For anyone looking to see the entire project in order from start to finish, this video is for you!
It took three months from delivery to driving - mainly due to a lack of getting parts with all the supplier delays out there. It was a great project and we end this video with our lessons learned and some of the small changes we are making in the winter.
If you're considering this project, this entire video should give you an idea of the size and scope of what is needed to be done. If you're also going to use a used engine, this will give you a few helpful hints for how to refresh your motor to get the best out of it.
It's a long video for sure, so grab a cup of coffee and enjoy as we compress months of work into a couple hours of viewing!
Take care and drive safe...

Sweet project! Just finished up the 5.3 LS swap on my 996 with Chavis parts. Car is amazing. We also flipped that transmission mount to move it forward, worked great.

Awesome! Ya it’s a great swap for sure. The transmission bracket relocation is a must I’d say. Better centre balance and way more decklid clearance.

Seems like this is more and more popular swap. I have a 997 911 S that is LS3 Swapped and on twin comp 62/65 turbos all can bus done through ProEfi ECU . It's absolutely amazing and very fast car for affordable price. Can't wait to see this one done

It makes a lot of sense. I thought about doing turbo but wasn’t confident the stock transmission would handle it - plus would be getting into some mental HP numbers. Props to you for doing it!

Thanks! Ya it is a pretty awesome swap. I love Porsche, but in that 2000-2008 range if you can find a blown motor one it makes a lot of sense.

Love your videos on the Porsche/LS swap - thanks for taking the time to make & post them. Some curiosities - - Does the LS motor normally rotate in the correct direction for the swap, or did you have to work with that? - Do the standard installed Porsche radiators provide enough cooling for the LS? - Did you have any issues registering the vehicle or meeting emissions requirements? Thanks again - having owned a couple of Porsches, I think you and your sons are pioneering a worthwhile cause.

Everything works fine with the motor rotation etc. Some say the stock radiators work fine, I personally installed the Porsche 3rd radiator in the front to add some more volume of coolant. Where I am we don't have emissions standards anymore, so no problem there. Some people need to register the car in different States if you're in the US - but not sure about all that. Thanks for checking out the videos!

@@purplesprigs I personally have no experience with them so I can’t comment either way. Working with CPE was great though!

I think you did the right thing other than may be go crate in hindsight. I see you're in BC, you probably already know about Nick and the K24 option? I will say when you look at any 2008 997.1 S, they're all easily over $40k USD. At $32K USD, I think this was the right call for you to make. Also, you didn't factor in labor costs. I can only imagine how much that would have been.
@AlsopAndSons
@AlsopAndSons 8 месяцев назад
Ya I've seen the K swaps done, my only issue that I saw was it looked like a lot of hacking to get things to sit right. One car I saw done had the exhaust coming out of the bumper with holes cut in it etc - didn't want to go that crazy. The way I saw the LS swaps done it looked like the most stock finish when completed. You're right, I didn't factor that in and it would indeed pump the cost overall up. I think CPE charges around $55-60k USD all said and done with their swap cars for sale.

What does a swap like this do to the weight balance of the car. I like that the car as finished does not look altered . Well done.

LS engines aren't particularly heavy for how big they are. The LS swap on my DeLorean only added ~40 pounds.
@AlsopAndSons
@AlsopAndSons 8 месяцев назад
The LS is actually lighter than the Porsche 3.8 is - so there is a reduction. Mind you it is only about 20-30 pounds so it is nominal, but less. So overall it doesn't impact the balance of the car at all - ie handling is still great etc.

Excellent videos. Am planning to LS swap my 996 now using the CPE kit. My county requires emissions inspections. So was curious how you handled the exhaust and catalytic converters? Did you retain factory O2 sensors? TIA
@AlsopAndSons
@AlsopAndSons 16 дней назад
@@davewallen2678 thanks and good luck on your journey!! So for my car the emissions wasn’t an issue in my area and all I am running is O2 sensors after the exhaust manifolds (pre-cats) and no cats. You could easily install two cats where I did and x-pipe and install post-cat O2 sensors - which your tuner can then work with to get you into regulations. You may be able to run a tune to get approved and flash another tune after for performance - but that’s at your own legal risk. :)

Exactly like a Porsche - the LS is lighter than the Porsche engine so the handling is all the same. I didn’t change anything with the suspension etc.
