I'M WRITING THIS IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I DEFINITELY WANT TO SHOW HOW GRATEFUL AND THANKFUL I AM FOR YOU AND THIS VIDEO. THIS INFORMATION SAVE ME FROM BEING STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. EARLIER IN THE DAY MY CAR WAS INTERMITTENTLY NOT CRANKING SO NO CRANK NO START WHEN I WOULD GO TO START THE VEHICLE EVERYTHING LITERALLY WOULD TURN ON AS IT SHOULD AND THE CORRECT SEQUENCE AND ORDER UNTIL IT GOT DOWN TO CRANKING THE ENGINE OVER. IT WOULDN'T CLICK OR DO ANYTHING IT WOULD TURN THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AS IF IT WAS GOING TO CRANK OVER BUT THERE WAS SILENCE. YOU COULD HEAR ALL OF THE PROPER RELAYS CLICKING ON AND OFF AS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO FUEL PUMP COMING ON AND OFF LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BUT AFTER THAT YOU WILL GET COMPLETE SILENCE. THE FIRST COUPLE TIMES IT HAPPENED I LOOKED DOWN TO SEE IF I HAD THE CAR IN DRIVE OR IN REVERSE BECAUSE THAT WAS EXACTLY THE TYPE OF THING IT WAS DOING. BUT THE CAR WAS DEFINITELY IN THE PARK POSITION. SO I SHIFTED IT FROM PARK TO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO PARK AGAIN AND IT STARTED. I THOUGHT WOW THAT WAS KIND OF STRANGE. A COUPLE HOURS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN BUT IT TOOK MORE PARKED TO NEUTRAL PARK TO NEUTRAL SHIFTING BEFORE I FINALLY COULD GET IT TO START. THEN IT DAWNED ON ME YOU KNOW WHAT IT SEEMS LIKE THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH IS NOT ALLOWING THE CAR TO CRANK. SO I PULLED OUT MY HANDY OBD2 SCANNER BUT GOT NO CODES REGARDING THE PARK NEUTRAL SWITCH BUT I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT MY BATTERY POST WERE SIGNIFICANTLY CORRODED SO I CLEANED THEM REALLY WELL AND OF COURSE NOTHING HAPPENED THE CAR DID NOT CRANK IT DID THE SAME THING. SO I STARTED GOING THROUGH ALL OF THE FUSES AND RELAYS EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. SO I THOUGHT I DEFINITELY NEED TO FIND WHERE IN THE CRANK SEQUENCE DID THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH SHOULD DEACTIVATE. WELL AFTER A COUPLE OF RESEARCH VIDEOS THAT LET ME KNOW WHERE I RAN ACROSS THIS VIDEO HERE. AND WHEN I TELL YOU IT WAS LIKE GOD SENT YOU EXPLAINED EVERYTHING SO WELL FROM THE BEGINNING ALL THE WAY TO THE POINT OF THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH DOING ITS PART AND HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT IT I WAS ABLE TO FOLLOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID ALL THE WAY DOWN TO TESTING FOR VOLTAGE AT THE STARTER RELAY AND MOVING ON TO THE NEXT TWO PIN CONNECTIONS ON THE RELAY WHICH ONE ACTIVATED THE STARTER AND THE OTHER ACTIVATED THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH. SO FOLLOWING YOUR INSTRUCTIONS ON BYPASSING THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH BY PUTTING A JUMPER BETWEEN THE STARTER AND NEUTRAL SAFETY PIN CONNECTIONS THAT WOULD BYPASS THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD START IF THE PROBLEM IS THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH. WELL IMMEDIATELY AFTER DOING SO THE CAR FIRED RIGHT UP WITH NO PROBLEM. SO I FOUND A WAY TO TEMPORARILY KEEP THAT JUMPER IN PLACE... SO THAT I COULD MAKE IT HOME WHICH WAS ALMOST 2 HOURS AWAY. SO AGAIN YOU DID A PHENOMENAL JOB WITH THIS INFORMATION AND THE WAY IT WAS DELIVERED. YOU ARE DEFINITELY ONE OF MY TOP FIVE RU-vid CHANNELS FOR DIY HELPFUL AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR INFORMATION AND REFERENCE... KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND I DEFINITELY WILL BE SHARING THIS VIDEO WITH SOME OTHER MECHANIC BUDDIES AND FELLOW DIYers!
You rock, thanks .unfortunately my "mechanic" had me replace my battery the first visit, alternator 2nd, then 3rd visit for spark plugs im out $ 1,000 and the issue continues.
Great troubleshooting steps and systematic. The logical thought process from the most likely to least likely BEFORE changing out your starter (as the final change) is awesome.
Extremely detailed video! Absolutely exceeded the expectations. Hopefully the relay is the cause of my friends civic difficulty in starting up. Thank you for the valuable sprinkle of knowledge!!
Brother you just saved my around $600 which also include towing hassle just wanted to say thanks for this informative video glad you posted it and I saw it on time 🙏🙏
😍 thank you so much for putting this detailed video out on here - even though it didn't help me because the trouble shooting steps didn't start my car, it was great to at least be able to try these steps first!! Looks like my starter motor is dead.
incredibly helpful. came across this trying to troubleshoot an entirely different issue but was still great information for me as I maintain my civic. thanks mate
Dude. Thank you. My car was being weird. Occasional no-click, no-crank, and then it would fire right right up after holding the key in the crank position for a few seconds. Swapped out the starter relay, and it seems to be fixed. I believe this is the same style/manufacturer as the AC relay I replaced 3-4 years ago for similar behavior. Thank you.
