This team is so nostalgic makes me want to cry. I can smell the musty beer and little caesars smell of the joe rn while watching datsyuk go top cheese.
The 2008 Red Wings are a big part of my life. I'm a Sharks fan but thanks to the 08 Red Wings it was the first Stanley Cup I watched on TV and got me really into hockey.
there are a lot of other goalies who should get in before ozzy. mike vernon tom barrasso curtis joseph john vanbiesbrouck andy moog and mike richter all deserve to go in over osgood
I don’t see why they deserve it more or “before”. Chris Osgood had more wins and shutouts and better save % in less games than most if not all of those guys, and he was an integral part of all three Stanley cup teams he played on. Vernon and Borrasso are both in the HoF now and Osgood has more wins shutouts and championships than both.
Even though we lost in 2009, our 2008 cup is probably why we still managed to make the 2009 Finals, & why we are still respected today, especially during the rebuild. I believe Osgood should be in the HOF because of how amazing he was, especially in 2008
it is absolutely criminal that Oz isn't in the HOF yet. His stats and awards speak for themselves. 3 cups, 401 wins, couple ASG, never a losing season on any team..be it NYI, STL, or DET. In 2008 , I believe that without Oz to fall back on, the team never would have made it out of the first round. Hasek is a legend with shelves full of individual awards, but he only backstopped a team to a Cup once, in 2002. And i'm sure he knows he absolutely deserved to be pulled, and it ended up riding pine until the cup was raised, how it goes. He was BADDD. He was known to be entitled and prone to freaking out if he didn't get his way. At least that time he went along with Babs choice without incident and let Oz take over. And take over he did. Like Mac said, you just have to laugh at what so called "reporters" and "critics" say. He's not flashy, he just stops the damn puck, and that's what he gets paid for. If guys like Fuhr and Vachon are in, Osgood should be. The only thing stopping that is he has no vezina on his resume...seems to be a requirement for a goalie in the HOF. It's stupid.
...when your D line has Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Chelios, and the best all time back checkers in the history of the game...it kind of puts Osgood as average...
I grew up watching this team and am thankful i got to witness. watching them play now is just depressing. the current team needs to watch highlights from 2002-2009. they don't even try to control the puck, or set up opportunities, it's just dump and play hockey. depressing.
@@ianr3568 I agree I think we could sneak in a wild card spot but I think Raymond and Sieder need one more year to mature and develop. Also Ned has been horrendously inconsistent there’s games he looks like a top 5 goalie in the league and others he looks the worst.
it's sad Franzen was so electrifying, and Mike Babs was so mean to him. And then Franzen had to deal with so many concussions! loved watching the guy! i want an update on his health, last i heard he was struggling still, and couldn't really pick up his kids cause he was so frazzled with post concusssion symptoms.
I remember being at the 97 parade and the ceremony at Hart Plaza and I forget who the player was but he handed the Cup to the mass of Wings fans and it was getting passed around before Cup officials got it back. Awesome experience I'll never forget. We truly are Hockeytown.
"Hockey is like (now) the third priority behind my sobriety and my family. And keeping it third, makes it so much more enjoyable." What an incredible statement of self-realization. Way to go Darren McCarty.
We went to the Stanley Cup parade and wound up celebrating in Royal Oak afterwards. I accidentally ran into Datsyuk and Hudler falling out of a bar randomly. They were so hammered, only speaking Russian/Czech I didn't even bother asking for an autograph, they were having too much fun. ❤ From Detroit 🚨
@@cheesybacon1000 I was also drunk and it definitely happened sir. My phone was dead which was why I was stranded. That part wasn't in the story. Later I sat on the porch of a bank in the rain with a kid who was hopping a train to Chicago waiting for my girlfriend to pick me up. Think I could make that up? It happened son.
That was my favorite season ever. I met Mickey Redmond 10 years ago 🤣. Cut a pine tree down in his back yard.. he was behind me and I heard a voice, I thought I know that voice. Spun around. All I said was. Nice to meet you. Shook his hand and went back to work
The worst part about when I think of Detroit 2008 cup is the fact that and even better team lost the following year to Pitt. It's still devastating to think of that loss and Det hasn't been the same since, IMO
@@bugalaman Pittsburgh fan here, watched y’all win in Pittsburgh In 08 and watched all the finals games in 09 and can say it was two of the most fun series. Mad respect for you guys and I’m excited to watch your young guys grow!
The next year I had this big catering order during a certain night of the series - I took the order and it was all about to happen again and I went and dealt with that customer and came back and the Penguins had life, came back and it's all been over with ever since....
