3rd Gen Honda CRV 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 starter replacement removal
the CRV was turning over slow cold weather, the colder the weather, the slower. If it was REALLY cold, it would not turn over at all. It seems like the battery is shot, but that wasn't the issue here, the battery was brand new.

Just removed and replaced it without removing the intake manifold. I have no lift. Just raised it a bit with a jack from the driver side and it took me about 1 hr. I believe this procedure is if you can’t get on your back.

FROM UNDERNEATH: Remove splash shield, remove brkt. in front of starter, remove starter. Rear/top bolt in a tight place. That's it.

Go through the bottom and remove the 2 8mm bolts holding the actual starter together.remove the cylinder half and the normally hard to access 14mm long bolt will be very easy now.on instal put this bolt in the new starter hole install it snug the front 17 mm bolt up then thread the long 14mm in the back.used a quarter inch rachet around the knock sensor on that 14mm didn't even have to remove that.so I took off the splash shield ,manifold support bracket then the starter.maybe two hours tops.got hungry during halftime

Nice video. But I think you need replace Heater Pipe too. My CRV 2007 142 000 k have leaking from that stupid pipe. I was replaced starter Two Years before from bottom, but is a Better Idea to replace from top. If I done that Pipe same time whit Starter, don't have that stupid problem today .. More ease , and you can change Heater Pipe, check Thermostat, maybe replace, and Thermostat Housing Same TIME ... You can see that rusty pipe 19. 02 video..

Thanks so much for making this video - saved me big money and time. I do have one pointer for anyone in my position that is doing this alone - when it comes time to put that bracket on the bottom of the manifold back on, the best way I found (after about an hour of failure peppered with much swearing) was to start the bottom bolt just a few turns before mounting the manifold back in place. Then, go back up top and finagle the bracket onto the stud sticking out from the bottom of the manifold, then start one of the manifold bolts/nuts so everything is where it’s supposed to be. Then tighten the nut onto the stud first - I needed a really long extension to get to it. Then tighten the bottom bolt and you’re done underneath. Also, I was able to get the manifold out without disconnecting the radiator hose or bending the hood prop holder (although I really, really wanted to). It was kind of like playing Tetris in Hell for a minute, but the manifold DOES come out. Thanks again for making this, it was extremely helpful!

Thank you! I did R&R today; the biggest worry was not to bump the throttle plate. Managed to do it without disconnecting coolant lines at throttle body; also instead of removing plenum I just relocated it to get access to the 14 mm starter bolt

This was a great video of the process! I did try to do the swap from below, but from the top is a much more sensible approach. If you have tiny hands, the bottom end might be OK. Thanks for your video Sir.

Nice video , but I just went from the bottom side , removed the bracket and the stater... just try it next time it will work, . The first time I did it the way you did ,too much stuff to remove and gaskets etc. whoever has to do it , try removing it from the bottom you save money, and time. Give it a shot fellows..

Everyone is saying it's easier from the bottom. May be true if you don't have any neck/back issues or work on a lift. I just replaced one from the bottom and watching the video, I'd say it's a tie. But, that coolant pipe will be rusty and you should coat it with some POR or Fluid Film or something to extend it's life.

Mr Farrago Zone.... Just a tip, I live in Florida and have a 2008 crv, and am about to change out the starter. I noticed just above your starter is a pipe I happen to know it carries anti freeze from one side of the engine to the other. I know this because I had to change mine as it had rust pin hole in it and started to leak. My tip is while your in there doing the starter you should change the pipe. Its only $30.00 bucks from Honda.. and is very easy to change. I noticed in your video your pipe is pretty rusted and I would think it will start leaking soon, Sadly you have to go through the same motions as changing the starter, So best do it when changing the starter..... Just my Tip.... Good video......

@farragozone952
@farragozone952 3 года назад
Oh gee, You can certainly do this from the top or bottom. I could probably take the front fenders off and do it from the side too. I wanted to do this from the top since I think its easier and better view to video the entire process. I personally didn't want to video the process from underneath or from the bottom→up. If I do another one, it will be on a lift and I'll video that from underneath and call it "2nd way to skin this cat". LOL Its nice when there's more than 1 way to go about it.-- like if the vehicle were in a mudhole.

@farragozone952
@farragozone952 6 лет назад
The starter has been performing great, we've had colder weather too. The cold weather is when we noticed it turning over the slowest, on occaision not at all. Makes you think the battery is dead, but that's not the case. The starter has been going down hill over the past few months, and finally wouldn't even turn over a few times. This new starter turns over rapidly and the CRV starts really quick.
