they're going on tour with The Contortionist in oct/sep for their juggernaught, and TC's Language album release. i'm totally fucking going. 2 great bands.
Well I am not surprised, all of their songs are really hard in terms of vocals. Especially this one. And when you're a singer you can't just practice on it endlessly until it works. Voice is the most difficult instrument to master because if you don't have proper technique you can hurt yourself irremediably. He's not doing really bad, but not good either, and he seems tired also. But we can hear his amazing abilities for sure.
I really think there is some sort of hate Spencer agenda. How many of the posters below have commented on any of the recent Icarus Lives bootlegs where Spencer fucking owns that song. The vocals on so many of these tracks are impossibly hard, and of all the Periphery singers, Spencer is by far the closest to the real deal.
So refreshing to see some guys with Axe FX processors and not Mesa Stacks, Playing the guitar instead of beating on it, an energetic but not crazed drummer, and dynamics!
periphery has changed my life !!! :) but i need to agree that this is not one of their best performances. i havent seen misha err live before this hes one of my idols !!! but every1 makes mistakes. humans after all
They are much better now and I can't wait to see them again live, go listen to a band called Goijra and listen to them live. One of the most impressive live performance I've seen,
@LorenzoBlaskhyrt Are you serious... those are amazing notes that he's hitting. Hit hits every single high that was on the recording. And he's doing it night after night on a huge tour. What more can you want from a guy...
we saw them, not the end of this tour but the tour after that with Darkest Hour in richmond which was the very last show of that tour(december), and they played a whole hour without spencer who came at the end to do jetpacks and walk. But Bulb had said he had severely strained his vocal cords back in july but had refused to quit and had to be basically mute off stage. This could be the beginning of that strain. Lol it was funny because Misha kept referring it to me as, "Throat Aids."
This guy is a really impressive vocalist but he's impractical with his live performance. No one can seamlessly transition between clean and screaming vocals. He does it pretty much better than anyone I've ever heard but the screaming really does drag his clean vocals down live.
guys keep in mind... he has no ear monitors like most bands use so that can easily throw your tone off because you cannot hear yourself as well. i know this from expirience lol give the guy some ear equipment and he would be spot on
It's amazing to see how much Spencer has improved over the years. I love periphery but his vocals here are just awful. But now I guarantee you he could hit every single note perfectly
I just love this band :-) I travel to Oslo to see them with Dream Theater in 16 days! I hope Spencer Sotelo has the best concert ever, because I don't think he is that good live.. In studio, his voice goes up like an angel and down like a wounded ox :)
fuck my life, saw them at Bristol this year and they nailed it without a doubt, one of the most under-rated metal bands right now this video doesn't do them justice but still very good
dude, they need more lights under them. i guarantee that if bulb could see his fret board, he wouldnt have missed a lick in that solo. that and they need in ear monitors. they are amazing, and i didnt think he could sing that well live, but its fuckin sick.
I seen FTM a couple times and whether it's on purpose or not but Andrew seems to butcher songs. Not sounding like shit but deciding that he just doesnt need to sing certain parts(so he can lay on the ground instead)...and its not even the parts crowds would sing with. Of the hundreds of shows I've been to...311 and Thrice are easily the most spot on, I've seen. Too bad Thrice is calling it quits.
i'm agree but i think that he wrote a too high melody in studio...if you want to do that live you have to be an athlete, and he's not. This is the problem. Great talent but not ready yet!
spencer sounds really bad on this. I love periphery so much, but he just sounds like he can sing any of the notes in this song. If he can't hear himself he shud just wear ear plugs
God, Misha has been playing these songs for how long and he can't nail that solo live? I love Periphery, on the album, but if you can't hit all the important little nuances, you need to fucking practice. Spencer does a good job, if you look at it like someone who is covering a song they didn't write... Clean up your act live or you're going to suffer with your fans. I don't much care for studio bands. Don't give me a reason not to like Periphery, polish it up.
No, he killed nothing but the notes. He was so flat it sounds like a bad high school cover band. The instrumentation was perfect but the vocals were all like a half to full step flat. He might have either been having a horrible singing night (sickness, fatigue, stress) or he just sucks. Brilliantly written and produced song though.
I'm sorry but if anyone says that those notes aren't off must be tone deaf lol Loved the album version but this sucks, If I played like this where I studied music I would get fucking slated by the tutors big time. Professional musicians need the discipline to play near perfect every time. Your only ever as good as your last show.
@Salvadorinvincible I reckon I could do a better job (than this performance) if I practiced. I do think considering what a great vocalist spence is, this performance is a bit disappointing... I regularly sing this style of music and I think this is a bit of a letdown considering how amazing they usually are live. I think Misha would probably agree with that as he's an honest guy and perfectionist who admits when they screw up. Just an off track I suppose. It is real tough to sing.
