I bought the 3.8 version in black about a month ago to keep miles off of my '08 M3. Overall, this car is the real deal. The only thing that I have a gripe about is the gearbox. It's not as smooth as I'd hoped it would be, but do not let that detour you from owning one of these. In my opinion, no other maker has been able to touch it's quality for the price.
My point is that Hyundai not only has the styling to compete with Japanese brands but also their styling is increasingly getting ahead of Japanese competitors. I am excited about future products from Hyundai. Honda styling reminds me of Toyota thesedays.
@shmikens no its not, genesis coupe is a rwd sports car based off the genesis sedan platform. Tiburon is completely separate design getting its own replacement aimed at gas efficiency yet still sporty, i believe its in prototype now under the velostar name.
He says the color is exclusive for the V6 Track version... I tested an Interlagos Yellow 2.0T just yesterday... automatic too, which sucked, but it's the only demo car they had, and I was quite surprised on how it pulled and how it handled... I think the Koreans are doing a superb job. Kudos to them! I love this car, I really want to get it.
This car is great, FOR THE PRICE. Honestly, all side-by-side comparisons it has lost, but for the money it is GREAT! Without trying to compare it across the board to other proven cars it comes up short, but there's nothing better out there for the money. It reminds me of when the Gen 4 Eclipse came out, but better. It's quick, looks cool and has some power, not as much but plenty to have fun with.
@drummerguy1989 I drove the base 2.0T auto and the 3.8 Track in manual. The brakes in the non-track/R-spec models are quite poor and have a very wooden pedal feel, the 5 spd. slushbox in the 2.0T is slow, doesn't downshift well, and doesn't engine brake well. The 3.8 Track was better in many ways but still felt like a sporty car disguised as an Accord (unless you thrashed it), rather than a sporty car pretending to be sportier than it really is (i.e. typical, fun sporty car).
I test drove a 2.0T 6-M with a friend, and even though it is put to shame by the MazdaSpeed 3 6-M that we also test drove on the same lot... it is still a well balanced car. Brakes are less responsive than the speed3 and the 210HP verses the speed3's 263HP are very noticeable. The price point on these cars I think is very handsome. $25k for the 3.8 6-M is a great starting point. I wish they would have had one on the lot to drive just to make a comparison. IMO either car is money well spent!
@Texarmageddon The C5's are probably going to be your best price:performance pick... very fast cars. If you're wanting to say new, though, see if any dealers near you still have '09 RX-8's on the lot because the ones near me are trying to push the Touring models at $25k OTD. It's not a super fast car, but it's certainly tons of fun to drive (at least worth looking at and test driving, especially if you were considering the GC 2.0T). Would have to be the manual, though.
@LonewolfSaichi Other reviews have showed that the paddle shifters dont shift as fast as other competiton cars such as: 370Z, G37, etc. However I never heard of any actual problems with them like not working.
While it may be okay for the price, the base models aren't impressive at all & the track models are expensive for what you get--the R-Spec makes for a good trade-off, though. However, what really kills the GC is when you start looking at lightly used sports cars... you can get nice E46 M3's, C5 Z06's, etc. for Genesis Coupe money.
Oh easily. The turbo used in the 2.0T is universal with Mitsubishi and Daimler Chrysler. It's the exact same turbo that;'s used in the Evo X, but a diff. computer is used. Once that first autoshop cracks that comp. It's Over. 300-'5'00hp
Well, its was meant to pit against the sedan/coupe conversions of honda, toyota, and nissan. With a starting base of 25k it beat all except for the infiniti and 335i. The car just happened to be compared to the 370z, mustang, camaro, chally, sti, evo. hyundai officials made it clear who they were aiming for and the cars you mentioned were on their list. Basically, long story short Accord coupe vs 370z, mustang, camaro, challenger, but still people buy the accord even though they are worse.
I'm actually considering on getting one of these...looks really nice. i hear though that there are problems with the paddle shifters, that it still shifts for you when you hit the higher rpms. Is this true?
Well, I don't know about the c5 z06's, but i Do know C5s are about as low as the base 2.0 genesis. I was all go for the genesis until I how many c5's are reaching a low price.
i'm not going to bash you on your opinion but i wanted to point out that it's hard to compare to two cars as the Lancer Ralliart is an AWD vehicle who's only competitor is the Subaru WRX, which IMO actually out performs the Lancer. Lastly, I'm very hesitant to get anything by Mitsubishi since they are a subsidiary of Chrysler and their reliability isn't the most pristine. At least Hyundai has a 10 year warranty.
thats what everyone said. so someone photoshoped 3 different possible styles, everyone ended agreeing that the current style best fits the rest of the car.
Why don't you guys just accept the fact some people are more fortunate than others, did we ask are parents to ever be successful and offer their kids the best?? No. Its the way we grew up and the life style your accommodated to living, i can appreciate the fact that many people cant afford luxury cars and I'm not inferring your poor if you don't have a luxury car. Just at least accept the fact that if you cant afford one don't bring out conclusions to make yourself feel better on not having one.
Your going to complain about a cd player.. the camaro is a great deal for what you get, especially a covette 6.2 v8 that gets you around 25mpg. Mustang is the fastest selling sports car, and dodge.. Im not to much a fan of but it looks great!
