2010 Civic LX-S Manual Long Term Review - Peak Simplicity

One of the most reliable and economical daily drivers you can buy. The 8th generation civic LX Sport with 5 speed manual was simplicity at its finest. This car was my daily driver from 2015-2023 and never let me down. I ended up selling and replacing with a 2023 Civic Sport Hatchback Manual. If corrosion was not a concern living in NY, i have no doubts this car would have taken me to 300-400K+ miles without issue.

All - Apologies about the wavy and strange behavior of the footage in this video. Overall poor quality. The stabilization of the clips got real messed up and there was no way to correct it further post processing. This mistake will not happen again!

Don't sell yourself short man! This was right up there with Topher/Tedward content in my opinion. Looking forward to some future videos!

This is one small Hondas. Honda does not make cars like this anymore. I own a 1997 Del Sol Si with 220,000 miles ! It still runs great. I am an original owner!

8th gen are just wonderful cars. I had a brand new 2008 Civic SI for 3 years In 2015, I buyed another SI 2006 and had it for 5 years. Still miss that car Last spring, I sold my 2020 TLX A-Spec and had to wait almost 2 months for my new car My dad have a 2007 civic lx that he lent me Dropping from a 50k Acura to a 2k old 8th gen, it bring me so much memories from my 8th gen days The transmission is just great. Even cold, the car and the transmission are always the same No drama, just hop in and drive Simple car, efficiency I wish I could find one with no rust

There is just something special about how simple it is and how well they work. I wish I could find one without rust as well, living in NY and having 13 winters on this one, rust was settling in

the 8th gen civic is still far ahead of its time i wish i could buy an FD2 here in the US but that's a ways away id also love for you to review a Fit- similar level of engineering brilliance in a cheaper/smaller car

Fits are awesome but I was always more drawn to the 8th civic though, I think it’s much better looking. Interior and exterior

I have an 11th generation Sport Hatchback with the 6MT. But I still find videos on this car entertaining. Obviously I like your 11th generation content. Do you plan to ever tow your utility trailer with your 11th gen? Oddly enough, I think some towing videos would be highly entertaining. I also have a hitch on mine and pull a small 5X8 utility trailer with mine. Overall I like your channel content. Keep up the good work! And thank you for sharing.

Love it. Really enjoyed the ride along. Design still looks crisp. Responsible maintenance. Bulletproof engine. Functional chassis upgrades. And no rice. Bravo. In terms of 1. NVH/refinement 2. Ride quality 3. Acceleration 4. Shifter feel 5. Handling 6. Overall fun factor, how does it compare to your new hatchback?
@NAUS2K
@NAUS2K 7 месяцев назад
1) 2023 has a quieter ride and feels significantly more refined 2) ride quality in the 2023 is also better, but you can feel the weight gain and as a result, the car is less playful in the turns. 3) 2023 feels much stronger throughout the rev range. 6 speed means shorter ratios between gears, and this k20 has Vtc and true I-vtec on the intake cam, the R18 had neither. 4) Shifter feel is good in both but felt more “clicky” into gear in the 8thgen. I’m gonna have to go 8thgen on this one. 5) the way my 2010 was setup with the HFP suspension and Si rear sway bar made it handle significantly better than the stock 2023 sport. However stock vs stock I’d say the 2023 had a slight edge due to the wider tires, low profile wheels, and bigger sway bars. 6) overall fun factor I’d say the way this car was setup was more fun than the 2023. At 2600 lbs , it was a joy on the backroads to work. Despite the less engaging engine, I’d say it was still more fun to daily.

