WARNING ⚠️ If you own this engine GENERAL MOTORS IS BEING SUED THROUGH A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT case 1:19-cv-02858 szep v General Motors. What you describe is exactly what they’re being sued for. What I would suggest is to start making noise. This lawsuit was filed last year. I bought the GMC version of this motor less than a month ago and and hearing the same clicking sound, (having the same symptoms the class action describes). General Motors has not issued a recall, so what will you do when your 7,000 dollar engine fails prematurely? I don’t have that kind of money and likely neither do you. The only way to fix the problem seems to be to speed up the judicial process.
But you can disconnect the brake booster sensor this will fool the AFM. Run it through warm up and cool down and it will release the lifter. This worked on my 2007 Silverado. You can reconnect the sensor after the lifter is free. I have over 230k on mine still running strong
I've been a mechanic since the 1960's and I can save you plenty of money. Just add a quart of ATF to your oil and run it for a while, maybe 100 miles and it will clean all your lifters and the entire inside of your engine. Then change your oil with the proper weight oil naw a new filter. ATF is the BESt cleaner for this money can buy. Mechanics have known this for decades. The man who shared it will be used to work on model T's and Model A's. You can also add some to your fuel tank and it will clean your injectors to perform like new. Old truckers knew this and did it in their diesel engines when they got sluggish.
yes, that's true, but the only solution i've seen for stuck lifters with the dod issue is to swap out the lifters and disable dod. dumbest thing gm ever did to save for fuel.
Never waist time n money when it comes 2 this issue .. this is a common problem with this GM vehicles from 07 -2020.. bs problem with da fuel management system.. it ain’t worth a shit.. so if u wanna solve that problem 4 a few months or if u wanna fix it till it dies well .. best way 2 take care of that issue is 2 buy da delete kit n do a tune after its been installed.. N u won’t ever have that same problem.. ull love ur truck 4 ever 👍👍👍👌👌👌
My 5.3 did the exact same thing. Rocker was tight, but would not move on engine rotations. The lifter locks had failed, not collapsed. Basically the cassette was moving independently of the outer shell of lifter. Have to replace lifters.
You need to plug in your coil pack and ignition wires to the plugs, connect your air intake with the MAF connected then it will start. Truck wont start without MAF connected and half of your engine not having spark.
As soon as you hear this issue, fix it and don't continue to run it. There's a 'fix' to tap a collapsed lifter with a rod-like tool to unstick a lifter. Also try and change your oil more often than reccomended intervals. Otherwise, it's a major headache to replace lifters and possible cam damage.
Over a year now. I think someone had already done Cam and lifters in the truck before because I had felpro head gaskets. But they never turned off the afm. I unstuck the lifters blocked all the oil passages and had the computer programed to turn off the AFM, working very nice. My truck the lifter and the cam was still in very nice shape though shut it off as soon as it had stuck.
Everyone's situation may not be the same but it worked very well for mine. Best thing to do if you have one of these trucks is just turn off the AFM before you have a problem, run good quality synthetic oil and a good quality oil filter like Wix.
I had the same problem with my 2011 escalade 6.2. It’s a common failure with the lifter. It’s most common on the passenger side, I think cyl #4 and #6 the most common ones. There are a lot of tricks on how to get the lifter unstuck, but they’re all very time consuming without any high rate % success. I’m just ended up taking the passenger side engine apart and replaced all the lifters at once.
@@kaiberry5502 You can buy a plug in device to deactivate it, or GM tuners can go in your truck computer and turn it off. I sent my ecm off to be reprogrammed, was $50. My truck has been running great for two years after unsticking the lifters.
@@susandavis5833 ,Curious,,i am going to have to do this,,,release lifter, Is your 5.3l sounding good now,,,no ticks/knocks. Am looking at buying this 2010 Suburban 183k miles, this way,It has almost a knocking sound more than a 'ticking' sound. Thanks

@@brcisna I drove it for some errands and had no trouble. It does tick when I crank it but goes away quick. I think that is just worn rings though. Mine was a tapping sound not a knock. I would watch all the crazed performance videos on it. Guy is expert on the stuck lifter.
I have a noise coming from engine ticking or tapping, misfire #6 replaced wires ,plugs ,coil doesn’t appear to be the issue I hope I don’t got this problem
Is there anyone in central / Southern California that can help me with my Yukon lifter issue. First it was oil pressure sensor gauge . Now lifter with misfire on 7 now Stabiltrak coming on now too I love this car and it ran so strong .. new wheels and tires… last oil change and I’m looking at in my driveway everyday now. Dealer says 10k for a new motor.
Amf is junk, my 13 collapsed a lifter around 90k miles. Lucky it was a warrenty claim because it was over 2g at dealer to replace them. At 120k started using lots of oil. I traded the truck in for a new trailboss. It has amf but I will get the range amf delete module.
Only asking here, not my opinion. Would using Seafoam or a similar engine cleaner on a high mileage engine run the risk of a glob of sludge breaking free and clogging filter and/or the oil return?
@@jayrob11777 do you have a video of you changing the lifters? I could use a reference video showing all the details. If not so you know of one you can link?
@@tste8361 I didnt record video as that would of taken to long lol. there is one video of a guy that changing lifters on a Tahoe that you can search for, same engine 5.3. I downloaded manual or should say subscribed to Haynes and printed out sections I needed. lifter kit comes with all new bolts except exhaust manifold bolts. everything is in reverse from removal. the most important thing is torque specs. I soaked new lifters in oil for a day and make sure you use assembly lube. I really cleaned my heads good while I had them out. the only thing I can say after that I wish I did was buy the straight 8 volm plate rather than put afm one back, and I wish I would of changed oil pressure sender unit when I replaced lifters. it went out 2 days after I was done. and really hard to get to after. overall it really isnt as hard as you think. more time consuming than anything. it took me about 8 hours of videos and about 36 hours to complete, but I also deep cleaned my heads which wouldn't of happened from mechanic. dealership called for 19 to 26 hours. so at 36 I'm happy. dont use cheap torque wrench as I stripped hole had to drill and use helicoil to repair. I bought digital torque wrench from lowes for 2 something
These trucks are garbage. Mine is a 2015 with 100,000 miles. GM cannot diagnose it correctly. First was spark plugs. Then coils. Then injectors. Then fuel pump. Then fuel Rails. Now it’s lifters after spending 4,000 on repair
Who told you it was all those things they should have told you it was the lifter those are very common problem never take that car to that mechanic again ride a bad review spread the word that makes me mad
Lol watching you talk all the wrong words.....its not a motor it is a engine.....you probably call the refrigerant in the truck freon......lamo its r134a
