My 2007 Toyota Tundra went into "Limp Mode" when multiple dash warning lights came on. This is how I fixed the Air Injection Switching Valve. I also changed to air pumps as well that were located under the passenger wheel well.
Ik it’s an old videos but even 5 yrs later this helped me today with the clips in the back those were a pain until I seen this to realize how to unclip them to remove the manifold so thank you
thanks for the video it was very helpful, took me 6.5 hours on this I got up to 250000 thous. miles before needing to replace. I didn't put the wiring harness clips back on. they were a pain. again thanks, you helped me save a lot of money.
Absolutely great video man! This is exactly what I'm dealing with and you showed the solution in a practical easy to understand way. Thank you so much for making this video!! It's what I'll be doing soon
Glad it helped. I ended up changing the pumps as well due to getting a relay code. That took care of it. There is a company that makes a by-pass for the whole system.
Had a P2440 code and Check Engine light on my '05 Tacoma. "Secondary Air valve stuck open". Finally found a source to buy one without breaking my bank ($140) and ordered one. Meanwhile thinking "I wonder if I can UNstick this thing?". I pulled off the hose that runs from the smog pump to the valve at the valve inlet port and squirted a couple ounces of Mercury Quicksilver (an amazing product designed to de-gick marine engines) into it. Let it sit overnight, cleared codes with my ODBII gizmo and drove the truck to town and back. The CEL never came back on. Now I'm debating whether to keep the new valve or return/sell it. I can do this 30 second repair a BUNCH of times with a ten dollar can of liquid magic! The truck is a 2.7L 4 banger so it just has one 'bank'. I would think it may work on a V6 too.
For marking different connections I use multi colored tape or metal markers. If you ever do a valve cover gaskets replacement it will help you immensely.
Did you need to replace the manifold gaskets? Just ordered and recieved the switching valve just want to make sure that's all I need before I break it open.
@@Hewitt-tech I'm having this exact same problem with my 07 Tundra 5.7. Are you saying if I install this bypass kit it will allow the truck to come out of limp mode and allow me to clear the codes? The dealership wanted over 2000.00 to repair.
@@granvilletownship Yes, we have several options depending on your codes. If you have any questions it is best to give us a call with your codes so we can go over the available solutions. Toll Free 844-307-7671
The answer (unless you live in California) to solve this once and forever is the bypass kit sold by Hewitt-Tech. I installed mine and solved my problem. Those valves are a pain in the neck if you live up north.
The secondary air system was put on to appease the EPA. The truck doesn't not need it! Bypass kit on ebay, basically bolt on. Running for years, no problem at all.
If I ever meet two of the engineers who did this truck, one is getting a hug, and the other is getting the hardest kick in the balls ever delivered by man. Love my '07, HATE working on it. The packaging is almost comically bad where things are located. Like today I ended up doing spark plugs. Any other vehicle with exception to the wife's car where the whole upper intake manifold had to come off never takes me more than an hour. '07 Tundra? Three hours! There's literally something in the way of Every Single Cylinder that has to be removed to get the coils out, and to get the plugs, you have to drop the socket in first, then chase it with the extension, then hope you can reach the b@stard without having to splay over the engine. And I'd call that easy compared to the alternator. Ugh... At any rate, here's to hoping it buys me a bit more time before the next backache.
Knock on wood, everything is still working fine after approx 10,000 miles and over a year. The air injection value and new snorkel cover that goes on the air pumps were genuine Toyota parts. However the air pumps were off brand (Chinese) from ebay. The price made it a no brainer. No problems with them except a slight louder sound at start up but nothing major.
Glad I could help. I did get another check engine code several days later. (P0418 Secondary Air Injection Relay). I ordered 2 aftermarket air pumps via ebay. I also changed the air pump inlet hose (Toyota part # 17621-38030). Total cost $160. Over a month and several hundred miles...so far so good.
@@MrRey007 I bet you also know all about the tax code and utilize each one without an accountant. Some people dont work on cars and ask questions. Dont be a dick man, it's people like you that make the world suck.
Mr.Reyam ...on mercedes benz v8s, intake manifold gasket has cylinder head pass through holes for coolant. I know because my SL m119 manifold gasket leaked and coolant went to cylinder 1. So, on some vehicle you need to drain coolant and or oil if you remove the intake mannifold. Or else it would be messy.
My brother and I did the job in 2.5 hours. We took lots of pics and remembered to be patient. It is very aggravating but once you are done it doesn’t seem so bad
No, the secondary air injection valve has to do with emissions and does not affect normal engine operations. However if it errors out to the computer it will put the vehicle in "limp mode". On mine it happened like a light switch got turned on. No build up or warning.
I have a 2007 4.7 L Tundra same issues! But I'm seeing what I believe to be the switching valves on each side of the motor, Any idea if this would be true?
Did your light stay off any updates? Reason I ask is I was getting the stuck open code. Replaced the valve now I'm getting a stuck closed. Code. With the stuck closed code the truck isn't going into limp. Mode. With the stuck open it was. I'm not sure what to check next. Pump?
@@Four2NineProductions I took a hammer and whacked the pump a few times now it's working. So I'll be replacing it. Dam shame that toyota replaced all this in 2012 under warranty. And now it's back. Thanks!
@@bigstick1970 same problem with my 2007 Tundra 5.7L. Pumps and air valves replaced in 2012 under warranty and now code 2440 comes up again. Going to dealer to complain about this one!
My car stuck in 4th gear and when I accelerate no powe the car barley moves and I changed the fuel filter fuel pump and no change if I disconnect the battery the car gets back to normal no problem
Did you replace the air pumps? Most of the time they need replaced as well. I bought some on ebay for $70 each. They are a little more noisy at start up but no problems after 2k miles.
Don’t do this, it will just fail again. Go to Hewitt industries and buy the bypass kit, I’ve had one on my 2012 for 6 years without issue. The pumps are in the wheel wells and pump water into the valves whenever it rains. Poor design and will fail again.
