After a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Red Wings in 2008, the Penguins battled through adversity to claim the Stanley Cup against Detroit in 2009.
As a Red Wings fan, I love these two championships. Amazing to see the Pens pull it together to win the rematch. All players on both teams should be damn proud of their performances in both matchups.
The fact that Pittsburgh is tied for 6th most cups ever with (5) is amazing. Mario changed everything. He will always be my favorite athlete of all time.
The 08-09 Red Wings team was absolutely stacked. Glad the Pens were able to redeem themselves and get their revenge from what happened the year before. Let’s go Pens!
Sidney Crosby became many things that day: The Youngest Captain to win the Stanley Cup A champion A fighter A true leader The Last Captain to ever raise the Stanley Cup in Joe Louis Arena And most importantly, A winner.
Watch some of the documentaries about Mario Lemieux, that will put you over the top. He’s how this all happened. He’s one of the only athletes I truly admire.
Didn’t really break up till Staal left after the Flyers finally got some revenge on us. Idk if I hate that series more, or the Boston series the year after
I think this is my favorite Lord Stanley Championship. I think it was the hardest one to win out of 16 & 17. I watched all 3 tonight. Getting ready for a wicked spring!
@@amsh4054 Amen to that!!! Such a joke! Alot of NHL Anchors still mention that to this day! And it wouldn't surprise me if they did somehow get him in there...He's my all time favorite! But the criticism he gets is often blown way outta proportion.
Those team in the city of Champions Pittsburgh all have one thing in common, The People and Fans of the Pittsburgh, who always Believe it can happen, Lets go get another boys and yes its a great day for hockey and meet me at center ice. God Bless Pittsburgh PA,
Think they should focused more on Sid taking the puck ‘from’ Ovi at the start of the third. The Caps were so talented and they had just scored, there was a lot of hockey left. But man Sid was right there with a dagger and another nail in the coffin.
The dueling hat-tricks game is an all-time classic. Crosby’s third goal was especially nuts. Shoots, save, rebound, save, rebound out of mid-air… scores. This playoff run, in general, could not have been scripted any better. They get their arch rival in the first round, they get the era-rival in the second round, and they end up in the finals against the team that beat them the previous year. Absolute fairy tale!
I remember watching this as a pens fan in college... Detroit was so fkin scary, having won the prior year, with all those legendary players, and the all red, russian-looking uniforms
And I { Sid the Kid } Won't have that happen again!! I am a Duck fan and love Bobby Ryan but Crosby almost was a Duck... Pittsburg has so much historical amazing hockey history.
Lebby1074 I know I’ve heard it in a select few other videos... can’t remember what they were though. I’m guessing it’s a sort of “stock” song that gets used a lot in documentaries and stuff like that... I just like the way it sounds every time I hear it and am hoping just one person can tell me how to find it
@@sharkishablackberry3798 hmm that could be. On the other hand, can we say that the 2016 pens team had more experience from their star players? If we can, I'd say that older, more experienced Sid, Geno and Letang (along with Kessel, Bonino, Hagelin, shoot throw in Hornqvist too) would defeat that 2009 Pens team.
@@letsgopens5400 that’s because Gonchar was out with injury and they lost Ruutu, Laraque, Malone and Roberts all in the 2008 offseason. The Fedotenko and Satan acquisitions were ok, though.
"You don't get to enjoy anything for a while, when you play the Detroit Redwings" LOL except the past few years when they've been arguably the worst in the league probably only rivaled by the "disaster in the desert" that is the Coyotes

Complete respect to the Pens. They definitely deserve Stanley after their loss to the Red Wings the year before. But as a Wings fan, the too many men on the ice no-call was the reason we lost this series. Yes there were some great effort by Crosby and the Pens, but to me, this no-call was the 2009 equivalent of the 2018 missed PI in the NFC championship. It's legit the only call that the refs have to call (besides delay of game), even when they swallow their whistles in the playoffs. I enjoy the whistle swallowing because it brings out the best in both teams, but this is one that heavily favors a team unfairly and has to be called every single time. It's not like a little hooking or cross-checking or even multiple missed icing or offsides calls. It's called "Powerplay" for a reason and allowing a team an extra skater at THIS level is just way too disappointing on the refs part. Complete respect to the Pens. They deserve credit for capitalizing, but this series should have been Detroit.
If the too many men is the sole reason why Detroit lost, then they weren’t good enough anyways. They had more than one chance to close it out with a 3-2 lead if they were that much better it’s over in 6 yet again in Pittsburgh. Ya need better excuses
