I have the diesel in my HSE. It's fabulous. 28-30mpg, 600nm of torque and the twin turbo makes it smooth as. Here in Australia it gets a real workout and not so much as a rattle. It and my wife's Freelander 2 are really well built and totally reliable.

Agreed with everyone else on the review! Outstanding. My dad got his car info through a video review and on the website. 4 months later, were still loving the car! In other words, thanks to you, he made a great choice!

I don't watch many car reviews about cars I don't plan to buy or find interesting. However, I didn't even know Land Rover had a revision or a "next up" model of the L3 (which I heard wasn't great albeit I haven't done much research on the L3) yet I found this review the best thus far; It has something for everyone from the DIY mechanics/enthusiasts to the less inclined about automotives. It's not everything as it shouldn't be seeing as this is a review, not a comprehensive overview. Just right.

This was a great review. i hate the reviewers who complain about how the LR4 does on the roads and then completely ignore what the vehicle was made for. Not all vehicles are built for the same purpose. Of course an off-road oriented vehicle isn't going to do so great on the roads...

wow ... kbb really stepped up their game. and I like what the guy said in the end ... unless your one of the mabye 0.5% of us that regularly go into heavy offroading (and I really mean heavy), why not buy a "roadgoing" SUV? Especially since they're not THAT bad offroad either, even though, of course, the LR4 beats them in that area.

Don't know about the X5 as an alternative road car. Ride is really hard without that much better handling and my mate has had so many reliability issues that he calls it a BMTroubleyou!

aye, but the 3.0 litre V6 will do about 25mpg US, which is much better, but don't know if it's available in the US.

Uhhh, I'd get the Lexus because it's just as good off road, just as dull to drive, just as fast, just as nice to sit in only it won't break down every week. But awesome review!!!!! Really.

no longer has the breakdown reputation. I've had mine 4 years no problems outside normal maintenance.

I would buy this in a heartbeat if they offered it with the turbodiesel here in america. They already offer it in the UK, so it wouldn't be that hard to do....

The cayenne isn't as capable off road though, but then again it depends on how you want to use your vehicle I guess. The LR4 is the more versatile of the two however.

And for $54,000 you get the Tahoe LTZ. Personally, I think this car is worth the $50,000 base price, cause a Chevy Tahoe cost more yet doesn't have the brand class and off road technology. Also I think the Toyota Land Cruiser competes more with the Range Rover, cause both of those hold the $80,000 price tag.

Great truck but the dealer service is horrible. I had my 2005 LR3 for over 6 years now and would buy another one but I cannot stand the Land Rover dealers service. Service is way too expensive labor and the people behind the counter and in back could care less. They once sent my truck through a car wash with a window down. Things are starting to fail on my 2005 LR3 one after another now and it is time to look for something new. Any suggestions out there I will not go back to Land Rover.

@Kerickryantv If you're lucky enough to have parents/a job to pay for such a great vehicle, go for it! But I'd suggest the normal Range Rover. Its got way better suspension and way more able.

now this is an all purpose vehical, it can bring you to the mall in style, and get you girls, and when you wanna escape form your mother, and mother in law, you can take it on the road less traveled for a get away

@Kerickryantv I among others don't recommend Land Rover. If your really going to offroad, your best bet is to buy a 4x4 pickup and let a shop do the upgrades you want (perfabbly Toyota even though am not a fan).

This thing screams for a diesel engine. Better mpg, better torque etc. etc. But LR doesn't offer one in the U.S. Please, LR, make diesels available in the next generation.
