Thanks man thats the same sound when i first started my mitsubishi lancer 2005 i got an error code P0456 small leak i already replaced my gas cap in the orignal dealership gas cap but i still have this error… is the symptoms sometimes im loosing power when i press the gas rapidly like chocking is that one of the symptoms? Also the sound u is same as my lancer. Thanks man for this short video!!
Your grandpa was a good man and had you pull his finger because he wasn't the kind of guy to toot his own horn. That means he was humble, which is a good quality.
this was absolutely the best automotive "diag" vid ive ever seen,, , brief and to the point- easy to understand. thank you a ton! gonna go test this out on my galant
this video is super helpful, thanks for explaining how each part worked and how the whole system is kinda put together. it really helped me get an understanding of what’s going wrong with my car
Awesome video! Thank you! Concise, to the point, and great camera placement! This will really help me either confirm or mark off why I’m getting an evap code.
Thanks, that was great! If you don't want to wait for the car to warm up, you can remove the electrical connector on the valve and clip a wire to each of your battery terminals. Carefully touch the other ends to the electrical contacts on the valve. If the valve is good, you'll hear a clicking sound as the solenoid moves.
oh and here i was thinking it was on the opposite like it opened on first start to aid for the fuel and then closes when the engine warms up 😅 thank you for clearing that up
Thank you so much my car keeps saying I have a Evap leak and we have tried 2 different gas caps so it’s not my gas cap so just trying to figure it out on our own so we don’t spend a ton of money getting it fixed in a garage
I HAVE A 05 MERCURY MARINER. USING YOUR VIDEO HERE AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S FROM ANOTHER TYPE OF VEHICLE, I LOCATED MY PURGE VALVE AND I WILL PERFORM THIS EXACT TEST. IF IT'S BAD I WILL REPLACE IT. MOST OF ALL YOUR VIDEO HERE WILL SAVE ME THE TROUBLE OF GOING UNDERNEATH THE CAR NEAR THE GAS TANK AND CHANGING THE VENT SOLENOID VALVE WHICH MAY STILL BE GOOD. IF THE PURGE VALVE TURNS OUT TO BE BAD. THEN I KNOW IT'S NOT THE VENT VALVE UNDERNEATH THE GAS TANK. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS. IT HELPS ELIMINATE A HEADACHE AND IT HELPS PEOPLE KEEP UP ON THE MAINTENANCE OF THEIR CARS. WHO HAS TIME TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC AND YOU GOT TO LEAVE THE CAR THERE ALL DAY WHEN YOU NEED TO USE YOUR CAR DAILY. AND IT'S A TOSS OF THE DICE IF THE MECHANIC IS HONEST OR NOT..
@@gt_drew2258 I REMOVED THE PURGE VALVE ON THE FIREWALL AND RAN DIRECT POWER TO IT AND IT'S FINE. THEN I DID A ELECTRICAL TEST AND FOUND THERE IS NO CONSTANT 12+ POWER THERE. I HAVE TO ALSO CHECK IF THE COMPUTOR IS SENDING THE 12- SIGNAL. I WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW I MAKE OUT AFTER I LOOK INTO IT FURTHER.
thanks for posting this ... can small evap leaks cause car engines to heat (not necessarily overheat) due to these exhausts not pumping fast enough? can it cause a car to "shake and rumble" upon acceleration? my guess is an exhaust pipe might cause those types of issues.
when the engine goes into close loop is when it starts operating and the fuel trims will go a bit rich because of the extra fuel vapors thats pulled in.
Thanks. Quick question (I hope). So I did the test and I can feel the vacuum when the engine has warmed up. But when I reattach the hose, the thumping (open/close?) noise is still present. Does this mean that the line further up is clogged?
Thank you for the video my name is Richard I drive a XLT 2021 F150 Ford says my purge valve was out they changed it and then it took them a couple weeks then they had to put one on my gas tank because I had a light on my Dash just got it back today after 3 weeks light come back on nice trying to say it's from the LED lights I put on my truck that had no problems for 2 months any suggestions
What if it works intermittently? When I started the car (2008 mercury mariner hybrid) it would not suck even after warming up. The car was higher than normal on idle and the p0455 code came in. I have checked voltage on the connector and I was getting 14v. When it went down to 13v I plugged it back to the valve and it started sucking. The engine light went away. Is the valve the issue or should I look elsewhere?
