Nissan notoriously designs their cars to have no room to access anything. Literally. They crammed everything together so closely that you will be either too afraid or too inconvenienced to fool with disconnecting stuff. Or you'll have to see the dealer to drop the tranny or lift the engine block ... seriously! And from thence forward the price of getting work done multiplied 10 fold. ---------------------------------------------------- I had to replace both headlamps to pass state inspection for cloudy lenses. The mechanic wanted 700.00 to replace 2 headlamps!!. I'm like, what am I buying a pedigree? He said, "well it's a 2-MAN job and requires putting the car on the lift." ( "requires" putting the car on the lift for headlights? ) ( "2-man" ... seriously ??? ) ( perhaps he knows about horsepower, but he didn't know about GIRL POWER! ) Of course I'm thinking they come out the back. Lift the hood, pull off the air hoses off, and a couple of bolts. After a RU-vid visit to confirm ... I found they come out the front and I had pull the bumper. Unexpdcted but No biggie. I've worked on C130 airplanes, so a car bumper is nothing. So, yeah ... 1 quick video, 4 button snaps, and 6 bolts later, I dropped the bumper ... all by my (girl) self. and replaced the lamps for $80. (And I needed to redo my manicure) $80 VS $700
To to remove Passenger side just simply pull radiator reservoir tank out by removing two bolts and pull on washing fluid reservoir neck and it will come out. Turn headlight Cover counterclockwise clockwise..
This is the best description on why not to buy a Nissan Altima. I can imagine the rest of the car isn't designed to work on either. I've changed water pumps, starters, done brakes etc. SO..First of all, the kids car passenger headlight was out. filler tube and tank out (no problem) that dust cap was the first problem. I had to smack a screw driver against those plastic ears, back and forth, back and forth before it finally let loose. there's hardly enough room for a light and one hand. Second problem, those wires were glued on with moisture and corrosion. There was no wiggling them lose (10 minutes of wiggling) (back to the garage) 10"long pair of needle nose plyers finally did the trick. Back in it goes (ha) Figuring out that stupid wire and for the grand finale...holding that grounding plate and fiddling with that, while steadying the light and fiddly wire. While positioning the ground plate the wire fell back down and before it was over the ground plate came off, spun around the kinky wire and disappeared. 15 minutes with a bright light searching anywhere it could possibly be over and over and Over. I'm convinced it dropped into the windshield tank. Now I'm searching for a replacement on ebay. I'm convinced a monkey could design a way better way. I've had 6 vehicles and changed 10-15 headlights and that is the stupidist contraption way to power a headlight of all of them.
Brother, excellent how to video. Took it to a shop and they said they would have to take the bumper off or see how they could get to it. They obviously didn’t know how and said it would cost $120. And up. The video was so precise. Thank you and I’m sure I’ll be visiting your site again.👍🏽
FYI. There is no need to remove the air intake box. Simply removing the air filter box is more than enough, and removing the other will not buy you any more space. There is a big risk of breaking the button clamps by removing them, especially if they are not the same as the ones in the video. Mine were not, and I broke one. Not a big deal. Great video with really good explanation, though!
Dear Dave, just successfully changed the bulb. I brought your video beside me, watching every step you shown me, then I followed it step by step. DONE! Thank you so much again.
This one saved me money and was really helpful. I need you to make more videos because I have no clue what im doing and I dont really want to spend hundreds on a mechanic. 🙃
thanks dave this saved me a few bucks! shops quoted me $60 to $120 to fix. did the passenger side headlight and it was even easier than this! ~$20 for the light and I just had to move the coolant tank to get to the headlight. took me 10 mins!
I watch a lot of car repair videos and this was one of the best with the descriptions and the camera angles. Most of the videographers have a hard time creating good shots as they are talking and removing things. Nice work.
Best easy way to change bulb. Other vids saying take off bumper are BS.. Right side on wife's car was out - did it today per this video in less than 15 minutes !! went ahead and bought 2 bulbs and swapped out other side in less than 10 mins !! saved $$$$
You rock! This is one of the best fix-it videos I've ever seen done, and I consult RU-vid for help a lot! Thanks so very much for your thoughtful help. Providing the labels just blew my mind-- I've never seen anybody give such care to helping viewers see and understand directions. I'm going to change my bulb tomorrow!
