Walkthrough video on how to replace the inverter pump if you have a bad pump. Some people have had the AM2 fuse blow because the inverter pump seizes. The pump keeps pulling electricity ultimately blowing the AM2 fuse.
Our daughter’s 2006 Prius just died while she was driving. All engine power dies with the AM2 fuse however there is still power to the dash and some features but the car dies.
We had it towed to a Toyota dealership. 169.00 for an hour of diagnostics and they can’t figure it out. I looked on RU-vid and the first AM2 fuse video said likely the inverter pump……some other issues could cause this but likely the inverter pump AM2.
Wasted 169 at the dealer. Towed the car home. Paid 70 dollars online for an inverter pump. Put it in myself. Pretty easy to do yourself. Save yourself so much money.
This simply a walkthrough. I just replaced the pump and figured this description would help while it was fresh in my mind. Next time I will video the actual removal and install.

If you ever have to do this repair again I found it fairly easy to pull the bumper away on the driver side then remove the headlight and you have all the access you could ever need.

That’s is interesting. I’m going to have to look into to that. Another good idea for a video.

Is it just normal antifreeze you put in it?

I used regular antifreeze. Toyota sells one that is pink and called inter cooler and from what I see it’s just more expensive because it’s from Toyota.

@@KenHartman what a morning.. turned my car on and went to take care of the dogs came back and car wouldn’t do anything. Did you notice any electric burning smells?

@@rexwillis4868 yes there was an electric burning odor. Check the AM 2 fuse to see if it is blown. Likely you have similar issue. There could be something else wrong but I would start with the AM2 fuse and intercooler coolant pump. If you put the new fuse in and sit in car hit start button. If car starts momentarily then dies within only a few seconds and the fuse blows again -your coolant pump might be seized like mine was.

@@KenHartman yea i believe this is exactly what’s going on I put the spare fuse it and it seemed to blow pretty instantly.

@@rexwillis4868 sounds like it. That pump seizes and pulls too much power then poof the fuse blows.
