours and work on my instrument rating definitely a plane I would consider. I used to follow them in the used market and one thing I noticed was a lot of rebuilt engines well under TBO, in many cases under 1,000 hours on the twin turbos. Was always curious was that was, too tight of a cowling?
@FlyingNDriving
@FlyingNDriving 8 месяцев назад
Why "build hours" in a plane that fast expensive and thirsty. You need hours not a large fuel bill

Hey Rich, what’s your opinion on this category(ttx/sr22t) vs something like a p210n?
@FlyingwithRich
@FlyingwithRich 8 месяцев назад
I would choose a 400 or SR22T probably. I forgot how much I like the 400 until I flew for this video. Can’t really go wrong on a 210 - I would go with a T210N, not a huge fan of the P210.

Noise gate on these audio recordings is very intrusive. It really ruines the whole video much more than low quality pictures would. Makes it quite hard to follow. I don’t know if the level at which noise gate is activated can be adjusted, but it would be worthwhile investigating. It’s a pity because these videos are otherwise so interesting, but to me, this is like going through a dentist session for the ears without anesthesia.

That’s a pretty lousy standard - going to the dentist - ouch. Audio is tough for us - but will continue to try to improve!
