Vivaldi is my very favorite Composer when it comes to Classical. Which makes sense for me as I'm a lead guitarist lead singer fronting many bands over the years of my life. Vivaldi was the super pop metal type and yet most melodic (IMHO) composer of his day and any other. As well excellent job on showing the job I need to do on my 2008 335XI replacing the whole front suspension. I've already done the wheel bearing but I am expecting the whole front suspension set up to arrive next week and I will be doing the whole works. Including the struts control arms ball joints etc. Great job!
Awesome video, Jake! This helps a lot on changing suspension most notably the wheel hub. I initially just planned to replace forward and lower control arms but got stuck with the ball joint. I eventually decided to remove the knuckles to press them out using the same 12-ton hydraulic press from Harbor Freight with a 24mm impact socket, steel plate and some lumber. I cannot believe the amount of force it took to pop them out. During inspection I noticed the bearings were grinding so now decided to just replace the bearings as well. I was planning to bring it to the shop till I saw your post! It reinforces me to DIY it and have another badge to my garage expertise! Will be doing that tomorrow when the parts arrive from FCPEuro. Thank you!
22:45 this part adjusts the front light beam depending on the weight in the car; 40:42 The BMW M struts are air pressured and will slide down to about half of the travel. This is meant to provide a comfort ride when you don't go through bumps and corners. As soon as the strut leaves it's middle position it will firm up. It's not a sigh of "bad condition" or wear. 47:50 a stiff ball joint is a good sign. Loose ball joint is not what you want. Neverthess cracks in the rubber kill the joint. So it was good to replace it. 1:00 you did notice that the circlip was not in properly?
Appreciate the video. Very detailed, I’m about to do the same on my car soon. And seriously I don’t how you got the upper tension strut ball joint but off that easy. I replaced mine at 169000miles the arms but had to ruin and cut the ball joint off with a saw because the nylon nut seazed
What tool did you use to push the axel through the hub??? I seriously need one right now and can’t find one that fits over the hub flange. If you see this please respond man I need my car for work I can’t find one that is big enough for the flange
Good video. Glad you are getting an alignment. Tightening your suspension components should happen at ride height. You are very correct that it is hard to find e60 xdrive videos.
Can you share what struts you installed? I can't find many options for the xDrive E60s but am planning to replace with Sachs which I believe were OEM, but they sure aren't cheap! Did you use Sachs as well?
Man! Really good video. Thank you. I am about to do that and I have been debating if the 12 ton press would be enough. Did you feel at anytime you should have gotten the 20 Ton one.