Being an "affordable sports car", I think it's a good choice for the price. I want one. You're right, it's not a Porsche, but it's much closer to a Porsche than to a "traditional" Hyundai. ;)
Understand I ain't hating. Instead I talk the truth. In their stock forms the Mustang is a tiny bit better. Still the Genesis is a great car. I actually like it! The more people point out how the Mustangs lack of an independent rear suspension hurts it, in light of less expensive competitors, the more likely Ford is to fix the Achilles heel of their pony car. That said bravo Hyundai. Never forget competition always improves the breed.
You're a know it all. I think you refer to the final gearing as being the Ford 8" or 9." These final drive gears can and do carry over to independent rear end setups. It was common, during the late '80's and early '90's to retrofit a Jaguar IRS on custom hot rods and muscle cars. Of course the Jag rear ends at the time could not handle the torque so Ford 9" gears were often swapped into the Jag pumpkin. I owned and turned wrenches on a '66 Mustang and the 2010's live axle setup is different.

Outside, one of the best looking cars you'd ever want to look at, inside, not so much generic seats, steering wheel peals, center console scratches up way to easy, like my 2012 Ford Escape was when I bought it. And just pretty meh overall. Though it looks decent, I think they could have done a much better job in this area. had a 2006 Tiburon and the inside seemed a lot nicer. imo. Just no power from the car ha.
The Genesis is a great alternative and great quality/vaule, it's just annoying to see Genesis owners calling them G37 killers, talk about a JOKE! It's cool but people in general are delusional. It's great but when I hear people down talking cars taht do 0-60 in 4.6 seconds while pulling .99G, then that's delusional. All cars are great in their perspective field. And the Genesis is great in terms of value! I may even buy one as a weekend toy in a few years after they deflate a bit.
i know what you're saying its just from my recollection the last gen mustang's were 4.7 at least the cobra's were. civics in my opinion however, are highly over-rated and were just another bandwagon car..until people wised up...but honestly for around $25 fully loaded you really can't beat it's performance I mean even the over-rated Honda accord are going for about $30 now, and civics are steadily getting into the $20's

And yes people are flipping, if you have the money you invest in around a $300,000+ property flip it to a minimum so you don't over spend more then what you will offer the house for at the end. My parents have adapted to the economy and we may not be getting $100,000 or $200,000 back like we use to before the recession but my parent are pulling in 50k to 90k on single property's at a time. And i really don't care if you don't believe i have an Infiniti coupe, i love it but its just a car.
I am certain that if I look up almost any source that tested both cars the results will be similar different numbers but the same outcome. Then you say those are American magazines and they are biased. Then I point out how those same resources routinely rank the 370Z as better than the Mustang. TBC
accordwhippa- I respect your opinion about this car but I think you are in the minority. I've gotten many compliments on the looks of my black 3.8 and have caught a few ohers on the road rubber-necking to catch a glimpse as well. What cars do you think the design of the Gen Coupe "rips off"? BTW, I like the Accord Coupe too. That's a sharp vehicle.
How is it more sporty than the Mustang? The Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track delivered a .87 skid pad, and 68.2 mph slalom speed. Compare that to the 2010 Mustang GT's 0.91g skidpad, and 68.4 mph Slalom speed. God that live axle hurts the Mustang. Still the numbers are too close, and in the Mustang GT's favor, to say that the Genesis is sportier. Note all numbers come from Edmunds Inside Line.
the genesis is the step in the right direction, its just the guy trying to sell it is a straight up knob, he has no appeal to anyone looking for a proper sports car, he reflects badly on hyundai and more important relects what was probably a very poxy development process by hyundai.
1. z is two seats and 10k more mustang V6 200 hp , gen coupe V6 300 hp and of course, gen coupe is faster 2. it looks like Tiburon dont u think? maybe G coupe copyed Tiburon. i dont knoe 3. and which company makes more reliable cars than hyundai? are you saying nissan?
.... ?? Just about every performace car comes with paddle shifters. If you don't want it you can opt for a manual. Second rear fold down seats are for people to lazy to open the trunk or if someone is sitting in the back they can just open that and bam! its the trunk. You act like you haven't seen a RWD driven on snow before. He isn't talking about racing, but traveling to a ski resort.
lets see, 3.8 track goes for 30,000...370 and sti go for between 38 and 40k....so take the hyundai and put the extra 8-10k in the engine and get twice the car...do the research and you'll know the car is worth the money
@singrgurl1 It's a sports car. A coupe will have bad safety ratings unless you're driving a Mercedes-Benz CLK. What do you expect when a Coupe drives in snow? Or when it gets in a crash? XD
Well c'mon its the genesis coupe first year. They need to improve alot, but eventually they will be better than the Nissan Z....I dont know about the STI or the EVO, because those are rally cars, and the Genesis coupe is not a rally car...
It still look kind of cheap The problem i find out while testing it in the dealership is that this is not really aggressive sport car. One of the reasons is the soft suspension. Taking under consideration the depreciation of all Hyundai's this is really bad bad investment. I prefer g37 or the Mustang even the Camaro
I could make that ignorant comment, but thats not my type of personality. Look, i understand you think the car is bad. Also, i understand you're trying to make sure people understand which would be a better buy. I'll drop the argument because its pretty obvious we could argue about this all day. Let's put it this way. When driving on the highway we know nothing about other peoples cars and can be modded to a differnt level than ours. Well face a lost one day whether we like it or not.
