Sit back and watch as I clean the project 1198S, do the desmo valve check and adjustment, and replace the timing belts. You know, all the typical Ducati maintenance stuff.

No wonder it's so expensive to have your motorbike services by a shop. Great to see you posting again!

Finally a video that shows how the shims are positioned and how a 4V desmo valve command works. There are a lot of 2V videos but not 4V ones thanks. And thanks for the piston on top thing tip. I forgot that the only thing holding the valve in its place its the closing shim 😅

Awesome video. One thing to consider is to cover the oil return hole before remove the valve half rings because if you drop one it can/will go down into the engine gearbox, sump. You can put a long piece hose or similar to block the hole. Using a long piece of hose will give a visual clue to remove it for reassembly.

A couple tips while the bike is pretty much apart. replace all the leads from/to the battery with a thicker gauge, this will aid starting a lot and spare the starter sprague (which is prone to failure). Also relocate the voltage regulator, from factory they are pretty close to the exhaust system, which makes them fail over time due to the heat. I've seen some people put the voltage regulator between the front forks on the underside of the triple clamp.

I've got the thicker starter leads installed, but haven't relocated the regulator. I'll have to look into that.

This topic of valve clearance and replacing sims is far more intricate and really requires more work in explaining the procedure than what you posted. I don't think anyone can follow this video and actually perform the work themselves. I have done the work myself on a 998 and I can say you don't want to make a mistake. I advise everyone to do extensive research from many sources and come up with a plan in performing this task.

Hi Robert, you're definitely right about that. I've created a more detailed procedural video when I did it on my MTS1200: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--Njom28XQ74.html

Thank You very much for Your much worthfull explainations and demos. You're a real enthusiast and might be Your 1198 S is a tiny little bit better maintained than my 1198 SP 🤭 One little advice I may give: Befor the half rings get removed it is recommended to close the oil channel next to the valve guard. If one of those rings or anything else falls into the channel, You must open the whole engine... I always use those orange soft earplugs witch can be shaped to the right diameter and You will not forget them because of their signal color.😜

Stick a neo magnet on the valve so they dont fall in. If the valve are steel that is.

Did you put something before put the valve cover back?I put back the lower valve cover back and then it's leaking oil.
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast Год назад
You need to put a dab of RTV in the half moon corners. Make sure both the gasket and cylinder head are clean/free of oil before putting on the RTV.

Did you mix the S100 cleaner with water for cleaning the bike itself? the cleaning result is awesome, especially on the rear!

Is that straight up S100 you are spraying on it to clean? I swear by it but thought you had to use water to rinse as it is pretty powerful stuff and could stain if not rinsed. Doesn't look like you used water to rinse... just wiped off, correct?

What sort of milage has the bike done ? Your a brave man playing with that lump of Italian engineering. Have you had ducati training ?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 3 года назад
This one has just over 8000 miles. I haven't had any structured training really, just a lot of "take it apart and hopefully figure it out." All with the help of service manuals of course!

Thanks for the app for hertz. How much Is the right value for ducati? 110 hz? I had 848 streetfighter. Did you apply sylicon paste to the camshaft holder before mounting?
@PracticalEnthusiast
@PracticalEnthusiast 2 года назад
The timing belt spec is 110 hz +/- 10 hz. And yes, you must apply RTV/Silicon sealant to the sealing surfaces of the cam holder.