You know in the 80,90 00 red wings hockey ways above advance good enough too make the playoffs alot threw those years !!! Had hall a fame players !!! Lost too colorAdo,Anaheim, st. Louis,,San Jose ,phoenix,,Dallas, and others I can't really think but always had a great playoff series even if they never made it too the cup ,!10,20, always a contender
Man I was lucky to watch the most beautiful team in history from ‘95-‘11….those Red Wings especially peak Hall of Fame talent in ‘02-‘04 was truly a joy to watch
Having been born in 1991 this is the most special of the cups they won during my lifetime. I was an absolute avid fan from about 2006. I've always loved them but never appreciated their dominance until then, I hope those days are coming back soon!!
One hell of a run that year. Lots of great players. I wish my Oilers can have such a great run like this. We're on our way to the playoffs this year I'd love to see Connor McDavid hoist the Cup
Доброго времени суток всем!Д.Гашек сломался в той серии игр.Бесподобная игра вратаря Озгуда помогла команде одержать все победы и выиграть кубок Стенли!
New to hockey and I’ve been led here. This franchise is definitely something special and I’m intrigued👏🏼 the 2023 season just started and I’m Fs supporting🙏🏼
Leafs Fan here: I loved the Red Wings back then. Gave me something to cheer on in post season :D About we meet in a Conference Final, where both OSix Teams belong, after beating the shit out of Boston and the Rangers :D
This was such a great summer… but the next year still brings pain to my souls my exs aunt and cousins bf jinxed us all in one day I’ll never forgive em
As a die-hard red wing fan and all those others out there I'd like to ask you who is your current favorite none red wing player that's playing in the NHL right now. Mine is Alexander ovechkin because of his excitement his passion his dedication his commitment him putting 100% of his life into making himself even a half percent better is what I love about him the most, and when he won it in 2018 I was so very happy for him and I wish he goes on to win another one and another one but the one thing is I don't think he will be better than the great one I mean when you look at it Wayne Gretzky got to being the lead goal scorer in under 900 games but of course I didn't grow up watching Wayne Gretzky I'm growing up watching Alexander ovechkin but after watching highlights of Wayne Gretzky I never really seen the excitement that he had that Alexander had but maybe I'm wrong and no disrespect to Wayne Gretzky at all because I still do and will always love Wayne Gretzky. Imagine if they were able to play together with the few good players that they would need behind them, I guarantee they would win more Stanley cups than any other team any other duo that's ever played in the NHL
Even though in current day 2024 the Red Wings are a Mid Team, I still have to think to myself every time the red wings lose, don’t worry we have 11 Stanley Cups, and for that reason technically best American nhl team.😳
there's something about this team and the nostalgia that comes with it, the rivalry, the great moments. it makes watching any other hockey game feel less.
Nobody even mentions Holland and babs for giving McCarty another chance...fransen also criticizes Babcock now but whatever he was doing had fransen playing his best hockey
this series and among others is why more people should love hockey. NFL is a fucking joke advertisement plug. in an entire 3 hour NFL broadcast there is only roughly12-14 minutes of actual action. the rest is commercials and huddling
Let’s go Avs!!! Will never forgot why I’m an Avs fan! From NJ BUT When I was about 7 years old had a coach from COL who showed us videos of the Sakic hejduk Forsberg and the rest… it made me voraciously love hockey and I became a fan. I wanted to shoot like Sakic, hit like Blake, block shots like Roy made saves… It’s always interesting to me because I truly became a better hockey player watching theee guys and learning from them. I was known as the guy you don’t get angry. When I got mad I hit harder, shit faster and quicker… I remember my coach would often try to get me mad before games. 29 next month still playing hockey and I love those memories I miss those tournaments and the fun we boys had in those hotels!
Amazing memories ❤❤❤❤. I was 29. I can't wait for another lord Stanley cup. I can't stand Sidney and the penguins. 2009 😠 😡 . Redwing nation. The best American hockey team 11 cups
Ughh, seeing Mike Babcock on-screen makes me feel disgusted but I enjoyed watching the Red Wings swinging their way to glory. Rollin' in hot all season long, no game 7 in the playoffs, and beat Penguins in the Finals. Goalie Osgood was out of his mind in that postseason! As a hockey freak, I miss when the Red Wings were lethal and were in the Western Conference (understandable reason to move to Eastern). Mike Babcock, not so much.
Who thinks as good could have won the cons might trophy in 2008 or is that just me overthinking it. Don't get me wrong Hendrick zetterberg definitely did deserve becomes mine I'm just saying do you think he was at least in second place when it came to winning the Cons Smyth trophy. That wonderful left shoulder save off Sydney Crosby's backhand with literally 1.6 seconds left probably sealed the trophy for the team so I can very well see Osgood winning the con Smyth trophy. Like I said I'm not taking anything absolutely nothing away from Hendrick zetterberg because he deserved it just as much and you can very well put Johan Franz and in that picture as well but that's why you call it a team cuz it's a team effort, it's like if it wasn't for that person then that person couldn't have one the trophy and if it wasn't for the other person the other person couldn't have one the trophy that's why you got to put everybody's pride at ease when you're a coach.
