If you still own it, and still have this issue, check the transmission fluid. I’ve owned a couple of vehicles that did this when the transmission fluid got low, personally never owned a Explorer, but that may solve the problem.
I had this very same issue on my 07 Sport Trac Explorer, went away when i dropped the transmission pan, replaced the filter and refilled with 6qts of OEM Mecron SP. While the the pan is down try adding a drain plug so you can drain and refill every 10k miles, the newer the fluid the better for the transmission.
Wow, this is exactly what mine is doing... I'm surprised no one has a definitive solution for this. I've heard of people replacing the torque converter only to have the issue reappear a year or two later. I started to get the rumble strip problem so I changed fluid/filter and that took care of that part of the problem. Then I replaced plugs, COPs, fuel filter, throttle body, cleaned MAF sensor, reset PCM and still no cure for the problem. I guess the next step is to take it in for diagnosis, but I'm afraid all they are going to say is either reprogram the PCM or replaced transmission/torque converter. Ugh, a trade in might be in my future. Thanks for posting!
Andrew Welsh I'm pretty sure it was the torque converter. As soon as I got to my home state, I traded it in and didn't want to deal with it anymore. I also had overheating that was caused by a bad fan clutch and clogged radiator. I had just replaced the fan clutch and flushed the radiator twice right before that. I called it quits after all of those problems.
I have this in my 2006 explorer now and also the rumble strip sound. I dont plan on get rid of it anytime soon so should i change the torque converter?
@@williamstokes6541 had this same issue, I dropped the transmission pan, changed the filter and refilled with OEM Mecron SP. Problem decreased significantly to the point you couldn't feel the shuddering/jumping anymore but I can still see the rpms slightly jump while cruising, problem permanently went away for good when i replaced my Coils to OEM motorcraft coils, dont cheap out on the atf and coils they are pricey but they made my explorer drive like a brand new vehicle.
@@mr.boostang2064 so at the end it was only the coils? I just bought a 2010 expolice vehicle with 60k on it, after a month with the explorer, it started doing that
It started doing the "rumble strip" feeling when the RPM's jumped. This was probably related to the torque converter issue that many of these vehicles have. I traded it in for a new Dodge before it got any worse.
