Im so glad you have this video. I'm a mechanic myself, but I use videos like these to smooth along the process for specific cars, plus I make sure I have all the tools I need at the time, and don't end up with a pile of them next to me. Coincidentally I'm replacing this exact belt on my personal, New to me, car that I got a few days ago. I'm just running through it to get everything up to snuff. It's funny because I see you talking about the alternator belt and the tires, and I just imagine all the messed up stuff we see on customers vehicles that needs to be addressed, yet they accuse us of trying to "up sell" them lol. Service writers will do that, mechanics won't. I'm much happier working for an independent shop than a dealership.

Wow very informative I have a loose AC belt and I didn’t know where to start to even find the tensioner. Not only do I have the same year Kia spectra but even the same color! Thank you for posting and thank God for RU-vid

The tensioner is built into the idler pulley on the AC belt (that's the smooth one between the AC compressor pulley and the crank pulley). As he shows in the video you need to loosen the bolt in the center of the idler pulley, then there's another bolt (12mm I believe) on the back side of the idler pulley closer to the firewall. It can be tough to see, but you can easily feel it with your hand and get a socket/wrench on it. I was able to fit a little M12 impact behind there and that made it come off much faster. Then the whole idler pulley slides back and you can remove the belt.

I had to loosen the bottom bolt or pivot bolt or whatever it’s called, before I could get the alternator to slide back a bit. Other than that with this video I changed all three belts. I may go back and loosen the power steering belt a little bit cause I got it fairly tight but it seemed tighter than the others I changed. Thank you.

Thank you I followed your instructions and was able to replace the air conditioning belt. I found out in my case that the tension pulley for the air conditioning belt was defected once replaced worked as a charm! Thanks Again

Thanks for the video. I screwed up and galled up the crank shaft bolt trying to get it out, had to order another one from Kia. My own fault, didn't even need to take that bolt off to change the ac belt but I wasn't paying close enough attention. Went fast and smooth once I got that back in.

The Sportage and Sephia/Spectra are the only "freewheeling engines." The valves do not interfere with the pistons if the timing belt fails. All other Kia engines are "interference engines.” The valves may interfere with the pistons if valve timing is off.

Anwar Shah good chance the valves are bent on that motor but a leakdown test will diagnose that quickly

That belt looks cracked like mine was when I was told to think about replacing soon and what do you know it went when it was -1 degrees out at 8:30pm after work last night I now know when things start making noise and a trusted experienced mechanic says you might want to replace then you sure do replace!!

Thanks for the help dude. Just to confirm, the belt on the outside is the AC belt ? My car just shredded it and I lost my power steering and my batter like it on, but it's the belt on the outside.

Awesome informative video. Looks like the same set up for a Kia Rio I’m working on. I am also replacing the a/c compressor belt. I happened to run into a problem though. While loosening the 14 mm center bolt on the tensioner pulley, I over did it and the pulley came off along with three to four washer-like fittings. I cannot seem to get them back in the order they go. Any help or pointers you can give on how to properly assemble the tensioner fittings? Much appreciated.

09 spectra, now I know what size those bolts on the alternator are. Couldn’t figure out how make belt loose. Tight space makes it hard to work on

Thanks for the video! Very informative. Question - does this model only use one serpentine belt to connect all the drives? I am a novice with car parts, and after a recent maintenance inspection I was told I needed the AC belt, alternator belt, and water pump belt replaced - costing about $500. Does this sound at all reasonable?

Ive had my kia brand new of the lot 2007 never had a problem with it 5 years delivering pizza and a hard 160000 miles on it I would buy the same car again no problem
