We have an 08 AWD model. Got it with 88000 miles on it 5.5 years ago and currently has 224,000 miles. Very few issues, mostly wheel bearings needing replaced. No engine or trans problems at all. It's been a super-reliable vehicle for us.
Have a 08 with 286k miles only issues I’ve had was the head gasket going at 260k, burns about a half a quart of oil a week other than that it’s been a great car
I just bought an '07 LT AWD, that's in absolute mint condition with 151k for $1500 CAD. Only issue was the SRS light on, and was an easy fix. Just tightened the pins on the module and sensor plugs. Good to go.
It should be noted that the transmission issue you discuss is only applicable to the 2008-2009 Equinox Sport/Torrent GXP with the 3.6L engine and 6T70 6-speed automatic transmission. All the other models with the 3.4L engine came with an Aisin AF33-5 transmission which is very reliable.
@@skankcore808 As long as it's not rusted out it should last a while. We've had our 2007 Equinox LT FWD since 2008. It has 210k miles on it and still shifts like new. There are four other noteworthy trouble spots on these. 1) The brackets attached to the front brake hoses rust from the inside out, crimp the hoses, and make them act like a check valve which causes the calipers to hang up. I replaced the front brake hoses almost three years ago for this issue. 2) The radiator fan motor connectors develop a bad connection with age. If not caught and addressed promptly, they eventually overheat and melt which prevents the fans from turning on. I believe this is the root cause of what many have reported as "head gasket issues." I needed to clean up my connections a couple times over the years because the fans stopped running, but haven't needed to replace the connectors yet. 3) The EGR valves go bad and cause a check engine light along with a service stabilitrak warning. Ours is on the 4th EGR valve. 4) The last of these vehicles rolled of the assembly line 13 years ago. Time appears to have taken a toll on the heater cores. There has recently been an uptick of videos posted about replacing them on these vehicles. Ours just started to leak earlier this year. I've put some GM stop leak pellets in it which seems to have helped for now.
The aisin is bullet proof mine has 415k and it's just now slipping from 2nd to 3rd but still takes me to work everyday you just gotta let off and let it shift then she's sprinting the 3.4 is og to it's still very peppy
We have an 06, and it probably doesn't matter cause of it being a year difference, but another possible problem for hot air in the AC is your fanning system. The system is wired oddly, and by that, I mean the system has a third relay that isn't in the actual fuse panel, but under the driver side headlight and bolted to the frame. If you're someone who has problems with controlling your engine temp, the little fan, which is loud, comes on too often, and/or the big fan seems to never work, and the AC is doing that thing where it only seems to run cold when the car's moving, the ultimate problem is the third relay located on the car's frame. That relay not only helps control the big fan, it's also a ground for the other two. When it goes out, not only do you have problems with the big fan not working, but it puts more stress on the little fan, causing the relay for that fan to burn out prematurely. Another thing too, a lot of mechanics don't know about this. All relays and fuses are expected to be on the fuse panel, but it seems the poor car's engine had a last minute installment. If you have this problem, let your mechanic know about it. If they ask why, just give them a simple explanation and ask them to check for it. Our mechanic didn't know and he was awesome enough to work with us to find it.
I am on my second 2008 Chevy equinox. The AC and heat in both cars both gave me problems. The AC in this LTZ was having issues. We checked the fuses first and then had to replace it. Charging the system with Freon only temporary really helped, but the car kept saying it was overheating when it wasn’t. The fan fix helped. Also I can tell you we had the same check engine light And it was the gas cap air in. Great video
We had an '05. I had to replace the starter. A few other issues I don't remember. Told my wife, had I realized the '05 was the very 1st model year, I wouldn't have bought it. My wife loved the thing. It was an okay vehicle. Eventually sold it to a friend, I think they still have it. They've had a few more problems with it than we had, but have enjoyed as well.
Well , I have one since new 2005 and don't have any problems with the suv , only 4 times in mechanic , for repalce suspension , alternator and mantenance , the best vehicle I have , and I use it to tow boats I abuse it a lot and it never stop working , but I live in tropic it does not snow here
Good video. My 2 issues have been the gas cap/ check engine light & leaking inside the car from the sunroof drains clogging. Otherwise, a great car with 175000 miles on it. This car loves the highway!
