Thank you Dr Shock. I followed your instructions and replaced the left speaker and now all the clicks and beeps are back and the radio and CDs sound better. The speaker is out of stock from GM but I found it at Amazon. The hardest step was replacing the C clip back on the window crank. Trying to keep the little car going as long as I can!

Bought the parts from the links and followed the vid, I can finally hear my blinkers again! Can't wait to work on the next project! Thanks so much!

MY 09 COLBALT LT chime, turn signals, and front speakers work only in warm weather. Its been in the 80's and everything works, and sounds great. Its super weird, if its like 60 degrees out, turn signals work but no front speakers, no chime no turn signal sound.

This is most likely due to a poor electrical connection specific to the radio itself (either internally on the radio circuit board due to a solder joint having cracked or the wiring harness connections in the back). Metal expands when warmed up (making tighter connection contact), and contracts when cooled off (thus creating a connection gap). You may get lucky with just the wiring harness, remove the dash trim for access and clean and reseat all the wiring harness connectors in the back. If that does not address it, I'd replace the radio. One other more remote possibility is the same issue with the radio fuse, if the radio lights up when this problem happens that would not apply though.

Good job DrShock 👍. Question will this be the same or different on my vehicle 1996 GMC Yukon ?Has this happened to your trucks ?

Thanks. This whole procedure and speaker part number is unique to the discontinued A-body models like the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac Pursuit, and Pontiac G5. Many other GM cars, and trucks, use the front left speaker to pipe out system sounds approach, but none from the 1990s afaik. I believe this approach started when the CAN bus rolled out so probably around 2003. Your 1996 should have a sound module plugged in behind the emergency brake. Black module about 2 x 2 inches that plugs into the junction box in that area - I went over that module in this vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qO3OSlguKyQ.html

@@DrShock Thanks for the reply. I’ll definitely check that module and circuit. 🙏👍

Alright so both of my front speakers aren't working. Does the left speaker only need replaced for both of them to work or do i need to replace both of them?

Just the drivers side for the system sounds, obviously both if you want your tunes to sound right ;-)

Does the speaker has to be OEM or can be a aftermarket speaker door?
@DrShock

It does not _have_ to be an OEM speaker, but when going aftermarket you have to be more careful for correct fitment for the Cobalt/G5 to get one that will fit the mounting bracket in the door correctly and include the correct electrical connector plug.

I have a 2005 cobalt and my driver side speaker is working but not the passenger side and i have the same issue as sometimes the sound will come on for turn signals and door ajar but mostly off . Changed battery should i change fuses? Or change passenger speaker?
@DrShock

You should debug the issues to the actual root cause, it's cheaper that way than firing a parts cannon. ;-) You're describing an _intermittent_ issue, so it would be very unlikely to have anything to do with the battery or fuses. It's more likely the speaker(s) or the wiring harness between them and the radio. The system sounds, like for the turn signals, come thru the drivers side speaker not the passenger one. You can use the simple radio test I showed in this vid to determine if one, or both, speakers are reliably working. Sometimes you have to perform this test while the vehicle is in motion as some speakers will still work fine when idle/still but a little vibration and they cut out. If the problem is still elusive to recreate, or continues to be intermittent, then you'll have to remove the door trim and inspect the wiring harness and connector to the speaker.

What if the radio also went out and I can’t check that way.

My speakers work but the turn signal doesn’t make sound. Even with being able to hear my music , does this mean I need to change the speakers ? I purchased the car as is.

The system sounds on the Cobalt and G5 only work with a GM radio. Is the radio original and not aftermarket?

If I buy the speaker for the passenger side would it be the same ?

Same speaker GM part number (in the description btw) is used for either side door.

Some of the worst factory speakers ever made for a car. Pure junk. This problem with cobalts/pursuits should've been a factory recall on them. Absolutely terrible.
