A quick walk through on removal of factory (OEM) stereo head unit - with dis-assembly of the front dash - from Mazda Miata NC 2006, and a swipe for Alpine iDA-x305s.
This is a GREAT, time saving video. I just finished installing a Neo ProLink 3V9 i-pod adapter in my 2006 Mazda Miata. After trying to get to the radio on my own, I thought about You Tube and found this one. Probably saved me hours of frustration and scratched panels. Thanks for the video. You were a great help. Nice dog, too.
I had a huge problem with that bolt too, and thought to myself "What were they thinking". Then a local expert/shop gave me the answer. It's to prevent theft. :-)
This also works for later nc models but be careful those two trim pieces have two screws that are under the console on later nc models mine was a 2012 and it had the screws
Great video. I would think most people would leave that Bolt out if you're doing an exact swap with the same Bose system. I would guess Mazda put that bolt there so your car stereo cannot be easily stolen.
FYI this doesn't work on all NC models, my 2013 needed to have the whole armrest/shifter trim partially removed to reach 2 screws that hold the "side panels" which in this video he just pops out with a screwdriver
@Vittorio Sicilia The most important reason is so that the airbags don't accidentally deploy in your face while you are tinkering with the cars electronics.
I'm replacing my stock head unit for a Sony head unit that has 45 rms x 4 built in class D amplifier. Do I need to disconnect an existing amplifier (If the stock Miata radio has one)? I don't have the Bose system.
Hello, could you connect the dimmer cable to the car? Wich one is it? Wich colour?, i have the same car and i changed the radio to a double din too, JVC KW-M730BT. The radio have the dimmer cable but i don't know where to connect. Everything is working ok, speakers, camera, subwoofer, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls by metra axxess, but when i turn on the lights, the screen still very shiny, and it supose that it have not to be that way. Can you help me? Thanks.
