Personally I would never work on a vehicle if it's warm/hot especially after my dad (who owns a mechanic shop) had an incident where he opened the radiator cap while the customers vehicle he was working on was still hot and scolding hot coolant exploded and shot up in his face and he suffered severe burns from that.
@Turbo231
@Turbo231 Год назад
Yeah, your supposed to check the transmission fluid with the transmission warm and running in park, so its kinda required. Coolant system is a different story.

The video tutorial for these cars is appreciated, But I want to make an observation: You will understand that automatic transmissions have a hydraulic torque converter and its respective oil cooler. Okay. Where do I replace the oil in those devices??? The turbine stores about 4 liters of oil and the lines like the cooler about a liter and a half. By simply draining the oil from the transmission crankcase and putting new oil in, you are going to mix new oil with old, the performance and quality of that oil is compromised. As I understand it, you remove the return hose from the cooler and with the transmission crankcase full it turns on and when you see a change in oil color, you turn off the engine, put the hose in its place and fill the transmission to level, That is a transmission oil change. The problem is with the design of these cooler hoses and how to disassemble them 😵😵😵. GM no longer cares about making cars durable and easy to access for maintenance. But anyway, your video is appreciated.

This has always been the way. Yes, draining the oil doesn't take away all the oil, and if you change it 5 times, there will always be some amount of original oil in the transmission. But...any new oil is better then old oil. I ended up doing 3 oil changes, as it only uses a few quarts, and that is such a significant upgrade to the old oil, you're good. It has been this way since the beginning of automatic transmissions which tells you that you don't have to get all the fluid out to get big improvements.

My wife's 09 equinox just started with the 2 to 3 engine flair the other day. 100,000miles on it... Atf has never been changed. I'm dreading having to do this. I truly really am. Ugh. Hope it fixes the issue

Changing the fluid is easy, I just hope you caught it soon enough it fixes the problem.

Great video yet I found out my arm is too fat bc you have more room in front of your fan, I have a 2005 and I’m about 2 inches or less from touching it and I’m considering seeing if I can remove my battery and tray holder to get to from opposite side, only bc I’m trying to avoid going under near front bumper to try get motor mount removed! Yet, I’ll get it figured out someway to find access but this a good video. Also the sea foam was this your first time using it ?
@Turbo231
@Turbo231 Год назад
Yes to using the sea foam in the transmission. Thinking things were dirty and needed cleaning worked out. Knock on RU-vid wood, it worked.

My 2007 equinox has 415k miles original trans and it slips from 2nd to 3rd I hate to give up on it it runs like new on the original engine my goal is to get it to half a million may put a trans in it it's a lot cheaper than a car payment
@Turbo231
@Turbo231 Год назад
Well, give it a try.

Where do u add the transmission fluid
@Turbo231

Same hole you check it from, helps to have a funnel with a long hose as per the video.

P0797 code with a no start in the same vehicle. Solenoid c stuck on? Would this be worth a shot or change transmission. The trans fluid has never been changed.
@Turbo231
@Turbo231 6 месяцев назад
I'd drop some coin on a knock off Tech2 scan tool and actuate that solenoid a bunch to see if I could get it back. You can pull the cover (pain) and replace solenoid which I would be inclined to do if I had an outright failure. And change the transmission fluid immediately.

Great video. Thank you! Now i dont have to pay a mechanic to do this for me! Ive had my 2005 for 12 years, and it had 100k miles on it when i got it. Ive doubled the mileage and only had minor issues with it. Most expensive thing ive paid for is tires!

My 2009 doesn’t have a shift issue. Shifts well. I got a code p0741. I’ve never changed the fluid. It just hit 200k. What should I do?
@Turbo231
@Turbo231 Год назад
Do this video. Either 2 things will happen. It will fix it and go away. Or Totally blow it up as dirt and such is holding it all together. I typically option the first one. I have heard 60,000 miles is recommended for longest life. I changed mine 3 times to make sure I had most of the old fluid out.

Would saturn T-IV be the same as the Toyota T-IV? My manual says the 08 3400 awd calls for saturn T-IV and I've never heard of it.
@Turbo231
@Turbo231 Год назад
I think so, Dextron-VI works too.
@albertoborrero8306
@albertoborrero8306 6 месяцев назад
Whatever you do, use the T-IV. This is specific for a toyota transmission. If you use something else, you will not be able to drive it for 100 yards. You will have to replace the transmission. ONLY T-IV fluid. It is the same as the Saturn
@albertoborrero8306
@albertoborrero8306 6 месяцев назад
there are 2 engines for the 2nd gen Equinox. The 3.4L engine uses T-IV and the 3.6L engine uses Dextran VI. Do not mix them up.

@bobgnops there's a tread online about changing your trans valve solenoids with a rostra kit I just did it but haven't added the fluid back in yet to know if I'm fixed but all 3 of us had the same issues ran fine while cold but once it warmed up 30 to 40min later it's started sliping
