Brilliant Eric. Thank you. I thank God for men with ingenuity. I did the same thing you did. I bought a pair from China only to find out that I needed to buy a kit would provide me a code and it came with a cable to hook up under the dashboard. I said, “there’s got to be another way. Eventually, I found your video. It worked beautifully. Thanks again. Jim
Thank You Thank You. I ordered 2 new Key Fobs and Locksmith wanted to charge me $65.00 a key to program. Found your video and BOOM they work. AGAIN thank you very much.
Thank you very much for this video. You saved me so much money. Those dealerships are price gouging like crazy. Over four hundred dollars for a ney key fob and programming. Wtf are they thinking.
THANK YOU SO MUCH ERIC FOR TAKING THE TIME & SAVING US ALL THE EXPENSE OF GOING TO A LOCKSMITH TO REPROGRAM OUR OLD KEYFOB. AFTER VIEWING YOUR VIDEO IT TOOK ME LESS THAN 10 MIN TO CHANGE & TEST THE 2 NEW FOBS AS I FOLLOWED YOUR INSTRUCTIONS TO THE TEE. THX AGAIN & GOD BLESS!
Thanks! My issue wasn’t the same as yours.. but.. you taking the clicker off & installing new.. helped me.. there’s a small piece of suction cup looking piece of plastic that goes over those buttons.. I lost one so I removed the panic button plastic suction & moved it to my door locks.. worked!!
Thank you for the video I end up taking mine apart like you said, and I only had two buttons that they were moved in and different position. Find out that there were 3 but one was overlapping lol. Did some rubber alcohol cleaning, reposition and use scotch tape over it, go test it
I did the same thing, just swap out the circuit board and old key with the ones from the new fob, I didn't think about using tape though. Good job for your tip.
Thank you for the explanation! Just one of my buttons wasn't working. When I opened it, one of the metal buttons fell out, so that was my problem. I just taped it back on, and its working now. Very happy :)
Same here. I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and the buttons are glued to the rubber cover. My lock button stopped working and when I opened it up, the utton fell out. Saw other videos where they used an adhesive to glue the button back on but, since I didn't have any glue that would work for this, I just taped the loose button back in place and everything works perfectly. Thanks again Eric for the video.
That was very helpful, thank you. I didn't do what you did, but seeing the interior components of your new FOBIK made me realize what was wrong with mine. By the time I had any need to open my FOBIK, the button pad discs were completely black and I didn't realize that was dirt; I thought that's just how they were made (the grime was *that* uniform). When I saw your shiny, silver discs I realized mine were so dirty that they couldn't complete the circuit anymore. I cleaned the discs with acetone and Q-Tips until they were like new and what do you know? The FOBIK worked perfectly again!
Thank you sir! This was awesome and saved me some money and a lot of time. Housing did not work for me so I just used my old housing which I like better anyway because it has the Ram logo on the back. Thanks again! Awesome job on the video.
Or, you can get AlfaOBD and a compatible OBD2 module, and you can program as many key fobs as you like. You can also activate the NAV system, the factory alarm and a host of other things. Total cost for the AlfaOBD and OBD2 is about $120. Activating the NAV system alone saves you $600, and I believe that the dealer wanted the same amount to activate the factory alarm.
Worked like a charm. although I was worried that the key may lose programming when you take off battery from circuit board. I he got only one key. is there a way to duplicate the key without going to dealership
I have the same year model and my fob went on the fritz (seriously thought my truck had a ghost....the windows kept rolling down and the horn was always honking). Realized it was the silver buttons moving around causing the rubber top to become really sensitive and my pocket was actually causing all of the nonsense. The fob is now completely dead (no ghost either) and I'm getting really tired of taking the key out to unlock my truck every time. The entire fob is in one piece, so will this work for mine? I'm assuming I just need new silver buttons, but before I order something I just want to be sure. Thanks for the help!
As long as the key fob looks the same I will say yes. Otherwise I would have to see the key fob. Or you can open your key fob a inspect it to see if this video can assist.
Hey, I was wondering if you could tell me how to fix the circuit board. I have a Jeep Cherokee. The back of the circuit the long dark grey looking thing is dislodged from the circuit board can I use tape or glue to fix it?
Let’s not forget that the guy actually doing the work probably makes about 10 bucks to program your key. The dealership charges $100 an hour they normally charge a half hour to program a key which comes to $50. That does not mean the guy doing it as making out like a bandit.
I took my old one out and all but one of the buttons were there and that one button was loose setting in the plastic part. The new one I got didn't have any buttons. Am I missing something here? I'm a little confused. Oh, and I actually ordered mine from Dodge :/ Okay, my buttons were actually in the underside of the rubber part of the fob. Put my old board in there and notta. Any suggestions??
If the green keyboard or the buttons are actually damaged then this procedure will not work. the green keyboard with the buttons must not be damaged in order for this procedure to work.
I suggest looking at the green keyboard in the buttons very close to make sure that there's no crack in any of the board or the buttons or the signal paths in the board. Otherwise you are stuck having them reprogram your key.
That would depend on the code that will appear when checking the computer through the obd2 port. You can have your dealer or parts store give you the information. If you're not experienced in that, the best method if you want to Dodge a dealer...play on words.... Is to get the code through a parts store computer and research the code yourself. It will point out where you need to diagnose. It does not point out what to replace. This is where people waist money. If it gives a code for alternator, it does not mean to change the alternator. It means to diagnose the circuit to find the problem. This will be the same with the key fob. If for some reason you tried to program a key on your own and failed it can set off the security block. Kinda like logging into a computer too many times will lock you out. Hope that helps.
Sometimes that's hard to tell. But if you have all new parts except the circuit board that's clue #1. A Crack or damage to the board is clue #2. Outside of that it basically works or it doesn't. Can you be more specific if you are having issues?
@@Deadstorage well it stopped working like a month ago and at first I thought it was the batteries but then I replaced the batteries and same thing so I dont know if it's just not making good contact when I push the button or if the circuit board is bad but I haven't got any new parts for to be honest!
@@Deadstorage yes I have but i dont know anything about it but hey thanks for the help and time man I might just end up paying to twofucking hundred dollars they want me to pay 😏
@@hazoleos5325 hard to help if I can't see what's happening. There is no way to test the microchip on the board unless you know you have a good battery. If you have a good battery it should do something. If it's not doing anything. Check the battery connection. Make sure there is nothing blocking the connection
I took mine apart cleaned it really good. Then I took aluminum foil, put it over the circle of wash one. Put a new battery in it. And it worked. But I just dropped it and now it’s acting up. SMH
Mine were glued as well. I had 2 fobs and on each when I replaced the battery the switch glued to the rubber for my remote start fell out. There are so small and clear that they were impossible to find. I finally did exactly what the guy in the video did. Ordered 2 new fobs for 25 bucks. Cut the taped switches out of the new fob and carefully placed 1 switch each on the chip where the remote circle.was. worked like a charm. Saved 300 bucks
