The final 10 laps of the 2006 UAW Ford 500, from the final restart to the checker flag falling. Not the most thrilling finish by any means, but easily one of the most controversial until the 2008 Fall finish
@@Gordontrek hey I actually like tandom drafting from 2011 to 2012. It gave a new interesting style to dega and Daytona and also gave a chance for the back cars to win a race
Eh the current cars still sound pretty well, the gen 4 sounded great, no doubt about it. The plate sound of those cars was but iconic. but I feel like people throw a bit too much praise to it and give too much shade on the sound of the current ones.
@@danielrivera2105 nah, the praise is well deserved. That sound is literally the reason i looked forward to EVERY plate race up until 2008 when the cot came out. (well, technically the fall '07 race, but you know what i mean). The sound was everything. I still go back periodically and watch the old qualifying sessions from '96 to '07 at all the plate tracks JUST to hear the high pitch whine. The current ones are decent.. but c'mon. Its not even really close at all...
8:28 It's amazing 12 years later I can still remember the rage that ensued following that moment. Not to mention the voicemails that were left on Dave Despain's Windtunnel tv show.
+Freshh LK Gives me goosebumps because I grew up with that noise whenever they headed to Daytona and Talladega. Really not a big fan of them going single file along the wall the final 10 laps though, and they don't make a move until the final lap. Only reason why the racing on Sunday was insane was because A.) Junior wrecked out and killed Amelia and B.) Rain could have hit at anytime as soon as they crossed the cross flags with 94 laps completed. Rain was I think 10-20 miles away when Keselowski took the checkered-flag to complete lap 188. Also miss the NASCAR on NBC/TNT theme music used from 2004-2006.
If you play it frame by frame, you can even see it hit and stick to the very bottom of his front bumper for a split second before blowing under his car lol. truly 10/10 aim
I 100% agree Alan was the voice of Nascar for a long time , and with Benny these 2 called the best I've ever heard I. Over 45 years of watching Nascar.I haven't watched a race in 2 years its a com.ercial fest now not worth watching.
Oh yeah, I miss that noise. The only reason it changed was because before 2007 they used dual exhaust pipes that came out both sides. After the COT and still today they decided to just have the exhaust come out the right side and not both. The tone also comes from the fact they only got up to 7500 RPM's with the plates, while today they are doing 8500-8800 all the way around on the plates (plus tapered spacer comes into play).
-cant win the championship -teammate is competing for the championship infront of him -teammate is also one of the best racers on the track at the moment t -guy hes competing with is the most popular driver in Nascar at the moment, literally everyone loves him. Also one of the best racers at the moment -both in a close points battle and his teammate needs this w - *wrecks them both to win the race* Vickers is a madlad. Guy just flipped off his employer, team, drivers, teammate, fans, officials, and pretty much the entire sport just to win a race
And made a bunch or excuses as to why he did what he did, when everybody obviously knows that he wrecked him, just to get his first win, that otherwise he could not get
MikeJunior24K ?? How so? These look better than the c.o.t. version, but thank God GM told NASCAR if we don't change these cars, we're out. The front of the SS now camaro/fusion/camrycrap look close to the real thing.
DRT71 Because it doesn’t have a splitter, the tires fill out the wheel wells because they aren’t sucked to the ground, you can see the cars suspension working instead of bouncing like they are on struts/solid suspension. They look more balanced with more over hang in front of the front wheels. They aren’t skewed to the inside because the bodies are square instead on the right side being flat to hang the spoiler out in the air. Also the rear bumpers and quarter panels aren’t almost dragging the ground here either!!!
I remember it too. We was in the stands on the backstretch, talk about tore up I’d say 3/4 of the fans there was Budweiser no. 8 including us. I never seen so many pissed off people
What tv really looked like back in the day. Everyone thinks it looked like complete trash even though it wasn’t bad. It was way clearer then it looks on RU-vid. Even the 90 races were way clearer you could actually see the ticker and read the names and it not be complete shit. Box TVs weren’t always that bad. For some reason RU-vid and the TV channels now make it look like trash even though it wasn’t horrible it was very watchable.
RU-vid frequently compresses their videos, not to mention that the recording technology the average Joe had back in the day wasn't always recording in the best quality
+Colby Lindberg No offense to you, but kinda like seeing Junior lose. He kinda inherited his fans instead of earning them, and I've always held it against him.
Brian got payback for Hendricks' telling him he was gone at year end. He took their Golden boy out and won the race as NASCAR threw the caution early. If they allowed it to race to the line, Kahne wins the race.
@James Horan That's pretty doubtful, if you look closely and actually watch, it looks like he is trying to move down WITH Jimmie and push him, he wasn't clear and hooked him.
Seems like the single file issue at Talladega has been an on and off issue since the repave. That and it seems like no one wants to make the move with the possibility of losing positions.
+SUPEREEVEEMASTER Yep. I'm still pretty darned amazed when people complain about the recent series of dull single-file finishes at Tally in the last few years. It isn't usually an issue of drivers unwilling to move though, as much as it is that a line just can't form. It's been even more evident since 2012, since the tandem drafting was forcibly removed without consideration of general aerodynamics and drag.
Falling Pictures Productions If you take away the last 20-30 laps of the 2015 Spring Talladega I think the current plate package that was implemented at the beginning of 2014 has been good. As someone who started watching in 2007 but has seen several older races I wish we could use something similar to when the cars had a wickerbill on the roof along with the other minor changes back in late 2000 and 2001. Not only was it easier to pass but you didn't always need the help of ten cars behind you to get to the front. You'll rarely see a parade but that's just my opinion.
