Whoa, this is amazing! It sounds like she's been studying Russion for years and years and years--although, if you think about it, she was living in Japan, and then in the U.S. until a couple of years ago...
I thought that this was such an odd pairing at first, but hearing her speak fluent Russian is amazing. It really is a statement about the state of Russian pairs skating if they are Russia's top pair (no offense to her.) Another commentator said that she must give up her Japanese citizenship in order to skate for Russia (and she doesn't want to.) I wouldn't want to either. I'd think it would be more beneficial for him to become a Japanese citizen. Who knows.