I have an 2003 LX with a manual transmission and 230 000 miles (so a 7th gen, the previous model), and while I was driving admittedly way too fast on a deserted highway on a long road trip, the 4th cylinder decided it was time to leave and the car started throwing a flashing engine light at me. However the car still ran and drove and after trying to replace the coilpacks in a vain attempt at repair a local shop at the town I ended up in informed me that Cylinder no.4 was well and truly dead (no compression whatsoever). However I was still over 900 miles from home with a bunch of my stuff packed in the car. And the car still ran, despite idling very rough and having a general lack of power. So I decided to chance it home, and it ran all the way virtually nonstop (I needed a nap), at 70+ mph all the way except up hills, where the lack of power meant anything steeper than 5% slowed me to about 45 mph in 3rd gear. Hard to argue with a car that can still keep on kicking on 3/4ths of itself for over 900 miles of nonstop driving. Especially when it probably would have continued to function mostly normally (it burned oil) if I hadn't been pushing it trying to speed through the night. I will probably end up replacing the engine. Hopefully I can find a donor engine and someone willing to do the work.

This engine doesn’t sound bad in the high rpms at all! Very refined sound. You should hear some of the non-Honda 4-cylinder engines; they sound like they are screaming for their lives when revved out. Perhaps future videos like a walkaround and POV no talking drive on your 8th gen?

Mine is 8th gen sport hatchback eu model 2007. Only had to change DPF once and wish it had input for bluetooth. I was thinking of buying a newer civic but your reviews and comparaison makes me think twice. If you have driven 8th gen diesel, how does the diesel compare to the petrol ? Love your objectivity and honest reviews. Sound quality is good though it doesn't really matter with your very good content

Thanks for sharing this video. My 2010 is an exl coupe so I have leather seats and the "premium" stereo but other than that it's basically the same as yours. I've changed the clutch fluid once and the transmission fluid twice and it still shifts like butter. After owning it for 6 years I still really enjoy driving it and detailing it, which I did yesterday. Totally agree about the the leather wheel and dash layout, I also like the heads up speedo and gauges. I also tow with mine, a utility trailer and a fibreglass teardrop camper that weighs 600 lbs so I like having an actual temperature gauge. I really dislike that the new civics omit the heat gauge. Do you plan on keeping this car or will you install a hitch on the new civic? I have lots of garage space now so I'm keeping mine, until one of my kids needs a car, and learns to drive manual, lol!

This video was actually filmed back in may, I just haven’t had a chance to post it. I sold the car in July. I do miss it and how raw it was. My new 2023 has had a bunch of issues already less than a year old. I do plan to put a hitch on the new civic, probably in the spring. Thanks for the comment!

I have an ‘06 EX with an AT. Love it, and still runs great and looks great after 190K miles. Obviously it doesn’t have a ton of power, but definitely gets the job done for commuting. How did you know yours needed a valve adjustment and did you follow a guide to do the adjustment yourself?
@NAUS2K
@NAUS2K 7 месяцев назад
Generally it’s recommended every 100k to get them back into spec, mine were very close to perfect though, Minor adjustments and a new valve cover gasket. Plenty of RU-vid videos on how to do it, just need some feeler gauges and an adjustment tool for ease.

New Civic does not shift so smoothly at all. Need to be very precise to get into gear😢. And speeds are not aligned in a straight line, when shifting 1-2, 3-4, 5-6.

I own the same car, a 2009 model, manual trans with so called full-option of that time, and I must say its a gem of a machine, although recelty I have got into a problem, the engine got overheated due to bad radiator, now its fixed, but it misfires during start-up for like 20mins, no matter what I do, drive or not but it will take 20mins, I have changed the coils, plugs etc but this problem remains. any ideas on what might be the issue?

Do you know if these manuals have vtec or is that only with autos?
@NAUS2K
@NAUS2K 7 месяцев назад
Both cars have the same R18 engine. This engine does have a vtec system but it’s the opposite of a performance adder. Vtec in these engines is actually ON on the lower rpm (below 3500) which reduces compression and saves fuel. Vtec turns off in the higher RPM to run on the regular profile cam.

I sold it on the factory 16” wheels, I think it was a fair deal. The 200k+ miles scared a lot of people away. The first one who actually showed up to look at it bought it instantly because it’s in better condition than most other 8th gen’s with less than 100k miles
