With the 2 big cracks I now have on the top of my vent assembly I no longer have to worry about the vibration I was trying to fix. Thanks a lot. Seriously folks not worth it. Don't do this.
That's why the vent assembly and surrounding trim are found on Amazon under "often bought together." The vent is where things get hottest and the plastic gets most brittle, so it shatters. Annoying as hell, I agree. Luckily, the vent is only about twenty bucks. The trim for each side is about the same, so I can replace those parts if I want. My issue is the A/C. And it MUST be repaired, or the car is unusable in summer. I just got to the problem today: broken wire around the vent selector, as expected. Now I have to decide whether to try fixing it or replacing it. Replacing it increases the odds of my breaking something else. Joy. But the wires may be too wonky to fix. I just don't know. Tune in to find out if I pull this off. Or not.
Just wait till you have to do heater core or AC evaporator, where the only option is to take both front seats out, so you have room to move the entire dashboard to sit on the rear seat. Easy at the factory, they are amongst the first interior parts installed, and are done before windshield installation. easy 8 hours for the removal, and another 8 for installation, and hopefully you are not left with parts afterwards or a rattle.
Working on newer dashboards with all that plastic is scary. If you know some tricks as you do, then it's less scary. And if people who own this type of vehicle watch this video it won't be scary at all. :) Did I use the work "scary" enough? :)
THANKS! for this! Question: at about 6:49 in the video, you are unclipping and moving off to the side the power socket and cubby with the flip lid... Does the lower shift piece NEED to be removed first? Or will that cubby piece come out without removing the lower piece?
@@D6Spanky No problem - I figured it out. Then there was a horrific hailstorm that totalled my Corolla. I now have a different vehicle. LOVED the Corolla for about 12 years!
This is why the dislike button is needed. Following these instructions will break your top dash where the air conditioning vents are. Why there was not a close up for where those tabs were or any explanation as to the importance of removing them is beyond me.
@@D6Spanky You never mentioned to be careful with this piece nor did you get a close up of the clamps. It is a bad video and you made it worse with a lack of instruction. Hence the dislikes. I know you'll do better next time. Have a great week.
