Hi! I have a 2012 Audi a3 with the same engine as the car you're working on, but I'm having trouble removing the housing after following the steps you showed. It appears that the thermostat is stuck on the housing, and won't come out of the water pump. So I'm having trouble removing the housing. Do you have any advice for me to get the thermostat unstuck to remove the housing. (thermostat failed due to being suck open, and engine would not get up to temp)

this looks like it is going to suck so bad to change

You NEED a set of the Elkind Double ball hex L (metric). I couldn't get it out until Amazon showed up. Run a long 1/4" drive extension through the housing. Use the extension to hold the thermostat in place, while you slide the housing up.

You made this whole video just to skip how to remove the housing. I followed all of your steps and I can't even fit the tool in the area of it. Can barely touch it with my fingers

I cannot get the f'ing housing off. The one screw is impossible to get off. I have tried everything tool imaginable and this guy completely skipped over the most important part. So annoying.

So ive got a 2014 tiguan and its not blowing warm air. Im trying to figure out if its a thermostat not opening that's causing this. Also lower radiator hose isn't getting warm so i believe im right in thinking this. Great video and new subscriber.

Did you ever figure it out? I have the same exact issue with my 2013 Tiguan not blowing heat.

@kdog__ had a coolant leak and after thinking they never fixed the leak and refilling reservoir a couple of times it started working. Thinking it was an air bubble in the system that finally came out

What tool did you use to be able to take out the Allen head bolt on the thermostat housing? I couldn't find anything that would fit in that little space other than an allen wrench, and I didn't want to trust tightening that assembly with just an allen wrench.

Let me know if you solved this. Having same problem can't even fit the tool by the housing

I used an Eklind Double-Ball-Hex-L for this

@@alexgordon8225 how do you set the thermostat and o ring to not make it leak? I have done it 4 times without success.

This is actually not that bad of a job. The hardest part is the 5mm allen head bolt on the housing, but save yourself the headache and buy the metric set of the Eklind Double-Ball-Hex-L. The bolt came out for me in about 5 minutes. The hardest part was setting my light up so that I could simply see the head of the bolt. Great video! This was really helpful. Thank you Edit: You know I tried all day to get that housing to not leak after I put it back on and each time it leaked. What is the secret?
@hersheysq

Same. Been a month and a half - reinstalled 4 or 5 times. It still leaks around the gasket...!
@dakotaserna1645

I made a video addressing some of the challenges. There is an aftermarket thermostat housing that seals differently. It is made by Doorman or Murray @@hersheysq
@Allthegoodones
@Allthegoodones Год назад
Terrible information. It's not a 5mm and the clips should be left out when pushing in the hoses. You should remove this because of the misinformation

Waste of time watching the video because u skipped the hardest part of the job. Smh 👎🏿