OMG! THANK YOU For this detailed visual of the positive/neg wires. I'm having connectivity issues and it feels like the clip is not holding the bulb/plate still.
Great Video! I watch a lot of how-to auto videos and from a detail steps stand point, your spot on. Too many people skilled in repairs skip simple steps in videos that help people who do not always know the in between steps.
Wow... Nissan Dave, I don't know if you are still out there making videos, but I, for one am extremely thankful for all the hard work you put into making this video. You DEFINITELY earned a subscription from me. As they say - not all heroes wear capes.
Now I can go from a cry baby to earning your respect. L o l. Great video. Dave you a very thorough. I have watched others on this same applocation. And they just don't show how the clip goes. In this video you can see it all very clearly and it's easy to understand. Thank you again Dave you're the best !
Wow, thank you so much for showing this how it's done properly. Step by step and labels makes it easier to understand. Thank you for making look it easy. Have a wonderful day.
Thank you so much!! awesome video. Super clear! the lighting is great!! I can see every little thing you are doing. You show every single step. Great video I love it!!! thank you again for taking the time to share your skills.
So my headlight was not working. I was given quote of $75. I said what the hell ! I saw this video and took me less than 30 min. Awesome video. Great explanation. Yeah No More cry baby !!! Thank you , Sir.
Thanks I'm a woman and your video was great step by step. I think I can do this. Thanks so much. Now I can get rid of this lazy ass man I got. 😂. Fix my own shit😘🤣🤣🤣🤣🎯 thank you!!!
so is the hi bean bulb have a totally different connector??? i have 2 i just got that have just one pin conncter...totally different from your setup for your low beam...thanks..
I did itttttt!!!!! I'm such a girl, but I did it by myself. The one that was out was actually on the passenger side. Whew, gotta figure that out now. Thanks!
After unclipping the bulb, but before removing it, get a feeling on how all fits together by clipping and unclipping it a few times before the bulb actually moves. Especially if access is not easy, like I found on the passenger side bulb. FYI: I liked your signs.

Thank you!!! It really helped me change the headlights God bless you and your channel
Robot quentin i agree he made that much more complicated theres no need to take really any of that out. I did it by popping the hood and carefully wiggling the head light out the front to get to the bulb. Its so much easier that way. Also very important to use gloves because if you get your fingers all over the bulb the oil from your skin will end up shorting the life of the bulb drastically probably to about a month if your lucky!!
You ca n do all this for whatever God forsaken reason lol, or you could just pop out the headlight represent the bulb and put it back in. This video is genius lol 😂😂😂😂
Wow great instructions. With the tags even a senile person wearing baseball mitt on both hands could complete this task. Why not remove transmission or start at back remove muffler and the entire exhaust no tools just body weight hanging swinging on it until separates from hangers, working slowly to the front of car, arriving at the headlight assembly LOFL
So I watched this looking for another video and then realized you were removing a lot of stuff to replace that bulb, you literally can just take out the 2 10mm bolts that holds the headlight in place and it pulls right out, literally a 30 second job, food for thought
There's a hidden bolt on the bottom of the headlight assy. Accessible under the wheel well. Thomas' Altima probably is missing it as some owners won't bother putting it back in.
The pop up fasteners on mine have a Phillips head top on them any suggestion on how to remove them. 2 of them I got off by prying them up and then being able to loosen the screw but the other 2 I have stripped the head. cheep plastic and vegas heat don't work well together.
Hi Deanna - In my video there are only 4 fasteners involved in the removal of the air intake box. There are no screws. It's possible the fasteners were damaged in the past and replaced with screws. Take caution removing any other parts besides the fasteners. If any of these break on removal, you can go to your local dealer to replace them back to factory fasteners. I'd suggest always using genuine Nissan parts.
Question. I just drove my car and the new bulb seems to concentrate the light higher than the old. When I pull into my apartment the center of the light is a couple of feet higher on the wall. Could I have accidentally installed it at an angle or could it simply be because I used a different brand bulb?
