FYI I know for A fact that the 2006 2.3 and it takes a cartridge. The thicker oil,,, on higher mileage car a thickee oil will F Up gaskets and seals so use 5W/20 Oil i say F synthetic use conventional

You could probably use a dremel and cut a slot across the head of that drain plug and use a straight screw driver to get it out and then just replace the drain plug.

Noticed a lot of comments on gloves . They not only protect your hands , they help keep them clean . Very important if I have to do paperwork , greet customers , or use tools with rubber grips that oil literally dissolves . It also just looks more professional . And who wants to be the 1 in a million person that actually develops a medical issue from oil exposure ? Lastly , it is an O.S.H.A. compliance regulation .

Is changing the o ring absolutely necessary? Or can I just do filter and oil and regular gasket around the filter my hex won’t open the screw either

The thing is so tight the wrench doesn't move it. Along with the rubber tool and others. It's on very tight. I already drained the oil pan.Recommend? I have a 2009 Ford Fusion S.

I have a 2009 model with the 2.3 Mazda 4 cylinder engine. I have the 5 speed auto trans ,the trans works ok , but one issue I have is that starting out from a dead stop it will shift fine from 1st to 2nd , and 2nd to 3rd, however when it goes from 3rd to 4th it shifts hard ,4th to 5th is fine. It's the 3rd to 4th that shifts hard. Any ideas what could be causing that ? I'm suspecting a shift solenoid ?

I have worked on vehicles since around 1980 and have never seen mechanics use gloves until recently. Have never had cancer either and I have even worked on Big diesel trucks. There was no such things as protective gloves for a person to wear then.

I cannot for the life of me find a video of the oil pan removal of these things. Bought the Haynes and there are no illustrations, but it says you need an engine support bar and a jack to get the oil pan separated from the bell housing. Is that true? Is it really that involved?

Cartridge oil filter. Everything old is new again...says my '54 John Deere 40. Edit. With that many miles you should also buy a new oil plan bolt. $5 and saved you a trip back to the parts place. Edit edit. It's a Ford. Buy a Motorcraft filter. Consistently rated top filter. Or a Wix or Napa gold.

That thicker oil is not going to hurt yo engine. As long as it's clean. Don't do that with gasoline Nathan.You use the gas the manual reads you to use!
