I've owned so many cars and the only trouble with Ford/Mercury is that there is a lot of variation between parts on the same platforms. Otherwise, nice cars☮

I have to agree with you 💯 I’m seeing so many differences in options and sometimes even parts like this

That honey comb thing in the intake is a carbon trap, I’m really surprised to see one on that old of a car they are getting popular now days for emissions

Thanks for clearing up! That’s what I read about it but it’s so interesting to see it on a police car…to me it looks restrictive

I have a 2002 town car. My current air box flows thru the bottom but I was wondering what I would have to do to run the upgraded filter box since it draws air from behind the headlight like all the newer style ones

Nice review. That metal piece looks like it would restrict air flow… the filter would block debris from getting in there in the first place… maybe in a cold environment that could potentially warm the air before getting to the engine… I’ll have to go check my 2006 Merc and 2011 P71.

I have always removed the snorkel on the crown vics. Makes a huge difference in sound.

If you go to my page the crown vic video is of a 2008 with no snorkel and a K&N air filter. Everything else is stock. You can hear the difference in sound. RU-vid won't let me post the link but its on my page if you check.

Hey Bart, I agree! It looks like a honeycomb I hope someone can identify what’s its real purpose and why a police interceptor would have that!

Is there anything to be gained from doing the airbox mod, other than a more aggressive sound?
@LoveWhatYouDrive
@LoveWhatYouDrive 2 месяца назад
Technically the zip-tubes are identical besides the extra sound baffles or whatever they called. The air box itself is slightly bigger and the snorkel is much bigger as also the snorkel hole on the box. Push come to shove may not be a huge difference in numbers or speed but the sound is amazing. Also what I noticed made a big difference is changing out the fuel filter if yours is old, taking off the throttle body and plenum and cleaning all the carbon build up, new plugs that are gapped the correct gap and marvel mystery oil in the gas tank (4oz) per tank. And a k&n drop in filter won’t hurt!
@bambamkey1
@bambamkey1 2 месяца назад
@LoveWhatYouDrive Was there at least reduced hesitation when you floor it?
@LoveWhatYouDrive
@LoveWhatYouDrive 2 месяца назад
Everyone recommended me to get a P 71 airbox and zip tube drop in a K&N filter and you’re good to go, ADTR.net sells a pipe that you could also buy, but I can’t justify the price they want for a piece of tube, nothing against ADTR. I do recommend putting that in if you could also get a tune, but again that’s like $600. I’m 100% for it the bigger air box and snorkel second more air makes sense to go faster or have more power.

What does anybody know about the airbox setup on a 2005 MGM LSE? I picked one up in great shape with just over 90,000 km. Runs great I was looking at the airbox and maybe a Marti-tune to improve performance and the throttle response and soft shifting.

Sounds like a good start to simple and effective mods

@@LoveWhatYouDrive Did you notice anything from the airbox mod you did other than a more aggressive sound? I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my 2004 CV.

Mine resembles the one of the far right at the start but I cut around the bottom channel that has the intake snorkel to around the round bottom of it forming a u shape, with a k&n filter it sounds like a full v8 vs a supercharged and whiny motor, also lowered intake temps by 6f

A tune like Marty’s can smooth out running rough, but you will still have a cel. You need to get your mgm programmed to run with a bigger intake to “trick” it into accepting it as normal and the way it should be. And obviously no cel. Nick up in long branch can take care of you.
