@@frediswendatayko321 if it played at her wedding, couldn’t the “but still so far” line just mean they’re not home together yet? They still have to go through a whole night of dancing before getting to go home for the first time as husband and wife.
Was I the only one who got disappointed when I saw that the original actors wasn't going to dance this song? I was so excited on the beginning, but then I felt cheated.
I felt the same when Amy didn't sang "That's how you know" in that same ceremony. When I saw someone else singing it i felt so disappointed, bcuz Enchanted was the main reason i watched the Oscars that year lol
This movie is very underrated. Amy Adams is one of my favorite actresses and the music, so close is in my top ten Disney music behind some lion king and Aladdin scores. Always cry when I hear this.
I'd agree if a Disney movie in Orginal son but Falling Slowly from Once won. Which it did deserve to win that's a good song but Disney had 3 out of the 5 nominated songs so that's saying something.
I literally watched Enchanted like three days ago and realized no one talks about this song enough in regards to “romantic Disney songs” and it makes me so salty 😂
Oh I love Jon McLaughlin - he has such an underrated voice (damn, I love those high vocals he hit). He's a classical pianist and his albums have a nice pop oriented feel to it without bordering too close to the genre. I want this song on my iPod! I wish him all the success.
He’s amazing. He went to the same tiny college as my parents (missed my brothers there by a couple years 😩) and the choir director loved him. :) I actually saw him from across the street at their homecoming in 2018!!! I was like “that guy kinda looks like Tom Cru- THAT’S JON MCLAUGHLIN” 😂❤️ a friend of mine who also went to that school has met him twice - once just a couple weeks ago. :D said he was the NICEST and they talked for like 20 mins. Such a cool, insanely talented guy. :)
This song should've won the Oscar that night. The dance scene was easily one of the most romantic Disney moments and this song totally captures it. Too bad 2 other Alan Menken pieces were also great and nominated, thus splitting the votes.
It's hilarious that there's so much effort put toward the stage production for So Close and That's How You Know, but poor Amy Adam got sent out to do Happy Working song with no background or dancers, just an empty stage and a mike.
Have always thought this performance was amazing. I met Jon by chance a couple months ago before going to his show. Really nice guy! Told him that I loved this performance and that I thought he did an amazing job. He was very humble and said he had messed up on the high note. I disagreed and told him that it was amazing and one of the best Oscars performances I had ever seen. He appreciated it, took a photo and asked if I wanted him to play a specific song that night. I asked him to play “If Only I” (one of my favorite songs in general). He said he would try, but without his band it might be hard. At the show he asked if I was there and said he would play the song, but if it didn’t go well it was my fault and for everyone to blame me (joking of course). He did an amazing performance! I cried. End of story! 😁
He's so cute I love this song even though I cry every time. This reminds me of my dad who sadly passed away in 2016. This song played at a costume ball that I went to at Disney world I was dressed up with a powder wig i love this song 10 years later
Happy to see this song finally getting a little recognition that has been much deserved 15 years later… epcots new firework show has this song and when I heard it I couldn’t stop hysterical crying! This song is absolutely AMAZING.
You're in my arms And all the world is gone The music playing on For only two So close together And when I'm with you So close to feeling alive A life goes by Romantic dreams must die So I bid mine goodbye And never knew So close was waiting, waiting here with you And now forever I know... All that I want is to hold you so close So close to reaching that famous happy end Almost believing this one's not pretend And now you're beside me, and look how far we've come So far, we are so close Oh how could I face the faceless days If I should lose you now? We're so close to reaching that famous happy end Almost believing this one's not pretend Let's go on dreaming, though we know we are So close, so close, and still so far
what an iconic song & moment. My brother & his fiancé live in orlando & they're obsessed with disney. I'm pretty sure this is boutta be their wedding song 🥰🥰
this was our wedding dance... it's a sad song, but we still went for it coz we know that my wife and I just tied the knot so heheh... we just enjoyed the song especially because it's also a Stephen Schwartz song...
Hey, you're welcome! That was one of the best gigs I've ever done. Dancing, live, on stage, in front of a full house and a billion viewers on TV...what a thrill.
Ah! I friggin knew that was him! I thought I was crazy, lol. But why did they do that? He couldn't even pronounce Idina Menzel's name properly, plus he's a whacko scientologist.
Incredible live performance. a time when technology was not so great yet, the reverb are not that great too in live performances unless lip sync. and it's easy to identify how clean singer sings in a live performance. His Voice was lovely.
