Rollin through the pasture and the steering gear let loose. I figure if I am going to replace it, y'all might as well come along. Post any questions below, I try to answer them all!
Mike, these trucks do take Mercon V in the Power Steering. You were pointing at the V and saying IV (four) at the 25:46 mark. That is indeed the correct fluid for the 6.4L to my understanding. Have they changed the specs? Because I am about to change all my PS lines and will need to do a flush/refill after.
Nope, you're ABSOLUTELEY CORRECT. That's a good catch. Guess I was pretty tired when I was making this! Going to pin your comment to make sure people see it! Mercon V (five) is the standard specified in the Workshop Manual.
Hey did your hydraulic lines sit flushed with the box once you were done tightening them? Mine stopped and have some thread showing. They did screw in nice and easy and obviously I started them by hand.
Yes, they will only go as deep as the taper at the bottom allows. As long as they didn't bind or cross thread going in and torqued with no issues, you should be fine. Some aftermarket parts store boxes aren't the same as the FoMoCo castings.
@@USAF99 Thank you, I just installed a Redhead steering box. Test drive felt NICE. Hopefully it stays that way. Also will be doing the upper and lower ball joints. Thanks for all the info in the videos, I play them as I'm doing all my mechanical jobs lol.
