Toyota wants to use the V6 on all Tacoma/4 Runner models. The Lexus GX & LX series will be dropping the V8 s for either single or twin turbo V6s. Toyota is reducing engine sizes in order to comply with stringent future U.S. manufacturer fleet fuel economy standards.
Toyota really fucked up when they dropped the V8. I have a 2008 V8 with 240K miles that runs great and I get 20mpg i'd look for a used V8 before I bought the V6
Toyota is being forced to drop the V8, even though it’s a great engine, in order to comply with stringent future U.S. manufacturer fleet fuel economy standards. They’ll soon cancel the 4.6 V8s in the Lexus GX & LX series. The V8 is no longer available in the Lexus LS 500 sedan. The LS 500 now has a twin turbo 3.5 V6.
