Audi Q7 3.6 Water Pump Replacement
Beck Arnley 131-2318 Water Pump amzn.to/3FHQXgm
The spline set is from amazon $14 amzn.to/3uXC98g
TORX $10 amzn.to/3uVQFNG
Replacement Beck Arnley 131-2318 Water Pump: amzn.to/2VFkVPk
I had a new squeal sound and noticed coolant leaking under car. Saw it Coming from the Water Pump. The vehicle with 145,000 miles that is normal for the bearings to be shot.
The screw into the tensioner is a good idea and holds the tensioner off the belt for the entire time. It is the proper way to release the belt. I have no idea if a bolt is supposed to always be there but I see new tensioners come with a bolt.
I use Coolant from Advanceauto/Autozone $13 for 1.5L 50:50 mixture with 3 1 Gallon DISTILLAED Water from Walmart 88c each.
3 Pentofrost E with SILICATE, I mistakenly say sulfate.
To catch the spilling Coolant I got 2 cheap flat bins from Walmart $4.50 each. I'll clean them and return them after.
To drain the coolant from the reservoir I used a manual hand pump siphon from harbor freight seen at around 9:37. After the water pump was back in, I filled the reservoir past FILL. then I was messing around squeezing the upper and lower hoses when the car started filling the engine block with the electric water pump. I have no clue what triggered it to do it. I believe 3qts came out of the block.
It was hard to tighten the pulley bolts, I may loctite blue them or find a way to tighten them better later. They were not all that tight initially.
I got the water pump from amazon for around $65.

TORX $10 amzn.to/3uVQFNG
TORX and HEX Set from Harborfreight.
TORX is needed for the hose bolt.
Allen for pulley is 6.
Spline for Pump is 6.
I cleaned the mating surface with a tiny wire wheel brush. but first plugged the hole with a paper towel so I did not spray rust into it.
I may flush the coolant out as I am not really sure about the color of the coolant that was in there already. it should have been G12 or G12++ as the original owner only let Audi touch this car all its life.
This was the easiest water pump I have ever done.
One of the 3 dust cover clips instantly broke off when I touch it, so I can't put it back on as it will probably fly off and either damage a fan or eat the belt. so don't reinstall a dust cover with a broken clip!
If they are cheap I may replace it just because.
After watching the video I noticed the original Water Pump also has the Weep Hole at the top, so I am a bit confused. Dunno if it was leaking right up the bearing and not out the weep hole. Doesn't much matter because the bearing is obviously shot.

Hello, for those that see this video. It’s good. The water pump is great. I just replaced the same one on my 2009 Q7. This what people need to know. There are 2 coolant temp sensors. One in between the engine and the radiator bottom hose on the left. The second is much harder to find. The second is located in the back of the engine. Just follow the first upper hose which leads to the back of the engine.

did you replace them for a reason? generally they have a long life. actually I cant recall one actually being at fault in a modern car. I've replaced them in the past but it was because I didn't fully understand what I was doing and just assumed they were bad without actually proving it by putting them in boiling water monitoring the open temps.

Hey do you know where the coolant temperature sensor is located?

Hi would a bad water pump cause no pressure in the system when I release the coolant tank cap there’s no pressure ? Also I noticed the pipes stay soft when up to temperature.if I stay parked up with the car running the temp gauge goes to 90.but soon as I drive off it drops right down I’ve fitted new thermostat no different

your replacing coolant everyday???? the symptoms you say sounds like you are low on coolant. but coolant doesnt just vanish. it has to go somewhere... is coolant leaking onto the ground???? is there coolant leaking from under the water pump? is the exhaust white smoke????

"I work on my own car, fuck you" Good shit. What happened to people like this in the world. No one wants to fix their own car anymore, and they act like they don't need to. Like it is not a necessary skill, yet they depend on their car everyday to go to work. Fuck the new generation. Overall do you like the Q7? Seems like the 3.6 is not too bad to work on

LOL did I say that?? This model year 2007-2010 as far as I know is rock solid EXCEPT.... one major flaw if you dont stop asap will bite. the rear roof drains will start failing I have a crappy video on i and the front drains will clog. If u dont fix the rear asap you will lose your bose amp and all use of the MMI system. if you dont fix the front u r at a high risk of losing the MMI and well all things electrical. The earlier 2007 3.6 engine had a major flaw of the timing sprocket bolt not being torqued to spec and falling out. that usually happens before 100k. mine is just after they caught the spec was wrong so is fine. The 4.0 v8 I hear has some gasket leak issues that need to be taken care of. presently my car is parked due to an unknown low oil pressure alert that I've put on the back burner to fix. the stupid car has all these crazy systems monitoring everything precisely but the oil pressure check is just a *&^@$ pressure switch. so the car only checks the PSI of the oil when the engine is above 2000rpm. just checks if its switched on. so I test my oil pressure switch as working. bought a new one anyway tested that as working of course didnt fix the problem. connected oil pressure meter to block and do see in fact the oil pressure doesnt exceed 20psi which is bad. but a few times while testing over the weeks it did exceed 50psi. so Im kinda of baffled at the cause of the low oil pressure. I'de drop the pan and inspect the pickup is clogged but the darn front axle is in the way so u cant easily drop it. I'm waiting for it to get hot out so I can stick my snake camera in the drain hole to check it. I've running and driving the car around the block so it stays good. its been parked over a year now. but now my crown vic finally blew its fuel pump at 230k so that's more of a priority. I bought a 2021 sq5 6 months ago so the q7 is farther back on the burner because I want to black out the SQ5's chrome etc lol. Also the Q7's MMI system is presently not working due to the &*^@#$ drain leaks. I caught them just before failure but things were still damaged. So I have to get a wiring diagram or something. the Audi's testing current drains from modules and will shut them down if they are drawing too much current. its a really cool concept. I have a bunch of ECM readers to know what modules are shutdown but that dont tell you where the module is! long enough? LOL... I know the whole MMI system is ok because if you disconnect the battery everything comes online and you can blast the music back to insane levels. the audio system in the car is so nice LOL. so because a battery reset fixes it till next key on, I know its some borderline high current draw spike that the ECM isnt liking.
