When I recorded this there were no videos to fix the P0449 code for 2007 Chevy HHR's so I put this up in case it can help anyone.

very helpful video man! thanks! i ordered the part from o'reilly in store, picked it up the next day for $37 after tax and it only took me 10mins to pop off the old one and snap in the new one without lifting my 2009 HHR! i cleared the fault code and my check engine light hasn't came back on!

Just a note about replacement harness, same problem for me but I noticed that the two prongs on my new square (not oval like old one) receptible lined up with the old prong holes. I was able to slide the old harness in. Not ideal, but it worked (code was cleared). I have the option of getting a new harness later. part was $15 on Amazon). Also pay attention to comment below about taking off the rubber grommet from old part and putting it on new (if it doesn't come with it.

Autozone had one for about $29 but it was accompanied with a note that said "Might also need harness part no. xxxxxx" so I didn't buy it. Went down the street to O'Reilly Auto Parts and paid about $33 for one that contained the adapter harness as described in the video above. 2006 HHR. Only trouble was depressing the two white (or blue) rectangular tabs to release the solenoid from the tube to the gas tank filler neck. Had to use a narrow-jaw channel-lock pliers for that. Solenoid's smaller barrel was cracked, and filled with dust from the dirt/gravel roads we live on. Could have saved the $100 check-out fee at the dealer if only I had looked at the solenoid, would have seen the crack (even without removing it) looking from the rear of the car. Looks like water got into it, froze and cracked it? Thanks so much for doing this video; you're correct, no other one for HHR appears to exist for replacing this solenoid. Many confuse this "vent" solenoid (which vents the system to allow (and filter) outside air to enter the carbon canister to replace the gas vapors heading to the engine) with the "purge" solenoid at the engine which applies intake manifold vacuum to the system to draw the gas vapors from the charcoal canister. Terminology can be confusing.

+R. Char Thanks. Yea I was finding the same issue in my case it was snow that melted and then quickly froze it then cracked it. Sadly I live in farmland USA so there is only Autozone and Napa oh and Bumper to Bumper with out driving a long way. So I buy from Amazon when I can or some of the other online places to save a buck or two.

Nice and straight-forward. Unless I missed it, I didn't see you make a comment about the little rubber boot that is on the old solenoid nipple that goes into the canister (not the top one that attaches to the "flexible" tube going up to the filler neck). Need to pop off that little rubber boot and put it on the new solenoid. If you miss this then that little bottom fitting that you described as being loose will be loose and not seal properly. Just sayin' someone like my brother attempting to do this easy fix wouldn't recognize to do this.
@MidwestMotoRider
@MidwestMotoRider 6 лет назад
I don't believe you missed it, could be why mine was loose and while I did fix the looseness it was probably not the correct way to do it. Good catch on your part. Thanks for pointing that out hope other read this if they attempt the repair.

Oh yes I forgot about that it turns out my wifes car had that issue and it was cheap enough to fix. It is a 2000 Chevy Cavalier.

ime a 42 yr auto mechanic,, most all the time you get an evap code it will be the evap vent valve or rusted gas tank fill tube or sometimes loose gas cap but not often.
@MidwestMotoRider
@MidwestMotoRider 7 лет назад
Yea, I had a few mechanics tell me to check those first so I did this fix got rid of the code however I surely would check the others first on my wifes car it turned out to be the gas cap was bad it was an after market locking one and a cheap one at that I sighed a big relieve when it turned out to be just that as hers was not as easy to get to. :)

+transdetendal I am for putting up any how to video you can. If there are 20+ videos on something I won't put up a new one unless I can add something new to it. Since I got this camera this is the only thing that needed fixing. :)

Will this work on a 2006 Impala 3.9?I replaced mine and the engine code has not changed and the check engine light is still on!?
@MidwestMotoRider
@MidwestMotoRider 8 лет назад
It could be a hose on coming off of that going to the gas filler tube or one of the other hoses one of them may have a crack or rip causing the code. I don't know if they are the same part or not since the impala has a bigger motor.

muy buen video yo tengo el mismo problema pero en los cables del conector uno tiene 12 v pero el otro no tiene negativo
@MidwestMotoRider

Podría ejecutar un negativo de cualquier pieza de metal cerca de comprar, pero no estoy seguro de que eso pueda ayudar.

My hhr throws code for evap solenoid .. My car has no power falls on it's face, Nd I changed the one up by the motor and nothing. It's throws code for a miss too
@MidwestMotoRider
@MidwestMotoRider 6 лет назад
So the miss is either a coil or a injector, I had the miss code in both cases. If you replace the coil or the injectors its best to replace them all if you can as the others won't be far behind. The EVAP by the gas tank is usually the one that goes first and most often. Hope some of this helps.

My brother has the same problem and that large hose goes up by the gas cap but isn't connected to anything. Does yours have anything on the end of that hose up by the filler neck?
@MidwestMotoRider
@MidwestMotoRider 6 лет назад
Yes, it should connect to the back of the filler tube plate the idea is to vent from the outside. Check I bet some place near the gas filler tube is a end it will fit on. Its too dark out right now for me to go look and tell you exactly where it is. G/L

Thanks, O'Reillys always has great pricing unfortunately I would have to drive over an hour away just to get to the nearest one. I hear rumors one is moving close by soon.
