0:22 4 speed? It's actually a five speed. The 5 speed automatic replaced the 4 speed in 2004 for the 2005 model year.
@ImperatorCaesar22

They were making them with 5 speeds before that. My 2003 v8 is a 5 speed

I had a 08 Tacoma that had 350,000 miles on it and it ran perfect. That v6 and the 5 speed automatic are fantastic.

The main difference between the V6 and the V8 is that the V8 uses a drive belt that needs to be replaced every 90,000 miles or so. The V6 uses a drive chain, which in my 4Runner hasn't been replaced in 250,000 miles!
@m87orion
@m87orion 7 месяцев назад
The belt thing is NOT that big of deal. Way worth it for the smoothness, pulling power and all out sound of the V8. Another thing is the V6 in the first couple years had head gasket issues. 🤷‍♂️To each their own.
@twistedwacko
@twistedwacko 7 месяцев назад
@m87orion odd my 2005 has never had any head gasket problems, yet I'll bet the head gasket replacement is substantially cheaper than a $1500 to $2000 rubber belt replacement, which is for a 250,000 mile vehicle is another $6,000 of maintenance costs! And my V6 is quite smooth and gets me 22-24 MPG at 80-85 mph.
@m87orion
@m87orion 7 месяцев назад
@@twistedwacko Yeah I knew two people that had a 2003 and the other a 2004. Both had the head gasket issue. So I used that lol. And I sing the V8 praises because it's "mine". But a 4runner is a 4runner and hope you enjoying yours like I do mine. 🤙BTW the V8 with the VVT always develops a leaky exhaust like mine has. So yes, there are things better in yours the more I think about it.

Love the review. Very interesting to have so many storage compartments in the cargo area compared to 5th gen 4Runner. I love the V6 for more fuel range and 2H option with a center diff for 4wd modes. I'm a fan of not having timing belt also. I was surprised this to have 5 speed automatic, When I saw 4-D I was expecting to have 5 speed.

Great review as always zack this vehicle is very pricey I almost bought a 15 one but they ask me an arm and a leg for the truck 😅 then I ended with a rav4 very happy so far

Speaker on the door? I guess I never contemplated it, but my Toyota now has speakers on the dash.. I always think of speakers being in the doors. My first car put them there. I find it interesting when the speakers are on the dash lol

I wonder why you'd need a third row in something this size, especially when there's the Sequioa and in particular, the Sienna, both of which will give you better third row space than this.
@doug6191
@doug6191 7 месяцев назад
I never liked that Toyota gradually moved this toward a family vehicle. By the time this got a 3rd row, the Highlander was available, as well as the Sequoia you mentioned. There was no need to shove a 3rd row in this. Added weight wasn't needed.
@damilolaakanni
@damilolaakanni 7 месяцев назад
@doug6191 the Highlander's third row was also too small, considering it was slightly smaller than the 4runner. Later, even the 3rd generation RAV4 got an optional third row.

I've been driving my 2008 4Runner for 15 years with no problems at all. Everything still looks and works like new, with normal dealer servicing all I have had to do is get new tires, everything else is original. It looks like it should go for another 15 years.

These old Toyota's including trucks were very well built - you could say overbuilt meaning they last a very long time. Toyota had good quality in the early 2000s

They're reliable and all that, but paying 20k for something like this with low miles is just embarrassing. Remember, people, it's only as reliable as the previous owner, and sitting (for a car) is BAD.

The Rust Belt kills most cars. As long as the frame is not Swiss cheese. Then it will safely last a long time.

The only thing that can kill these is rust. Even with the miles, the owner can probably sell this for what he paid for it. People want a simple, capable, reliable truck. The Xterra is overlooked and can be picked up for cheap without paying the Toyota Tax. It's as capable as a 4Runner and the only weak point is the radiator on the 4.0 V6 leaking coolant into the transmission cooler. With that fixed, it's simple and reliable too.

I shouldn’t have sold my 2005 V6. It had 140k on it, it would still be going now for free. I will say, the 4.7L V8 only had issues with oil leaks, but that cast iron block is basically indestructible. The V6s are incredible but the V8 could probably go to 800k miles