Falling Pictures Productions Tandem drafting was NOT forcibly removed from the Cup series! They can still tandem if they want (Ragan/Gilliland at Talladega in 2013 for example). It’s just harder with the gen6. But it’s ONLY banned in Xfinity and Trucks
@@SUPEREEVEEMASTER the single file at the top only happens when the lead car is that much stronger than the field. Like this race and the 2015 spring race in particular, jr was by far the class of the field so the other cars had to follow because they couldn't do anything with him
@@jimabbad9663 Nah, Junior cut a tire down and went a lap down at one point in this race and they were still running single file all the way around the track.
The only difference between this finish and the 2021 Daytona 500 is that there weren't anymore cars involved in the 2006 Uaw Ford 500 unlike in the 2021 Daytona 500
Junior and Johnson would become teammates in a year and a half with the 25 becoming the 88! This was the only time in Junior's career at Talladega that he led at the white flag but failed to win. He led at the white flag 7 times at Talladega, and came back around and won. (His four-consecutive, Fall 2004, and Spring 2015).
I haven't really followed that statistic. He still has it and he can run his JR Motorsports and run part-time in the cup series. He led over 100 laps at Richmond and won a stage race this season in the Xfinity Series with nearly one year out of the car. I honestly think that he has the resources and the talent to pull a Mark Martin. He has a daughter to impress and build the memories like he did with Dale Sr when he was a kid. I'm looking at him as what his dad would do if he was in retirement. I doubt that we will never see Dale Sr stay in retirement if he was still living.
Fans don't like Vickers' move, but if it were the exact same scenario only Dale Jr was the one who took out the 2 leaders, the fans would say "it's just a product of racing, he did nothing wrong"
Based on earlier in the year you actually be wrong. In the Busch race at Michigan in 2006 Jr wrecked Carl Edwards for the win and when he exited the car in victory lane he was met with boos from the crowd.
This was a controversial finish. I can see why the fans threw trash on Brian Vickers’ car now. But that is not what you should do to a driver with a disease.
I remember watching this race when I was a kid, and I thought for sure Dale Jr had it in the bag. Needless to say, I wasn’t to happy when that crash happened.
Vickers was and still is unbelievably underrated. Won the 2003 secondary series title, only to be given the dreaded #25 car in Cup, (which was always considered to be the worst car at Hendrick no matter who drove it.)
won that title in 2003 as a 19 yr old no less. That was a great Championship battle for the 2003 Busch Series Championship, as 5 drivers had a chance to win the title at the Championship race at Homestead. And it was still full season points earned in every race points system back then.
@@DupontandLowesWarrior Wow this first comment was old Anyways, yes the 25 was good equipment way back then. But it sucked since the mid 90’s. Vickers wasn’t bad. Look what he did in that Red Bull in 2009 before his health issues
Looking back Vickers sucked in 2006 at Talladega. He effed up a potential 1-2 for him and Kyle Busch in the Busch race that year. Then he effed up a 1-2-3 the next day for he Jimmie and Jeff. Then he screwed up in this race as well.
God that Mopar car was fucking gorgeous! Still pissed I could never find the die cast of it.. At least I got his Mountain Dew and Early Dodge schemes..
I was there! My gf at the time was a huge Jr. fan and after this race, was very interested in seeing what Brian Vickers head would look like on a stick 😂
I remember watching this live and the cameras having to cut off immediately when he entered victory circle. Everyone was chanting “BULLSHIT!” at the top of their lunges.
I'm still convinced Brian purposely hooked Jimmie, but didn't intend to take Dale out. Dale just collected in Jimmie's crash. Dale, Jr's response post race was pure class that Brian got just a little bit too excited and moved early. Brian was getting kicked off Hendricks at year end, blamed Johnson and wanted payback.
@@shilpi326 It was only like that during this race because this was the first race after they re-paved the track. This race was still pretty exciting because at one point Junior cut a tire down and went a lap down and he somehow made it back to the front despite them running single file.
This happened on my sixth birthday, and I remember everything about the time that Vickers won the race with Jr. and Johnson wrecked, and I was a Jimmie Johnson fan that was stunned by the outcome of the race.
I might've been the only person to like the result of this race. I was 7 at the time, My Dad asked me who he should take in his pool and I said to take Vickers cause I felt bad that he wasn't going to be in the 25 in just a few races. The rest is history!
As much as I enjoy this NASCAR racing, everyone in the comments please respect today’s racing. It’s actually good too when it comes to superspeedway racing.
Such a wild finish! The NASCAR today is garbage, the cars are garbage! The sport is nothing like how it was in the late 1990s & early 2000s. NASCAR has become Formula one!
Vickers got payback to Johnson for wanting off the Hendricks teak. He hooked Johnson but took out Junior also. Kasey Kahne won that race. He beat Vickers to the line. If I were Junior, I would have been pissed with the Hendrick boys wrecking him on the last lap.
Why? It was a racing incident.. Johnson went to pass, and Vickers moved to follow too soon. Hooked Johnson, typical Dega wreck. Its happend before, will probably happen again..
You wanna know how big of an impact this had on me. I'm 24 I watched this race when I was 7 I still hate Brian Vickers to this day. Jr was my and still probably is my favorite racer. I saw this and I cracked the windshield of my Brian Vickers die-cast car I think I might have smashed the hood too. This race made me so angry.
I remember this race as though it were yesterday--Man was I pulling for JR.! Vickers was way too green to be racing with JR & JJ in a Cup Points related Race. There's nothing like restrictor-plate races--nothing close!
