I own a 550i BMW and I am not sure what is the reviewer problem with iDrive, it took me less than five minutes to learn the system and once you do it is very natural and easy - my 11 year old had no difficulty at all and when on the passenger seat easily used iDrive
I know 3 people who own/owned a 5 series. 2 of which no longer have them. 1 friend had a 2001 530i, another a 2000 528i, and another a 2006 525. The older ones were good cars but they werent too exciting. and over the past year or so they were begining to have some problems so they sold them. Now, 1 has a Jeep Cherokee and the other a Chevy Suburban. My friend with the 525 still has his and its a really fun car. But Im still undecided whether i like the 5 series or the Infiniti M more though.
The most upscale M5 adds on a navigation system w/voice recognition, upgraded sound system w/traffic information, heated front seats, 18-way power driver seat, 14-way power passenger seat, and aluminum interior trim. The 528i gets to 60mph in 6.5 seconds, the 535i takes 5.8, the 550i takes 5.1, and the M5 takes just 4.4.
If you can't afford one then don't buy it, I would think that is obvious, don't go bashing the car because its too expensive for you. I love Lamborghini's but I can't afford one, does that mean I'm going to bash the car of those who can afford it, no. Also for the guy below speaking of average income, if you want to make more money then perhaps you need to put the effort forth to do so, it's not magic or luck, if you really want something then you have to work hard to get it end of story.
Its not about affording it just not being a SUCKER, Just because something is VERY EXPENSIVE like BMW doesn't make it a good QUALITY PURCHASE, in fact it's SCAM 101 to be a fool who buys anything GLITTERY & OVERPRICED that doesn't last unless you PUT MORE MONEY into it OVER & OVER again from $700 to $1,000s. BUY LEXUS QUALITY, I HAVE 3 OLDER ONES, ES, LS & RX THAT NEED NO EXPENSIVE MAINTENANCE REPAIRS saving $1,000s over the years for vacations & retirement while still driving luxury cars.
not really the sport has a body kit, lots of upgrades, m5 lights front and rear and much more options. maybe 8 years ago to save money now you want the sport loaded version
i didn't understand your comment due to so many grammar mistakes lol in the u.s., they don't make the 530i anymore. now they make the sporty 528i, the rapid 535i, the impressive 550i, and the monstrous m5 0-60mph acceleration times: 528i - 6.5 535i - 5.7 550i - 5.2 m5 - 4.5
Standard features include air conditioning w/dual-zone climate controls, cruise control, power tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel w/radio controls, interior air filter, 10-way power front seats, power front headrests, memory system, cooled compartment, and power sunroof.
Coming from a Lexus IS250 owner...I traded my car in for the 550i, man....TOTAL DIFFERENCE. I actually get excited to do errands and drive to work!!!! The drive between the two are totally different, and I've test driven the Is350 as well, but my 550i blows it out of the water in terms of handling and chassis balance. The only thing getting hard use to is the ultra senstive brakes...I mean on a scale of 1-10, the brakes are are probably a solid 9.
im in the uk, so bmw comes straight from munich germany, i currently have the e39 models, a e39 530, also m5. both great cars, 530 is now 7 years old, not a squeek or rattle from anywere, only thing i had to replace is air flow sensor. so the comment on electronics transmission, engine AC, is not true, well not in my exprience of owning bmw for the last 10 years. my dad has still got his bmw from new, a e36 318i, it has now coverd 375000 miles its on a 1993 plate. he never had any problems,

The 550i adds on leather upholstery and universal garage door opener. The most upscale M5 adds on... (next comment)
Last Friday I went to test drive a 2008 530i here in Lima Peru and I played with the famous I-Drive. It only took me a couple of minutes to understand it and modify almost everything I found without the use of any driver's manual guide or any kind of aid. This device is quite easy and idiot proof, this is a good brain exercise. If you can't figure it out, then most likely you belong in the idiotic level.
true 1st place - audi a6 2nd place - bmw 5-series 3rd place - infiniti m 4th place - lexus gs 5th place - jaguar xf 6th place - cadillac sts 7th place - acura rl 8th place - mercedes-benz e-class
Canada is the best country in the world. Filled with different cultures and colors, tastey food from different countries. I got a question is the mercedes c300 in the same class as the bmw 530i?
Then, the same fact is here, people can afford 500$ per month, and that is a top.Regardless that BMW is cheaper in USA, people, average, pays the same.
We do not have credits on the car for 10 yrs, but after recession, there's credits for 7 yrs. The fact about average people in USA is that, these people can not afford BMW. Average income is around 30-35 thousand per year, as gross. After tax and everything else, u end up around between 400-550$ per week. These numbers are rough. Way below Norwegian average income.
only things he has had to do over the years is wear and tear items, like, break disks pads, and of corse servicing. oh and suspension all new 2 years ago, springs shocks bushes. body still looks new paint still shiny not really faded. and he aint a car fan, just looks after em how a machine shud be lookd after, wen it costs him more money to repair he will get rid, but it is turning out to be the best investment ever, had his money worth anyway.
