Just found your channel - in between laughing out loud with the comments - definitely learned a bunch. 2009 Jeep Compass - P2004 code.....replaced the IMRC yesterday - engine light is still on...I need to take somewhere and clear the codes. May have to do the whole thing. Getting ready to buy a new car and just didn't want to have the 'check engine' light on when I try to trade this in for like a dollar....maybe $5 if I'm lucky! ;) Appreciate the video - very clear to follow - thank you!

Got the same dreaded P2004 code on my Compass. Fortunately it is covered by warranty, so it's the dealer's problem to change the cheesy, goofy thing out. At least I know what to look for when they repair it - because they will probably forget to reconnect a harness or clamp. Great video! Thanks

I have recently come across your channel and I greatly appreciate your content. Your attention to the details (e.g. comment on the type and location of each ‘child-proof’ connector and what a righteous PITA they can be) is very useful. It is always the little things that no service manual ever warns you about that seem to make a job turn into a cluster !$&@! from hell. Your ongoing commentary has proven to be absolutely lifesaving to me. And I particularly enjoy the delightfully subtitle way that you wrap up your video sessions. Simple and straight to the point! I had to have this repair done on my 2016 Patriot, local mechanics that I frequent gave me a quote of $1k all in (Massachusetts), part was on back order 4 weeks, finally gets repaired, they charge me $1500., claim repair should have been 3 hours labor, but due to dirt rust, 6 of the intake bolts were rusted and broke on them, claim it was nightmare repair job, took total 9 hours. (I had watched this video prior to my repair being done.). I said 9 hours to repair?, I told them I found that hard to believe, that they lost a customer. I’ve only owned vehicle for a couple months. Though I like the vehicle, think I should probably sell.

I get to do one of these in a couple of days time. Although it don't have the runner controller issue, just a slow accumulation vacuum leak, randomly puts the car into limp mode. I Sprayed some brake cleaner along the intake gasket line and she started to run like a bucket. Fingers crossed its just a hardened gasket and not a crack in the manifold.

If you have a scan tool, you will see your short tem fuel trim go negative when you spray flammables in the area of the leak. That way you can pinpoint where it is leaking from.

It might have been broken, but I have had at least a dozen of these cars in the shop and this problem was usually caused by the ground wire on the right frame rail behind the headlight.

What do you do? Just disconnect the ground wire from the frame, clean and reinstall?
@alexmeldrum8151
@alexmeldrum8151 2 года назад
@@natestapp5573 The clamp on the eye of that ground wraps around the wire casing, so it all looks good at first glance.. The problem is the wire itself corrodes inside the casing, and is not touching the eye. The only way to fix it is disconnect, strip the wire back to a clean spot and put on a new eye connector. If you have to, separate the wires and use a few connectors instead of one. You might even need to add some extra wire just to reach the ground point. I've seen some of those grounds corrode 2 inches up. It's a really crappy design.

@@alexmeldrum8151 thank you so much....I wish I could post a picture here so I could be absolutely sure we're talking about the same ground..... I had the same issue. It turned out to be a bad ground. it is ground 110 on passenger side of engine compartment under the overflow tank. Used Deoxit on the ground after I loosened the nut on the ground stud. Have hqd no issues since. Went a head and did all the ground connectors. They were all a green snot mess of corrosion. After two control solenoids and a manifold, turned out it was just a bad ground issue

@Rust Belt Auto. Great video, glad I watched it. Hey my 2010 Patriot was popping out of ''Drive'' all the time. When you pulled the ''Air Box'' off, the transmission Shifter Cable can be adjusted right there at the trans end of the cable. The hole is elongated for adjustments. I adjusted mine out about 1/4 inch. I was ready to spend $100 on a new one too. But a guy read one of my RU-vid comments and told me about the adjustment. Now a question I do have is the 4WD! warning light comes on every time after the vehicle is started and drives over 1 mile. Have you ever heard of this before. Been looking for the fix but there's nothing on RU-vid about it, other than the 2 most likely wiring issues which have been checked out.

I have the avenger with this engine, I been having issues intake related, a p2016 code, and cam and crank sensor codes, and vvt codes it is intermittent, I saw where a guy had ground issues, causing problems, he was having a problem with tracing the ground, so he just added another, and want a wire to a good ground location, I had a guy firing the parts cannon at a Escalade, replacing everything without checking anything, all it was was a ground wire that was cut, and poorly repaired, someone ran a ground wire to the bad connection somewhat fixing it, but it would act up during rainy weather, and hitting bumps, he removed the wire , the girl drives to the store and is stuck there, because of his stupidity! He was about to put another throttle body on it, and already put a throttle pedal on it, I look at it, looking at the connections and wiring and after 10 minutes, I fixed the whole problem, after he replaced all those parts, even the gauge cluster, and who knows he would probably said it needed a engine before it was over!! You always check things out before reaching anything, imagine what he would done if he didn't have a scanner to tell him what to look at, great work, I was curious about how these intakes worked, mine was acting up the other day, it would not go over 25 mph at full throttle, I think the thing lost power and was stuck in the closed position, who knows, I'm going to check the ground connections, and check things out, it's missing the wheel well liner, so everything in the left front gets wet when it rains it's usually worse then!!

I have a question for you, Truthfully how long did that job take?? I have the Compass and need to change the Battery cables, And it looks like I will half to remove the intake to do so, So just wondering how much time I need to set aside for the job.

It means the actuator is not opening. There is a ground for the thing somewhere, people have issues with sometimes, other than that, I would try to manually open it with a dedicated scan tool, to see if it is working properly. That is the best advice I can give you.

I am getting Error Code P2173. The Lightning Bolt error on the dash, the traction control light and engine lights are on. I thought that it was the throttle body or air leaking from the main hose. I cleaned the throttle body, tightened the clamps on the air intake, cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor, reset the computer and nothing worked. Still high idle, errors on dash, slow speed, jumpy on take off. Someone said it was the manifold gasket. I am not looking forward to taking that off!

is 1200 a crazy amount to be charged to replace the intake manifold he said that the manifold flap is cracked and needs to be replaced, he said he cant find any at auto parts or junkyards since this is a comon problem on jeeps and it had to be ordered from jeep for 800$ and 300 labour plus tax this is pretty steep when junk yard charged 120 for the part, i think he did not look around or just was too lazy and he can make more doing it this way do u agree? or should i look around in the states or on ebay , im from canada by the way
