Love my lr3. I've also had lr2 land rovers. I see in the comments some talking about bad customer service but my land Rover dealer is great. They have helped out me lots of times and always answer my questions. I guess that just depends on who runs the dealership
Mr Kruger your best bet with an Lr3 is that the truck has a clean service record. Things to check would be the function of the air suspension as fixing that is pricy. Also the control arms have been known to wear out. My lr3 has actually been pretty reliable. Doing the scheduled maintenance is important. As long as you take care of your ride it will last.
***** Yeah! Is the Air suspension with the terrain response system reliable? Or was failure of the air suspension a common thing? Do you know? Sorry for all the questions I'm really excited about it. Its a really clean army green one. I hear the ride on road is extremely smooth?
I've never had a problem with my terrain response system it seems to work flawlessly. I havent had issues with my air suspension. The lr3 is a great machine just know parts aren't cheap. Not sure your budget here.
oh man, I'm going to buy one of these, and I just came across this review. It's amazing how far Kelley Blue Book reviews have come! Also, its great that these old school videos are still up to remind us of how things used to be.
Niran Tilakaratne my father in law has one that he bought brand new and only has 36k miles so far. I think though his is from 2004. car is great when he pulls it out. he rather let me put all his miles on my Honda Accord..
Actually, a Range Rover Sport is made on a chopped and shortened LR3 chassis and shares many components with the LR3, including the engine, electronics, transmission, etc. Plus i don't know if you know this, but its not like Range Rovers are made by non-Land Rover workers. It's like Mercedes-Benz and every other car manufacturer, a C-class can be made right alongside an S-Class. Lastly, Land Rover is the company and the RR is it's flagship, so they are the same company not owned by the same.
Thanks Will, I purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L and love it so far. It has everything the Land Rover had but with much more power and better service. And it is American made :). I really did like the LR3 but service at my dealer was horrible. It also cost $15,000.00 less then the LR3.
+Ben Evans Prices are all over the place but the real pain is finding a solid runner. Almost purchased one a few weeks ago. Looked great inside and out, but needed a valve job badly. I was hoping it just needed adjusting but it was really shaking. It looked so Good. Summit white with black wheels.
I mean if you have a brand issue thats totally your preference, nothing to do about that. But you can't just hate the company for what it is, because ever since taking over Jaguar and Land Rover (and i'll admit this I HATE what they did with the Range Rover, it looked near perfect from 03-08), sales have been strong and people keep coming back for more, and the British brands keep drawing customers from Mercedes, BMW, and Audi so they sure are making something work.
Great truck but the dealer service is horrible. I had my 2005 LR3 for over 6 years now and would buy another one but I cannot stand the Land Rover dealers service. Service is way too expensive labor and the people behind the counter and in back could care less. They once sent my truck through a car wash with a window down. Things are starting to fail on my 2005 LR3 one after another now and it is time to look for something new. Any suggestions out there I will not go back to Land Rover.
I can't agree no more with you and i currently own a 110TDI Defender...Land Rover is the best off-roader in the world, because it's the only brand that specifies on manufacturing 4x4... This is the only brand that I respect the most, Viva Land Rover !
Wassup Mattsynth!! I have a suggestion for a comparable...basically IDENTICAL substitute!! Try the Jeep Commander!! They discontinued the Commander BUT, you can find a descent one in used condition with lows miles!! Do some research on it and Pick with one is best for you!! A 3.7 V6, 4.7 Magnum V8 and a 5.7 Hemi are the options on engines and the LIMITED versions comes with more options!! I have the 4.7L and it can be thirsty but the 3.7 V6 is not that much better!! Check it out sir!!
I'm sorry for busting your balls man but land rovers are the original 4x4. Since 1948 (when they pioneered 4wd in mass production), they have proven themselves on the trail time after time, from the African deserts to the Australian Outback, to any beaten path you can think of. Yes, NATO uses Toyota land cruisers nowadays, but when you say you have a "Land Rover" everyone knows you mean business when it comes to off roading.
The LR3 may be one of the last true SUVs, too bad it'll break down about 100,000 miles before anything made in Japan. And anyone not earning a six figure salary would probably choke on the $5,000 bill for a replacement transmission, or a $8,000 bill for suspension repair, which strangely tends to occur right when the factory warranty expires. I'd rather get a dependable, and quite capable off-roader like the Acura MDX or Porsche Cayenne over a British-made, gas-guzzling clunker like the LR3.
I might have to say that the LR3 is a slightly more capable off-road SUV. The standard features between the GX470 and LR3 are just about equal, I think. Yea the GX is getting "ugly" for 2009, haha. Every car needs a remodel every 4 years or so. Look at the Porsche Cayenne. The current generation came out in 2008, and there are already videos on RU-vid about the 2010/2011 Porsche Cayenne!
I believe you are missing what I'm saying, but that's my fault and not yours. Generations of vehicles change over time, obviously meaning that the looks of the vehicles change as well and become "cooler" or more "status-y" or... yea. (Also power levels and interior amenities increase as well.) The GX470 is a 2003 vehicle, and it's beginning to just "look old".
These vehicles are great until they break then you have to sit down when you hear what the parts alone cost plus trying to get somebody that is willing to work on it is another issue i sold mine and bought a dodge durango loaded and i still paid much less and its very close to the rover i think its alot more powerful and better on gas
Rover is clearly by far is the finest SUV on the planet period!! Don't embarrass yourselves until you have owned one and driven it off road you fools!. Top speed of 162 mph they are wrong mine hit indicated 170mph and smooth and quiet like a couch on wheels. I took it across a 4 ' deep Creek in yosemite national park the whole hood was under water! Try that in a in Japan can?
@BlastDance....are you serious?? An Acura MDX over a LR3? You must not go off road much...or ever for that matter. Land Rovers have and will continue to be one of the best off road capable SUVs in the world. I'd like to see a MDX go anywhere close off road that a LR3 could go. There's a reason you see Land Rovers all over the world where people need reliable and consistent transporation and not MDX's....
@roboguy2121 trust landrovers are well put together i used to own an '06 range rover sport and it was the best car i ever owned and ofcourse it makes that noise thats just want they do but it was great and everything always worked when i needed it to, but i had to sell it because the economy had fallen and i wasnt making the money i used to make so i had to sell it thats the only down side its so damn expensive lmaoo!!
Too box-like and not attractive... the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 look a lot better, have a more powerful engine, are good at off roading, and a lot more. So take that $57,000 and get one of thoes SUVs