Would this be the same part to cause overpressure in the fuel system or something else? I have a small evaporator code and getting horrible fumes from the tank area and also noticed my tank is wet and fuel dripping.
Hello friend when the engine going warm, does the Files when you touch it in your finger you feeling like little vibration (the valve )is that normally or not thank you
Great explanation! Mine is sucking like crazy even with the electric disconnected. Stuck open so I will replace. Hopefully that will fix my p0449 on a Chevy Tahoe.
Did it clear the code? I'm about to check this to see if that's the problem. My evap vent value behind the gas tank looks good but I can't check it due to the damn clip on the hose line (won't come off)
Damn, I don't even think I have screwdrivers that small. I'll go pick some up later on. Also on the purge value under the engine cover, how did you test it? Mine has a vacuum line attached to it that won't come off and a stem that has a screwed on green cap. Which one would I use to see if it is staying open or not? Idk what year Tahoe you have but mines a 06 with the 5.3. the previous owner neglected the hell out of this truck, rear main seal was bad and my lifters have that tick
I don’t get it why on my car I don’t get the purge valve after the car warmed up and two different purge valves not to open. I have no codes what so ever is very frustrating.
@joshuafleming4433 6 months later here lol. The clip pushes very easy. A pair of needle nose pliers worked great for me. Trick is to push both tabs up Abita and pinch the top part with other hand then drop the pliers and the hose eascomes off
What is the noise when you first started the vehicle? I have a 2020 Jeep wrangler 2.0 and it sounds just like this when idling, is that a normal engine noise?
Good check, but note that GM does a evaporate test on cold start and passes vacuum to the evaporation system. If the system does not hold vac or is not vented quickly on Vent, or build vac, codes can be set.
so i have the entire valve off, and blowing through it. should i be able to get air going in in either direction? just 1 direction? the new valve i bought (wrong size btw) doesnt allow air through either side. is this what should be happening with the stock valve?
Would this cause my car to feel like i lost a cylinder or two if its bad solenoid? I got a code for the purge flow but not sure if thats whats causing my car to feel very slugish
Hey... did it cross ur mind to actually how the location of purge valve cuz it's unclear where it's actually located for those that aren't familiar with a vehicle.
Thank you my code said it was the egr valve so got a new one same problem starts and stalls again till I remove the egr valve connector and it runs fine but once I done what you done it turned out my purge valve was stuck open from a cold engine replaced it and perfect and passed emissions aswel as it failed last time
My accord v6 purge valve also making that too til noise and it’s irritating too. Is there any solution to reduce the noise. Hondas technician said it totally normal
I got an EVAP code and they suggested this part I changed out the part and the new one is making a that I never heard before. It doesn't seem normal so I don't know if it's supposed to do that. When I took my old one off I checked it for flow and I can't blow through it so they say it's good when it's like that so I don't even know if I'm replacing the part that is throwing the code?
Also, you can just put 12v power to it using some jumper wires and you can hear it click to open and you will be able to blow through it. Without power, valve should be closed and won't be able to blow through it.
So mine (Toyota Camry 2014 with the 2AR) actually has a third nub but nothing is hook up to it (part 90910-tc001) is that just an air purge or is it actually supposed to connect to another vacuum line
Does this valve start faulting and finally quits? Does it start sticking until it goes bad? I tested mine as per your video and it does have suction. Twice though, after gassing up it won’t start like if it is flooded and eventually it will start. Thanks
Question... I ran my engine a good 20 minutes and the valve never pulled suction although in the hose from the manifold - there was suction. So I placed my finger over the open tube on the valve for a few seconds and in doing so it began to function as you show. Is it possible the valve is intermittent or sticking thus throwing the codes?
will a stuck open purge solenoid cause the Po450 code i had my Toyota T100 3.4 check engine codes that came up i had the P0450 code and the P0441 code i know my purge solenoid is stuck open it draws vaccume whenyou start engine cold
Thank you for making this test available. I own a 2007 Honda Odyssey with a P145c trouble code. I did the test and the valve test good. Any suggestions as to what I should check next. Thanks again.
