Is it easy to press the old ball joint out and new ball joint in if you just want to replace the rear lower ball joint instead of the entire rear spindle/knuckle?
It might be, but I've been having the hardest time finding the actual ball joint for the rear knuckle. Even Toyota only sells the whole knuckle versus the individual ball joint. I would love to find that part myself as it would make this job a lot cheaper.
I haven't done that yet but since I recently swapped out for a JDM engine with pretty low miles I probably won't have to do it for a minute. I can imagine that the tensioner is held on with one, maybe two bolts and would have to be accessed through the side after removing the access panel.
@The Improvisation Center yes its a nut at the bottom and a long ass bolt at the top I removed the passenger motor mount to jack the engine up but it won't go high enough to clear the frame to get the bolt
@@kennethenglish3519 I've sometimes found I had to pull the mount then lower the engine below where it would sit then go in from the side. Engineers really had the end user in mind when they made these cars 😖😖😖
Question, Is the backing plate for the parking brake removable or part of the whole assembly? My parking brake backing plate is rusted and needs replacement. Again another part I can't find anywhere.
If it is removeable I would guess there should be most likely four bolts around the hub area, holding the piece to the knuckle itself. I can't see why the piece couldn't be removed. I can believe that this piece would end up being one of many unavailable pieces that have to be sourced from the junkyards unfortunately.
