Look friends this is what happens to the SRX if we ignore unclogging the moonroof water drains. It happened to my 2015 SRX during few days of hard rain. Water sipped in the trunk destroying the lift gate module. After watching this video and other ones about unclogging the moonroof drains , I poured oxygenated water through rear drains. After 15 minutes the tubes got unclogged without taking apart anything. See, the oxygenated water dissolved all the mess accumulated in the drains.

Great video. The tailgate in my 2010 SRX stopped working suddenly, without warning--no water anywhere. I was dreading making a day (or more) of taking it to the dealer an hour away, until I found this video. I ordered the recommended control module on Amazon and had it replaced with everything working great in about 25 minutes. No reprogramming needed. Key fob still works to open and close, just like before. The trickiest part was actually removing that foam trunk insert. I wish more repairs went this smoothly... Thank you for your video!

I just bought this same car and trunk didn’t work the lady actually left the module to fix the trunk inside without me knowing it was brand new I opened the packaging myself and just fixed the trunk using this video very helpful thank you

I had the same problem, but what is the use of putting in the new part when more water can settle back in the well and short out the new part? I drilled a small hole in the spare tire well to let the water out, so in the future it will stay dry.

This such great information. I took my car to the dealer and they wanted 2800.00 to repair this problem. Unfortunately, I'am unable to do this repair myself, but it is helpful to know that it can be done at a fraction of the cost.

That is the best video I have seen. This has been a pain especially since it is the drain hose issue cadillac won't admit to. I was told I need this programmed. I was just informed by our certified Cadillac dealer that two things that commonly break/ wear away in these cars, are not covered with my gold status manufacturer and parts warranty. Those things are middle for lift gate and the mechanism assembly for the shade/ sunroof. As for the sunroof, I can believe it because my hat stopped working during the freeze of last February. As soon as my car thawed, the hatch no longer work. Our Cadillac dealer quoted me a price of $785 and some change to replace the module + 1300 plus to fix the shade. Needless to say the shade will just have to stay the way it is. However, the module will definitely be getting replaced as soon as my car comes out of the shop.

I changed my control module and a fuse but it still is not working. Any ideas?

This happens to everybody Cadillac SRX 2010. Cadillac knows they have a default in their sunroof. The the drainage hose easily gets blocked. Then it cause water to come in your vehicle and it messes up the lift gate and other electronics.

When you started working on the back hatch did you take out the fuses and undo the battery? Also did you fix your water problem?

The dealership is charging me over 1000 to clean drains and they are drilling a small hole incase it happens again. This is the 2nd time being fixed. That's not replacing the modular.... ugh

My mothers SRX speakers also went out at the same time the tail gate stopped working. Will this fix both? If not anyone know of the usual culprit to the speakers having no sound in the SRX?

Mine is like locked it won't budge I trying the trick and everything

I can use a screwdriver to open the liftgate from the inside. (Thanks to the poster on this) It opens 3-4 inches and won't budge. I can close the liftgate. Any clues to get this liftgate up so I can work from the rear of the car to replace the module. Maybe disconnect the battery when the liftgate is popped?
