I miss watching this rivalry so much. Peyton was such a smart QB. The way he never rushed that last drive. Left Brady with the least amount of time possible pretty much,

The funniest part of this game is that this was hardly even Peyton Manning's Best Performance. But he had 10 4th Qtr Comebacks in his last 24 starts prior to this one, so just Indy getting within one score made Bellichick risk it all. He respected Peyton Manning that much as a QB with the game on the line.

There's nobody Belichick respected more than Peyton. True student of the game. No QB ever ran an offense the way he did. Ever.

Manning is the only QB that gave coaches legit nightmares. He's the only one - with no ability to make plays with his legs - that defenses had to make entire game plans around. No one was better at the late drive. Brady could win 13 rings and he still wouldn't be as great of a QB as Manning was.
@86hills59
@86hills59 2 года назад
@@saltedllama2759 at the time Manning retired, I would have to agree with you. But 3 Super Bowls since he retired and you have to give him the edge because of rings and longevity. Also, brady was just as amazing at the 2 minute drill including first half. No one has more points off of 2min drives to end first half than brady.

@@86hills59 No. You see, rings are a _team_ accomplishment. They aren't used to define the legacy of an individual athlete in team sports. Longevity is also a bogus argument as Manning played from October 2006 - January 2011 with a significant neck injury which progressively got worse with each season. He never missed a start during that period. After surgery, he helped produce a great deal of success, despite the obviously diminished arm strength, from September 2012 - February 2016. He was pretty much an iron man at his position, in terms of longevity. Brady would have not lasted anywhere near as long as he has had he suffered what Manning did against the Redskins in 2006.

I was at this game. The Patriots fans had fun while ahead talking the usual bullcrap. Analytics didn't tell Bill to go for it on 4th and 2 in this game. He didn't want Manning to even touch the ball even 80 yards away with 2 min to go. When the stadium realized the Patriots weren't punting on 4th and 2 it got silent for a second or 2... then it was the loudest I've ever heard in Lucas Oil Stadium leading up to the snap! Brady should've thrown it to Moss. Guy was tackled just short by Bob Sanders backup and was short because he bobbled the ball as he was starting to get tackled so he was short once he secured it but went backwards a bit. Knew Colts were winning with 10 seconds left and boom! TD pass to Wayne as time was ticking down... inside slant! THAT'S HOW YOU THROW IT FROM THE 2 YARD LINE WILSON!!! GO COLTS!! Pats fans left the stadium faster than Bill and Brady ran off the field after choking a 17 point 4th quarter lead. Some Colts fans got up to leave when Peyton threw a pick down 13 in the 4th Q and I tried to stop them. I yelled that they will forever regret it potentially from their cars!!! It's Peyton freaking Manning at home down just 13 on SNF.

Adam Renfro: you say that Brady is better than Manning but how many rings might Peyton have if Belichick had been his coach? Eli is 2-0 vs Brady in the Super Bowl. Nick Foles (who?!) is 1-0 vs Brady in the Super Bowl. The Patriots have won six Super Bowls but they have NEVER dominated an opponent in the game. Winning by 4 points is hardly impressive. Perhaps Tom is not as great as you think he is. Joe Montana NEVER lost a Super Bowl. Terry Bradshaw NEVER lost a Super Bowl. In summation, Tom is GREAT but it is not a mortal lock that he is the GOAT of QBs. Given the same talent around him and the same coach, I’d still take Manning over Brady. I’ve been around for over sixty years and I NEVER saw a greater QB than Peyton at his brilliant best.

It doesn't matter if Brady wins 13 rings and throws for 200,000 yards into his 50's. He still isn't the best to play the QB position. Just watching him reveals that, not only isn't he in complete command, but he doesn't do the special things that guys like Peyton Manning could do. He was simply the beneficiary of better programs, a better (cheating) coach, and the NFL's need to drive WWE-like narratives these last 5 years. It all started with "The Patriot Act" signed into law as Brady gets his first start and they go on a 16 year run of brilliance. Go watch the 28-3 comeback against the Falcons again and try not to laugh at how scripted the entire game feels; from the commentators acting like Jim Ross by setting up everything that's going to happen, to the Falcons themselves not showing any sense of urgency as if they knew they were told to throw it, to the artificially inflated crowd noise of the TV feed whenever the Patriots did something (and I know it was artificially pumped in because I was at the game). Do you think it was a coincidence that Russell Wilson had 3 downs and Marshawn Lynch to go 2 yards but instead rushed to the line and threw it straight to a Patriots player? Right as he was about to enter contract negotiations to become the highest paid player, mind you. Or that Patrick Mahomes suddenly didn't know how to throw passes in this last Super Bowl, and emerged from the tunnel to start the game looking like he got the news that he is supposed to lose? Meanwhile, Brady stands 5-8 seconds in clean pockets and is somehow throwing to completely uncovered guys with more velocity than he did in his 20's; as though the other team has been told not to touch him in certain games. Defenses don't make plans around Brady, but they absolutely made plans around Manning. Coaches don't have nightmares about Brady, but they absolutely lost sleep about combating Manning psychologically. Now it's considered blasphemy to declare him as anything less than "the goat" in discussion, and they have replaced their commentators with guys who comply with the statement; despite the fact that the same guys watching these two play unquestionably declared Manning as the greatest they had ever seen. It's all bologna. The NFL has run a scripted narrative to supply us with an "unquestioned goat" for football, because there never was one like we had in basketball or boxing. It distracts people and gives them something to think about other than the world around us turning to crap. Even look at this poll: 13.5 hall of famers chose Manning, and only 2.5 chose Brady. I bet the numbers wouldn't be much different today, other than people thinking of what happened to Manning's body at the end of his career. (SIDE NOTE: Had he not suffered the bounty-driven injury at the hands of Washington in 2006, he'd still probably be healthy and putting up numbers no one could have ever touched. He hit his records far younger than Brees or Brady hit theirs.) Even in this 4th and 2 game, when it was over, the ESPN commentators all the next day were legit mad. One even said, while unable to look at the camera, "I don't feel like the better team won that game". Peyton wasn't a part of their narrative. Brady was. If anyone beats him (as Manning did the majority of the time they met in the playoffs, by the way), it frustrated the little storyline. That's the reason the NFL had to give him 5, then 6, then a 7th ring with a second team - because even with 4+, many people STILL didn't buy that he was the goat, so they had to give him what only Peyton had: rings with different teams.