I realize it's been a year since you posted, so you've probably fixed the problem, but when I had the check engine light on with EVAP codes, the cure turned out to be replacing the charcoal canister (after everything else was tried, of course).
The worst and strangest think is the factory paint (maroon) peeling off in the large pieces. Seems to be an issue with some but not all of the maroon ones of this era. Also, the Stabilitrak light being on is a constant struggle on our 2008 Equinox. Various issues around that. Otherwise, it's been a decent car mechanically with 165K miles and still going.
I have a 2005 Equinox with 237,000 miles on her. She still runs good. The only things I had to fix was a rusted freeze plug behind the water pump at 235,000. I put a new water pump on it and a new main seal gasket while I had it apart. Of course oil and brakes.
Where to start with this vehicle. My wife bought this 05 equinox brand new ( Now driving 15 equinox) and drove it for 10 years. Now its my headache. Currently third engine due to overheating. On Previous engines i had so many parts replaced it probably was close to the price of the car in 05. Key/ ignition problems. AC problems. Front tires wear out every 8 -12 months. Water accumulates through rear hatch by spare tire because of bad gasket( dealer replaced it) ,i ve replaced all 4 window motors, the infamous 3 clicks sound that nobody seems to know what it is, and more. BOTTOM LINE DO NOT BUY A FIRST YEAR EDITION OF ANY CAR. WAIT TO SEE WHAT PROBLEMS ARISE.
I've got an 07 with 250k on it. Thankfully the only issue I have is the left side of the instrument cluster went out. Other than that it's been one of the best vehicles I've ever had.
Hi. I was interested in your comment and was hoping that perhaps you could help me. I have a 06 Equinox and it’s due for tags but I keep getting a P0641 and also a P0455(evap/gas cap ?) code. I have 187 k on my car and it’s in mint condition but I have honestly put 2k into this car over the past year. I’ve put an entire new braking system into this car due to continuous sticking calipers!) My question is, did your Equinox show a P0641 code when your instrument cluster went out? Thanks and sorry for such a long comment. God bless you ❤️
Have almost 190,000 miles on my '05 and very few problems so far. Have only changed the front struts and the water pump. AC compressor bad (clutch makes buzzing sound) so I've just learned to live without AC. Front bushings still tight, knock on wood.
I had one and it’s an amazing reliable car, you just have slightly higher chance of there issues but what car doesn’t have issues. I loved mine and regretted selling it
I just done a heater core on my dads 2009 equinox, it was the most labor intensive job I have ever done on a vehicle, and I have done lots, The heater core was $80, and I can see why a mechanic would charge $1000+ labor easy, it requires removal of the entire dash, steering wheel and gas/brake pedal assembly, as well as some bolts and hoses under the hood against the firewall, the job took me 15 hours, if i did it again it still would easily take 10 hours, horrible design for access and repair, the ac condenser is also located under here as well.
I have an 05 got it through a dealer was fine until warranty ran out n now I've put more into it then ive made payments worst mistake getting this car 🤦♀️ one thing is for sure I'm learning more n more mechanical stuff to do myself
I have a Pontiac Torrent with the same 3.4L engine.. This thing consume A LOT of gas, I'm wondering what could be the problem with that. I don't have any check engine lights on the dashboard
Excellent voice , clear and easily understood, good rate of delivery. Nice "oh yeah" comments to complete the job and avoid further problems short term. REALLY ENJOYED. no wasted time. :EXCELLENT:
Awesome video man very detailed. I got one extra problem to add they have 6 problems they burn oil and as a result the engines lock up due to low oil consumption. My mother has one getting its third engine put in. Hopefully like they third times a charm. Take it easy and god bless you and your family peace out.
We have one of these and have had issues with it since day 1..... Transmission does what ever it wants. I feel sorry for my wife she has to drive that thing. Electric power steering gets tired if you use it to much. No A.C., HVAC fan relay burns constantly, taillights / rear break lights, burning out constantly; this probably from bad negative lines to the rear, over heats> Changed all the basic stuff > Still overheats > The most dangerous.. The subframe is rotting... Car is trash... One of the worst mistakes we ever made. The only thing good about it was the
06 v6 equinox here with odd driver caliper drag after caliper and line replacement. ABS seems to work fine and no codes with somewhat melted sensor harness from locking caliper. Booster holds vacuum and fluid comes down line fine.