According to the BMW's financial report, you will see that BMW has lower total revenue than Mercedes. However, BMW makes way more profit than Merc. It indicates that BMW has lower cost of goods sold but sells vehicles at high price level. If you think that kind of car is the best, well..... good for you.
@jalclk1244 that would be an option, definitely but even as good as the Genesis is, it doesn't even come close to the 5 series handling or build quality. Actually, nothing in its class really does, except maybe the new A5/6 but Audi still feels about 5 years behind BMW. 20Km more is really justified when talking about the 5 series.
Otherwise, if you know what is JD power, you can go check its website. What I know is that BMW is continually under the average quality level. Last year, BMW is ranked 23 on the list, while Mercedes is 6.
oh you hate the cadillac sts? it isn't nearly my favorite either, but at least it isn't overpriced like the e-class. you would rather spend $55,000 for an e-class than $45,000 for a cadillac sts? that's tough... the only reason i put the audi a6 before the bmw is because the audi a6 has standard leather upholstery, and slightly more power but the bmw is a good car
@Spaceghost272 Get the BMW X5 because the 5 & 7 series are more for business and the X5 is more for family believe me you will enjoy BMW i have a garage and it has like 10 BMWs cause they are such great cars good luck! PS: Lexus is for old people
Yeah, thats another thing... You have to dig deep into your pockets to fix minor things. And i'm not so sure about Lexus because i dont want the gas pedal getting stuck. haha. And Acura is ok. Not as entertaining to drive I think. but thats just me, Its still enjoyable tho. I drive my friends MDX around a lot but I havnt got a chance to drive any of the cars so I don't want to make any conclusions just yet.
Your not even thinking about this logicilly. People who buy a BMW with idrive probably learned how to use it after a few hours or minutes. It is people who review cars say the Idrive is hard to use. Plus fifth gear and Top gear of the UK also claim it is a bad system. it is difficult to use if you've ever tried it, the new generation isn't bad though.
I love the look of the a6, but they raised the price on the revised a6 and it isn't a value to me anymore, but i have to say your one smart person I agree with this list accept i'd put the e-class in 6th place and the Cadillac sts in 8th, but the Mercedes is just so overpriced for its class your just paying for a symbol.
i drive a passat myself and i love it, but give me this anytime... if i could afford it i'd drive it, almost anything else on the market besides audis and a very few others is giving me a headache just by looking at em
I meant the Jaguar XF, not the XJ. The Audi A6 defeats the Audi A6, you have to admit. The E-Class sucks. There's no standard leather upholstery, and it costs like $54,000 which is more than all of the other cars.
Uhhh...90% of the ppl that own a BMW will be like : "Oh look...! a red light,no matter i'll just head on,i've got a BMW,no police will stop me...because i have a BMW !" i'm sick of that, although it is a really good car,but the ppl that are buying it...just mak me hate the car.
yeah what funny is that i am in favor of lexus...ive always liked them...but i do prefer the german engines instead of the wimpy jappinese cars...but i think the gx470 has a 5.7 liter V8...idk
well its very expensive to maintain. and german cars are known for simple problems which cost alot of money. electrical problems mainly. have you considered lexus or acura?
@tohoist Not really considering I don't even drive a BMW but an Acura! I know poor me :[ Wish I had a BMW. I like Genesis too and would definitely choose that if the prices were closer to my TSX price.
Better than the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Tying with the Lexus GS Tying with the Acura RL Tying with the Cadillac STS Worse than the Audi A6 Worse than the Infiniti M Worse than the Jaguar XK
Audi are not as good as BMW. They do have better quality materials in the interior but are nowhere near as attractive or as comfortable. They do not handle as well not do they have great steering. All Audi feel numb. Audi were way behind BMW for years and recently started catching up.
I bought a 2010 550i aclp yrs ago! It was fast an fun 🚗💨💨💨😎! But aclp months the rear-end went out, an the rear window regulators went out 😲😯🤷🤦🥴! So I traded it n for a New car! 👍😂 LoL
honestly, any infiniti, acura, and lexus drivers...your really driving a nissan, honda, and toyota with an up-scale brand name and a ridiculous price for a japanese car...even auti...A VOLKSWAGEN! My dad has the e350 4matic and i think that all the other competitors can simply not compete...the 5 can... sorry to say that...it may uppset you but its the truth...
I never did like the BMW 5 Series mainly because of those monstrosities they call headlights. My opinion the Infiniti M45 is way better but that is just me.
yea your father drives a e350 what u driving? i drive a lexus GX470 and would never trade it in for any merc or bmw. The reliability rate on japanese cars are better then german cars.
the reason you buy a BMW is the ride and handling and its best in class, and the jaguar xk doesn't even compete with the 5-series.. and trying with Acura RL and Cadillac STS?, have you been in those cars or seen there sales numbers there horrible cars.
TheHaos1 what kind of car do u have? lemme guess one of those cheap Japanese semi luxury cars right? dude if u wanna talk about ppl driving beamers r snobs... u shud try driving one.. if u can afford one that is.. its truly very fun o and all thos lexus drivers and infinitis.. are u seriously complaining?
