Wish I would have found your video earlier. Pulled the belt off of my civic and compared to the new oam. The new one was longer and I went back to the store to make sure I got the right one. Ended up going to Dealer and buying a Honda belt and it was still longer...but I saw the new and old diagram for routing. Which made sense why the new one was longer...! Live and learn. Thanks...keep up the good work.
Excellent video. Thank you for including all of the additional information so that I can chose whether to go with the authentic Honda belt or with the belt that is probably just a good.
Thanks a lot! I got the new belt and after trying to fix it and realized it is longer than the old belt I returned it to the store. It has been a week and I’ve been to three different stores. I’m currently waiting for a special order from one of the stores. The new routing path explains it all. 👍
Glad it was helpful, wish you could've seen it before you went back and forth to return things when all you needed to do was route the belt differently from before.
replacement belt is 6 mm longer and that extra length besides the rerouting is solution for not breaking the piviot bolt due to for higt tension. Very good video 🙂
THANK YOU for this video! Getting the belt around all the pulleys was a massive pain in the ass but with my father's help we managed to get it done. Realized my entire passengers side motor mount had somehow let go and the entire engine on passengers side was almost sitting on the ground. The belt was rubbing against exposed metal which shredded the serpentine belt. Somehow we managed to use a giant prybar to move the engine back to its proper place and got 1 bolt in the motor mount to hold... Hopefully it holds on for awhile 🤞🤞 Great video tho!
Bruh I thought this was hard😂 I need to upgrade my alternator to a higher amperage w a smaller pulley. Point is that im trying to do it my self big 3 upgrade alt upgrade and agm upgrade upfront. its pretty even though I haven’t done it. RU-vid has been my best friend for the diy mechanic very helpful I’m also running a 1500w for 2 12s and 500 for the speakers in my civic I also have a battery in the back.
Help!!! 2007 Civic Ex Coupe (Canadian). I can't get the serpentine belt on. I've tried Bando 7PK2164, Genuine Honda 7PK2170, Gates 7PK2150, etc and neither will not clear the alternator pulley. It's like it's too short. I am following the new routing diagram. The tensioner and bolt are brand new. `ANy advice appreciated!
Hmm...interesting. Have you talked to the Honda dealership yet? What size belt do they recommend? What I would do is measure the belt, then go down to your local auto parts store and find a belt that's a bit longer. Sounds like the correct part numbers are out the window for you at this point.
I have no idea without trying myself. You'd have to see yourself. All you need to do is open the hood and try? Should only take 10 seconds to figure it out?
Do you know if there is a length difference in the OEM 04301-RNA-307 vs the bando 7PK2170? Is it a 6mm difference in length? In your video was your belt the Honda oem one and was it hard to get back over the alternator pully? I’ve got the Honda OEM belt just wondering if it is slightly smaller than the Bando aftermarket one even though bando makes the OEM belts
They theoretically should be the same size because the Bando part is an OEM replacement for the genuine part. I had a hard time trying to figure this out, which is why I went with the genuine belt, just to be sure. I didn't have any issues getting the Honda belt over the pulley. 6mm is not that much. Since the adjuster is hydraulic anyway, the 6mm shouldn't cause an issue trying to get that belt on. Move stretch over time anyway, so the adjuster will take care of it.
@@nukem384, 6mm difference would be hard to tell by comparing belt and original belt has no markings on it at all. Do you know if either of them will work - Bando part number 7PK2170 replaces 7PK2164? Thanks
@@maverickperson5443 can you not look up the specs of each belt online? But for 6mm, that's such a tiny difference. I would think you'd be fine then. The tensioner is adjustable for a reason. And over the life of the belt, it's going to stretch more than that.
I got a gates tensioner and belt kit about a year ago and its made the hissing sound since it was almost new. the numbers have worn off since but i bet got the smaller one. who knows how old the kits are and i dont think it says the model belt on the box. I remember pullin pretty far to get that belt on. Just seemed odd. I'll update this when I get the 7PK2170 on.
Hey are the belts on your description still the right ones on Amazon ? Would like to know if you listed them to make easier for people and just click on either and order them. Thank you
Yes they are correct. Link to the genuine part and link to the aftermarket OEM part. Both should work. But for things like this, I always stick to the genuine part just because I know there won't be any fitment issues.
Hey, my civic makes a noise between 1500- 2000 rpms and only does it on the right side passenger side, while accelerating. I've changed all the pulleys except alternator because they said its running fine and the only one that hasn't been replaced is the ac compressor. The noise is really obnoxious and only does it when j drive and it's super loud. Any, suggestions?
I mean, you've changed all the pullies besides one. Are you able to zero in on the noise and see if it's that AC compressor pulley? Also, make sure they are torqued to the correct spec. That could be the issue also.
You're going to lose power to a lot of systems. I would not drive the car if that happens. If you're on the road, pull over immediately and get the car towed.
Only thing I would check is make sure the actual belt is actually 7PK2170. I'm sure the packaging said that, but I've had a time where the physical product instead the marked box was not the same and I had oil all over my garage floor because of it (oil filter).
Two things I can think of. Either you have a defective belt/reallyyyyyy old belt, or your pulleys might be doing the damage. Check the pulleys and make sure your belt is aligned correctly when you install a new one.
I'm assuming you're routing it the new way? Can you even route it the old way to get it on? Also, does the actual belt have the correct part number on it? Sometimes the wrong belt can get placed in the packaging.
@@divin3kag3242 Hmm...that's interesting. This is one of the reasons I always go with Honda genuine parts. Assuming it's the right part, there's no worrying about fitment issues. I suppose if you bought it at an autopart store, the easiest thing to do is to ask them to find you the proper length belt based on the new pattern.
@@nukem384 i know but the folk at the auto parts store swear on these parts like they are out here changing the parts and make you seem like you're crazy or doing something wrong. Hopefully i can find the longer belt for when i install the revised new way.
Tried changing mine and couldn’t get it I eat the alternator pulley I tried for a solid 2 hours. Put the old belt back on it took 3 mins. Wrong belt maybe?
@@benjamingarcia1072 It shouldn't be hard to get the belt over the pulley. If you're loosening the tensioner as shown, which it sounds like you know how to do, the belt should be easy to seat. I agree with you that it's probably the wrong size. I guess time to return and get another belt. Google the size of the belt, that way it's correct next time.
I would try and use the new style if the belt is long enough. It's better for the parts and obviously what Honda recommends. If it doesn't fit and you have to use the old method, just do that. It's not the end of the world.
so if my car sounds whiney as hell, its my belt?? sometimes when im turning with my wheel cranked 100% to the right or left, it basically makes a crunching sound. anyone know if my belt is shot or if its something else?? :(