I have a 2009 Equinox with 300k miles. Only thing on this list that has happened was the control arm bushings going bad. Also like to note that the intake manifold just started leaking, so it's going to be a pain to replace it.
@@mr2hard2see yes. I replaced my gas cap 3 times. At first I thought it was something else but after doing the smoke test it was the gas cap. For some reason if the gas cap isn’t just right the code keeps coming back.
I have a 2007 Chevy equinox. I love it never had a problem with it until recently. My key gets stuck in the ignition. It won’t allow me to turn to lock and remove the key It gets stuck in acc position. The other problem I have is when putting my car in drive the doors automatically locked now they don’t. My instrument panel also always reads my passenger door is open and rear door is open. It’s not open either. When I used to push the lock button on my key fob, my car used to honk now it doesn’t. The horn does work though if I push on it. I’m hoping it’s just a sensor or something easy to fix myself. I wish it was a recall. Please reply if anyone knows what the problem is or has had this problem also, I also don’t know if they’re all related problems or separate ones
I have a 2008 equinox with 260 thousand miles on it I've replaced the struts brakes battery changed the oil every 3000 miles it has a 3.4 v6 never have to add oil, I also replaced the gasket on the oil filter housing.
I have a 07 equinox I also had a overheating problem wound overheat at idle. The fix was the thermostat. What I didn’t know that there is a 180 degree thermostat and a 195 degree one. I replaced to the generic brand 195 degree and it still overheated and blew coolant out of the fill reservoir. But I had no leaks anywhere else. I replaced again with AC Delco 180 degree and hasn’t overheated ever since.
@@JPB1976 To add to this, whenever replacing the thermostat it will overheat if the cooling system has air in it. Using the bleeder screw it took me like 30 minutes to bleed the system, I'd recommend for people to vacuum the cooling system when refilling it. I use this tool now and it work great: OEMTOOLS 24444.
@@JPB1976 Most all my Chevy vehicles I’ve replaced always with 180 thermostat due to I want my fans to kick on early to bring the temperature down...js
This was a lot of useful information. Thank you. I just bought, literally today, a 2009. The guy I bought it from repaired a grocery list of problems before selling it to me. Notably the bushings. It's got 134K on it so I'm hoping it'll run for 5-6 years before repair costs exceed its value.
guy i bought it from replaced the intake gasket, shocks and struts to name the more important stuff now that i have it heater cores gone bad so constant air building in the cooling system so no heat when cold, electrical issues losing comms w modules, bushings are busting, and now my rear diff is clunking
Have an 05 equinox. 2nd engine put in. Nome of rhe bolts were tight. So did the head job and permitext all the gasket areas. Let dry then put together. Running s hot with age valve. Bur when disconnected. It runs fine.
I have a 2005 equinox. So far I've had a main front seal leak, timing cover leak, collapsed hydraulic valve lifter, Accelerator pedal sensor, seized brake caliper, slow first start (probably a bad fuel pump check valve), EGR tube leak (still haven't fixed), ABS light comes on sometimes (I assume it's just a cracked sensor ring). I've also noticed some clunking in the front end, I was thinking sway bar links but I'll also check the LCA bushings like mentioned in the video.
Equinox Ls 2006 150 Miles Just a reminder, never use an Autozone coolant cap this equinox. Needs an original cap from another junkyard equinox because it will overheat and you'll think it's heads again --just hands up✍🏻
I have a question if you could answer it my first gen equinox is currently doing this thing where it is bouncing the speedometer and it kinda loses a little power and then starts shifting weird, I was told that they have a lot of electrical issues and mine was used as a flood car in jersey
Just to add I've got a 2008 Chevy equinox sport now I've changed the engine 3 times because of the oil consumption problem is there anyway that problem can be fixed? Or even controlled ?
Piston rings worn. Getting blow by. Can check plugs and see if dark and slightly oily. Needs engine rebuild so cheaper just to keep adding oil, won't hurt the car just the wallet. They have additives but I've never had success.
My service engine light is on my 2007 Chevy equinox. And when I go to put my car in park to and try to take key out it won't let me remove the key. So the only way I can get it out is to restart car and put the car in gear and then park real hard. I don't know what to do?????
