200kmh wind tested tent! First review of the Robens Sprinter 2!

Tonight I test out the latest tent from Robens. The Sprinter 2 is a budget friendly tent that can compete with the strongest and most expensive tents out there, plus has some additions that others don't.

Thanks for the review. I have a Robens Goshawk 2, 😮the quality is fantastic. The sprinter seems to be great value for the money, the wind test info on them seems a bit suspect but they do look bombproof. The HH on mine is 5/10,000mm fly/floor with a solid inner.

@johnbyrne9019 this would be so much better if available with a more solid inner. Cheers though 👍

Goshawk 2 is a really good tent, heavy but crazy strong. I've used the goshawk 2ex version for som years now. Ive seen this tent almost collapse flat to the ground by extremely heavy snow load. Nothing break, only heavily bent tent poles.

I just picked up another Decathlon MT900 (based off the MSR Elixir 2) for a multi-month bikepack, but am suddenly starting to think this Sprinter could be the tent of all our affordable dreams? Great to see people still pushing design ideas and coming up with the gold.

It's a decent design and definitely different. Love the space and weight but would be good to have more solid on the interior.

I've had the Robens Starlight 1 for a number of years, had it out in winds varying from 85 to 90mph on the side of a hill, my friends tent collapsed in the wind and after the inner had been removed from the starlight, it literally became a life saver that night. You can't go wrong with any of the Robens kit, in many respects it can and does outshine the more expensive tents ... The only area that really does need more attention is the pegs.

@wildcampingpembrokeshire a lot of people on here seem to have it in for robens but I've seen the testing and they perform well 👍

Looks great, but like all of these recent Robens, the full mesh inner is just summer only IMO. I was ready to buy one until then. Shame, solid inner with a double door and it would be magic. Great video!

Cheers Dave. I knownwhat you mean but it's fairly well protected and you can control the airflow so may not be too bad. 👍

@@NoviceWildCamper it's 4.6kgs but it's a 4 person tent. Great for two and a dog in winter and if the weight is split it's easily doable. I bought it as a winter base camp tent to be pitched in valleys that can easily accommodate two which won't blow away in poor weather. I'd not use it for solo wild camping. I think of it as a budget Hilleberg Namadj (half the price). List price for the Nordic Lynx 4 is £610. I payed £316 delivered :) .

Great review, it's intresting how tents have evolved and keep evolving. One if the strongest tents I've ever owned was the Vango Hurricane, I wish they would revive it coz it was amazing and stood up to the very worst weather.

I had the Chaser 2 tent from Robens. I bought it entirely due to their 200kph wind test claims and the third night using it it failed on me in moderate wind (50kph perhaps). Retailer eventually gave me a replacement. I asked Robens for advice on making a strong pitch should I get caught out in strong wind again, using longer pegs, adding more guy lines etc... They're answer was "using the tent in high wind voids the warranty" and refused to comment on my queries or give any advice beyond that. Given I bought it because of their boastful wind test claims, I've now sent it back for a refund. Seems to me they're making a claim they won't stand by which feels like they're misrepresenting what the product is capable of. Since managed to get a new Fjallraven abisko lite 1 (32% off due to a colour defect) and having seen what they can endure from Bushman & Blue's videos I'm much more confident Fjallraven tents won't fail in mild gusts like the Robens Chaser 2 did...

Ah, was hoping someone would review this! I’m a Robens owner and love mine. Lot of tent for not much money. The only thing with the Sprinter that concerns me for a 4 season tent is the full mesh interior, but other than that it looks great!

I really like the look and adaptability of this tent. I don't like the amount of mesh inner however and would worry it wouldn't be great on colder nights. I'm also concerned with some of the comments on here claiming theirs failed and the poor service they received from the company.
@NoviceWildCamper
@NoviceWildCamper 21 день назад
I've heard more complaints about hillebergs failing and leaking to be honest but possibly because they feel they never should. Agree on the mesh though as if it was at least half solid it would make a difference specially in this country.

Meh, comments like "you were paid, you got free stuff!" Do these people think Jeremy Clarkson was given a free Ferrari every time he drove one? I believe a young popstrel called Taylor released a song including the lyrics "Haters gonns hate, hate ,hate". Sums youtube up in my opinion. However, as a bloke the wrong side of fifty I tend to sense who seems trustworthy when watching, the fact that you don't start your vids with "WASSUP RU-vid?" has always been in your favour! Great review but too pricy for me and every time I check the X-Mid price it seems to be a little cheaper. I have absolutely no intention of being on Dartmoor in 120mph winds, but Royal Navy PLX 38 years ago taught me that Dartmoor can be your friend, but sometimes it hates you!

@russ1747 Месяц назад
Robens don't test their tents in controlled conditions in a wind tunnel. - they do it in a field with what looks like a paraglider motor and a guy holding a wind speed meter. There is no way that tent would withstand 125 mph, it would be shredded. An Expedition Super Quasar, double-poled and half buried in snow might survive, but not much else. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FT4GL2a-OV4.html

@russ1747 is a wonderful tunnel real world though? Tested from one angle and indoors? At the end of the day we all measure the wind outdoors with an anenometer the same as they do 🤷🏼‍♂️
@russ1747
@russ1747 Месяц назад
@@NoviceWildCamper Proper wind tunnel tests have the tent on a platform and rotate it. Very few manufacturers do them. The Robens test is not generating a uniform wind on the tent and is not measuring it accurately. You can't stay on your feet above 60 mph and at 125 mph you can't even crawl and are liable to get blown along the ground.
@NoviceWildCamper
@NoviceWildCamper Месяц назад
@russ1747 they don't all use a rotating tunnel though. Decathlon do but nordisk don't for example yet show their figures and because it's nordisk no one questions them. At the end of the day I can only report what the manufacturer state without creating 100mph wind to test myself.

How can you class this as a review? Used once on Shartmoor and you give it an honest review, dont make me laugh. Try using the tent for many months in many different weather conditions especially winter. There is no way this tent is surviving over 100mph. Did you even watch the video? If you did then you're just coming across as a bitter and twisted knob tbh... Or you're either blind, deaf or stupid. Maybe all 3, it's hard to tell when reading your comment. Believe it or not but Mike doesn't have the power to control the weather and make it pour down at the snap of his fingers. He was loaned the tent for one day only. He passed on all the information about the tent very clearly and professionally. And 99% of the people commenting have said how great the review is... The only one complaining is you! Says it all. Why can't someone do an honest review from Dartmoor? No reason at all, it's just more stupidity showing through. What evidence do you have that "there's no way" it will survive "over 100mph"? I'll tell you, NONE! As usual people who shout loudest have the least important thing to say. If you don't like the channel then don't watch, but once again there's the stupidity shining through.