Hey man thanks for the awesome video. i was wondering, do you know of a video or perhaps have a video where your using a multimeter to measure the voltage for thosre female pins fromt he starter relay? im not sure how i should ground the black wire to check for voltage
Thanks so much, I am having trouble with the car not starting on occasion. So I will switch the two relays and see if that improves things moving forward. And if I have trouble with my windows....replace the relay! Either this or the starter is going, which is not uncommon for older gen 8 civics.
Great video! Can you explain how to replace the passenger unlock relay? My Honda Civic has a problem: only the driver door unlock using the FOB and inside power lock panel.
Hello I have a question , so I've been swapping my auto r18 to manual over the past few weeks just doing little pieces on weekends. Anyway, I've got the CMC and clutch pedal installed and the problem is, since I have auto wiring my car does not have the connections for the clutch interlock and clutch pedal position switches. I've done some research and the only way to get the connections is to buy a "engine room wiring harness" which is a harness that lines the drivers side of the engine bay. It feeds in to the cabin through the firewall, along with it connects to the headlights, horn, airbags, things of that nature and it costs about $ 500- $ 705. So my question is: is there a way to bypass or "jerry-rig" the sensors so they can work properly? Otherwise I can't start the car without a functioning interlock switch.
This was a great video. I'm trying to figure out an issue and I think it's the starter. Battery checked good today on a tester. On cold cold mornings 15-20F in Colorado the car will act like a dead battery with a good crank then slow to nothing. If I try again it may go slow. Then if I wait a minute it fires up like like everything is fine. I wasn't sure if this could be cause by any other issue than a failing starter. it does make a sound like the starter gear is slow to retract and grinds on occasion too in the cold. I'm just trying everything before attempting the starter replacement as I know it's a nightmare on this engine. If you had any symptoms like this and it wasn't the starter let me know. Thanks again for the video.
Same problem. If cold sometimes it starts, or turns and turns without turning on like no fuel. But then runs fine. I hear a hear a light spinning noise by the bottom fuses. Where he replaced the relay. Next start up fine. Don't know if gas or relay or starter. Lol.
Hi great video, I have a 2008 Honda Civic Ex and when I turn on my blinkers the hazard lights also flash. I was told it’s the turn signal/hazard lights relay. Do you know where it’s located? If so can you please let me know thank you.
Hey man I have a 2006 civic si im getting code p0685 from what I looked up looks like its the pcm relay but im not sure reallt lost in the basic electric stuff like fuses relays do they have a certain amp that i need to look for or..
When I move the key to start, no crank and nothing happens - no buzzing from ignition switch and immobilizer light is off too. All lights show up on the cluster, battery/alternator have been tested good and starter was replaced few months back. Could it be bad grounds causing this behavior? Have cleaned and tightened all battery connections and grounds, so far issue has not returned again so just asking as I don't want to be stranded. Thx for an excellent video.
If the main relay malfunctions, will the ignition lights still come on? My friend tried starting her 2006 Honda Civic, all lights came on, when she tried turning it over all lights went out. I assume it will be either the main 100 amp fuse or the 50 amp fuse you pointed to at the beginning of the video. Thanks in advance for your help.. PS Really helpful video and nicely described.
Hey man, I did the probe light to test where the starter relay fuse go in.. the ignition switch 2 holes you were talking about on the left didn’t show any light and also the 2 holes on the right showed only one light (Right one, NO left one light) do you think it’s my ignition switch? 2007 Honda Civic Si .. I can show you a video also what I did
Hello, my 04 civic doest start. when i try i listen a click sound on main relay and a click on starter and sometimes on solenoid. my 04 civic is automatic. i make a direction conection between ignition and starter and now The car starts but The autmotic is on emergency mode just Swift first and second
Regarding the blue middle "main" relay. I see it's for the fuel pump. Obviously you need that to start the car, but internally, would that relay have any bearing on a no crank/no start issue?
I got a question about this video my car when I try to turn it on make noise right on those relays and I have to turn the key couple time to turn on y replace Starter and key and nothing what do you think it is
Hello, I have a quick question, I own a 2002 Model Honda Civic Prosmatic. I am facing an issue with it that whenever I drive it for more than 10Kms even on 80KM/H speed my car dies and after turning the switch off and on it restarts as normal. I have changed fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, main relay and so much electrical stuff but still facing the same issue. Can you help me with that?
I have an issue with my 06 civic. I have to open both doors and pump the gas pedal hard in order for the vehicle to crank... Can it be an electrical issue?
Hello, having an issue with my daughter's 2011 honda civic lx 1.8l . The car is turning over however won't start also I noticed the neutral switch isn't working...I checked all fuses they appear to be good. Any suggestions would be helpful.
I can’t get a crank from my starter, when I turn the key everything comes up except the starter cranking I checked the fuse as you said and still nothing any help?
I got a issue where there is no power on the dashboard , windows dont work , so it seems like since there is no power on the dashboard , the system cant read the key fob and doesnt let the car to start, im not too sure on what to try to fix this
@@mikecosta7591 Starter itself was bad. Including tow and labor because I didn't want to do it myself (1. Heard it's a big pain to get to 2. Also heard there's a sensor of some sort that is easily broken/knocked loose that will potentially cost another 200-300 to fix in the same area) it cost me roughly 800$. Now the starter doesn't even do a quarter crank and it fires up first try every time.
My 06 Honda won’t start after sitting. Have to hold the key on for about 30 seconds in the morning before work. I think I’m gonna switch the relays and try. Already replaced ignition switch
