This was pretty much the golden age of the Duels era. 61 cars racing for 43 spots, tons of cars with big name sponsors and drivers going home, made everyone that was in the 500 earn it
***** ah guess I miss read it haha but yep I always love watchin the drivers trying to fight their way in, just making the race is like a win for them! I'll be rooting for the 34 as well, along with Ron hornaday in the 30!
You're not wrong, the entry list is indeed 50. However the #87 has withdrawn, and the #44 may withdraw as well if they can't find a backup car. So we may go from 50 on the entry list to 48 by the Duels.
Aw man, the one where James Hylton ALMOST made it. At least he got to have a nice job on the spotlight and having fun, but man, imagine him pulling a Dave Marcis.
Michael Waltrip in the 55 Dale Jr. in the 8 Jeff Burton in the 31 Regan Smith in the 39 Jeff Gordon in the 24 Clint Bowyer in the 07 Jamie McMurray in the 26 What do these drivers have in common? They commentate nascar now in some way, shape or form.
A shame that in the current era, we'll never ever see this again heck NASCAR nowadays is lucky to get a full field at any race not just for the Daytona 500
It's been 5 years and a lot has changed in the sport. Many drivers are with new sponsors/or teams! It's nice to visit memory lane! thanks for uploading this.
Given that there was a 61-car entry, we'll never see that again in the for seeable future! But I think it would be interesting if there was a consolation race, 18 cars would work.
AutoRockinRacing94 yea cause due to the stupid charter system and chase rule stating a driver must run all regular season races to be eligible for the chase
AutoRockinRacing94 yea and the term road course ringer is a less of a thing now due to the chase rule also, no one is willing to give up their seat anymore for a road course ringer anymore cause of that, and now the xfinity and trucks have the chase rule and format in them now
Vincent Giacalone sucks now we'll never see more than 50 entries anymore due to the charter system and the chase rule stating a driver must run all regular season races to be eligible for the chase and with that chase rule no one is willing to give up their seat cause of that, same for road courses
If Tony Stewart hadn’t wrecked out in the 500 he would have swept the weekend his car was so strong! And man those Gen 4 cars from 2004-2007 sounded so freaking amazing
Josh Sweeney pretty much so until JGR in NXS to promote Raw vs SmackDown! a few years after. Generally, it has only been WCW that we've seen in NASCAR.
The charter system killed all the fun. Non charter cars get paid less. NASCAR conveniently hiding the purses means we'll never know what the true disparity is.
I know! The thing that sucked about it, though, was his car failed post-race inspection, and as a result, he had to start 42nd. Ugh. Probably could've won had they let him start 4th.
Came back to finish 10th in the 500. Unbelievable that he scored the most top-10's in a season in the modern era with 30 top-10's in 36 races, with 1 DNF (Coca-Cola 600 crash in the quad-oval with the hard hit with Allmendinger) where he finished 41st. The other five finishes outside the top-10 were 12th at Atlanta (Spring), 27th at Michigan (August), 19th at Bristol (Night), 22nd at Auto Club (Fall), and 11th at Dover (Fall). He scored 21 top-5's, 6 wins (Phoenix-1, Talladega Sweep, Darlington, Pocono-1, and Charlotte-2), 7 poles based on time trials, and started on pole overall 10 times.
Dick Berggren "How disappointed are you. You're a little sad boy aren't you. How depressed are you on a scale from 1-10. Where does this rank on all time bad days that you've had? Surely above losing a pet".
Once nascar started to bring foreign race cars in this case the Toyota into this American sport & on the race track....things started to go down hill of course nascar died with Dale Earnhardt Sr.
If a sport relies on one sole person it isn't much of a sport now is it (Spoken from a huge motorsports fan, not saying NASCAR and racing isn't a sport, just saying your comment makes 0 sense)