2008 at 132,000 miles water and oil mixed. Ran hot with all of that I think the head gasket or pistons went bad. Having an engine install now as we speak. 😢 I will stay away from Chevrolet products going forward toooo many issues from reading the comments. Lexus or Camrys for me. Blessings!!!!❤😊
Also, what would cause the engine to stall at a stop (while in gear) only when the A/C on? Idle control valve comes to mind. Can and idle control valve be serviced? Or is it only a remove and replace item? Thanks man!!!
My car has done that for years!! Mine will try to die when I’m braking going down a hill. I’ve had nothing but problems out of my 06 since I paid it off.
Hey, I like the presentation of those 5 issues in chevy equinox. Actualy I have a 2008 and when put the back drive ( R) i hear a kind of growls when press the gas pedal when moving, what is that?
Bro, I haven't seen any videos on my exact model of equinox, and it's very frustrating to want to fix my car. I'm starting to think that I'm the only person with a 2008 Chevy Equinox 3.6L V6 engine AWD. There's videos that have some similarities, but most the time, I run into issues that I have no idea where to start on my car.
Have 07 equinox. Got it. Previous owner took all the hoses to the heater core off. And took a hose and tried bypassing it. Uh no go. Got it. Took hoses off a donor. A transferred them to mine. Was doing good. Then one day got a hot. But coolant was normal. Hmm replaced the thermostat. Well, I added one to it. The guy before deleted the original one completely gone. But I replaced it and that didn't work. Well I read about burping the coolant system. So I got the no spill parts for the gravity fed coolant overflow. Got the bleeder valve and hose. Wow was alot of air bubbles. And after it ran good, for awhile. Then it started getting hot again. So I reburped it. And it was good again...for awhile. Keep repeating burp, then good. Then hot, burp and good. Not working. I Can't figure out what is going on. Have wrote on several equinox videos and forums that others having same problem. But nothing. So do I throw in the towel or does anyone have any ideas? Because I would wipe a toad on it and stand on my head if I thought it would help. (Joking) lol
Just for giggles; what manual RWD transmissions share the same bell housing as this engines bell housing? Or, what designation does this engine's bell housing have?
I have a 2006 Chevy equinox that when I start the engine it starts fine, but after 10 minutes or so it dies. I wait a while, I start the car again after may be five minutes or so, It dies. sometimes after 15 mins it dies? I took it to a mechanic, He couldn’t figure it out he told me to take it to the dealer. Mechanic said that it seems like a computer issue that I would have to take it to the dealer. I called a friend they work for Chevy dealer for several years the first thing that came out of his mouth was: “don’t take it to a dealer” He said take it to a smog place or muffler shop?? Any ideas?
+Alex Martin We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
clean the intake manifold. Easy to do. If a shop does it they can adjust the computer. Otherwise, you will have to drive the car for a week for the engine to relearn how to run "carbon free".
Hello, can someone please tell me why wen i applied brakes and im allmost there stopping all the way, soon i came to that point stoping, thats wen he starts making some grinding noise and starts slipping , and wont stop the car keeps going.i change brakes, rotor, caliper still same thing.2005 chevy equinox please if someone can tell me whats wrong
Hey Mark, its more than likely your front brake hoses, same thing with my 07, brakes stayed on, Change brake hose both sides in front and you'll be good to go, don't forget to bleed your brake lines after you install.new.hoses.
I have an 06 supposedly the third owner have replaced shocks/struts carrier bearing have replaced all 4 control arm bushings 2 wheel bearing/ hub assemblys and 3 thermostats theres a short in the wiring harness lights blow at random and some lights come out when they want to it litterly just over heated to the point I thought it was going to catch fire while idling 🤦♀️its burned oil since day 1 and leaks no matter what pretty sure the all 3 gaskets are gone now head, intake, and manifold I love the car itself shed climb a tree she always had the get up and go but I've put more money in it than its been worth
Mine’s an 06 as well and I’ve put 2k into it in the past year! You name it, it’s new but it’s due for tags and I’m getting a P0641 and P0455 code🙄 The 455 hopefully is just that I need to put a Chevy gas cap on it because I just bought a universal and the 0641 could be a short in wiring in only God knows where!!! I paid it off, service light came on, and I’ve put tons of money into it!
