The red-hot Packers go on the road to frigid Soldier Field to face the Bears, in only the second playoff game ever between these historic rivals. *Apologies for subpar quality; I have an HD version but RU-vid blocks it.
This Packer team was just completely on fire for the title run. Came out of nowhere, .barely made the playoffs and were the Superbowl favorites by the time they got there, then didn't disappoint against an absolutely stacked Steelers squad. One of the great post season runs in NFL history.
Truth be told they benefited from playing a banged up Steeler team who suffered major injuries to key starters in their playoff wins over the Jets and Ravens (who were two very physical teams that year). They lost Pouncey, Aaron Smith and Ben broke his foot in the second half of Jets AFCC game. Troy P played with a pulled groin which was injured during the Ravens game. Not making excuses as the Packers won that game but those injuries certainly played a big part and was horrible timing for the Steelers.
@@zachmiller3610 Yeah they had alot of injuries also but I thought it was like 7 or 8 from offense and defense combined? Regardless the Packers defense was one of the worst defenses in the league (26 of 32) that year and the Steelers were in the top 5 and Aaron Smith and Troy P were big reasons why. Troy not being able to run like Troy is a big reason they got carved up by Rodgers and Nelson in particular. He was a step behind nearly the whole game. But that's football.
Not a Packers fan but damn what a team this was. Can't believe it's been 8 years since this playoff run. For me the best #6 seed team to win the Super Bowl
Agree the 2010 Packers never trailed by more than 7 points on the regular season and they were totally a deceptive 6th seed that could beat any team. They were even close of beating the Patriots in Foxbrough without Rodgers and they were 14 and 2 with one of the best Brady years.
@@IanMalcolm-rw5pn i give credit where its due cause 05 Steelers were the first 6th seed to go all the way. 10 Packers were so deceiving in my opinion.
@@djeanpierre- You haven't done anything with your current talent, exactly like all the last talent you've had, squandered/wasted. Duh Bares still suck.
@@TheNerdyGuy69 yeah whatever you say but when you guys were on top how much success did you have? Oh thats right you guys didnt do shit in thebpast decade in the playoffs
One of the best playoff games purely because of the rivalry. I get there are better games from statistical and emotional standpoints, but nothing beats a rivalry game for a trip to the Super bowl.
This game reminded me of Bear games in the 80s where we'd routinely see 2 or 3 bad QBs get the call on a weekly basis, all while the defense kept the team in the game. Sickening.
I was at this game. Only Packer fan in my section. Second best day of my life! First came a few weeks later when the GB beat Pittsburgh. My wife is from Pittsburgh.
We deserved the Loss because we Allowed them to get into the Playoffs a few weeks earlier by sitting most of our starters.. I was Livid I remember when Lovie did that. Never sleep on a Rival in a Big Game.
@@CesarPerez-it8xy Wasn't Woodson gone the year after he got hurt? I know Tramon was gone in like 2015 or something. Collins was, you're right. Every safety's life gets easier with a lockdown corner.
Jennings was so good these days. Made ton's of difficult catches away from his frame, would hold onto most balls after taking a mean shot, had a fast release off the LOS, could make tacklers miss, and had the speed to house TD's anywhere on the field. Not fastest guy on the field speed but one of the fastest.
Defense still wins championships! The Packers started off hot on offense but cooled down considerably. Rodgers struggling, but the defense holds and even scores some points! Great job by the Pack!
For everyone of us in packernation , we look at the schedule and see where the bear games are. They get circled on our calendar and we know that week is " bear week " . no other team we play carries that kind of weight. I enjoyed watching this game live and thanks for showing it again.
same but as a bears fan it's more of dread than excitement. frankly nothing compares to bears packers, i just wish for the sake of BOTH fanbases that we had some decent qb play over the past, i dont know, 100 years? that would be awesome, and make for a competitive series.
It's interesting to note that the year the Packers had their best defense was the year they won their Super Bowl with Rodgers. In 2010, the Packers defense limited opposing passers to a 67.2 rating.
@@itsmerobinyi except against the Seahawks where they held Seattle to 15 points in regulation and gave Rodgers 5 turnovers. Against the Bucs gave him 3 turnovers.
@@jrad410 you don’t count their special teams as their defense? I mean fair enough I guess, but aren’t most the core starters on field goal block? A punter threw a TD to a backup tackle against their defensive players…
As a Chicago native and Bears fan, this one hurt. I remember not being able to watch this game because I was doing orientation at my new job for Disney in California. All the Chicago natives like myself working for Disney were so pissed when we got the news that the Bears lost to the Pack. We checked out the highlights immediately after the game in the break room on ESPN and just as we suspected, Cutler played an important part in why we lost...as well as the playcalling. It was hella Bears fan and Chicagoans in Cali, which blew my mind.
Also, they’re the ONLY team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl having started as a wild card. People can say whatever about Rodgers as a human being, but even though he only got the one ring with GB, he’s one of the all time great Packer QB’s, up there with Bart Starr and his mentor, Brett Favre.
I remember this game. This was a physical old school, smash mouth, hard hitting game. I was hurt that the Bears lost but what a game that Heanie had. He almost won the game for the Bears and made a comeback after got Cutler got hurt or whimped out. One of the two happened, in that controversy. But ever since this game never made noise again and was never that good. Probably better they lost this game as they would of probably lost of lost Super Bowl anyway, but we will never know what happened if he made the comeback.
Cutler pussing out was the only thing that gave you a remote chance lol. Cutler was playing the worst game of his life. Hanie was THE reason you had a chance.
After this game the Bears completely had a downfall. I remember when I was a kid watching this and to this day I’ll never like the Packers. We really could’ve went to the Super Bowl that year.
They were good until 2013. By 2014, the team was not able to compete with their divisional rivals due to trades and acquisitions made for those players who left the team
Jay Cutler didn't get hurt he quit the team was down 14-0 and he quit, people saw him walking down the street the next day fine with his wife so goes to show you his leadership, commitment, and passion for the game was none, Phillip Rivers played with a ACL tear and MCL Sprained in 07 AFC Championship did one of the 3 surgery he needed to fix his knee that's balls, Jay Cutler was never a great QB he was mediocre
Always respected the Lovie Smith Bears team. They were rarely as talented as my Packers but they played smart and hard and wouldn't beat themselves and took advantage of every mistake their opponents made.
The Bears had enough talent to win. Defense was stacked. Offense had Greg Olden TE, Matt Forte RB & Knox, Bennett & Hester at WR. Cutler was an average QB, talented but underperforming. They just for whatever reason never synced on offense and had successive drives.
That opening drive was a thing of beauty by Rodgers. Acting like that drive didn't get 7 pts and have a huge part in winning the game. Rodgers isn't a choker. Idgaf what anyone says. He might have had a good d here but must playoffs, his defense was TERRIBLE. He would come back only for his defense to give up the win again. Or going into huge games with guys like Janis at wr And throw whole getting that hit from peppers was a DIME. Jennings dropped it. I've seen this time and time again in games in the playoffs. Drips, fumbles etc. And Rodgers gsts called a choker Christ I almost forgot how fast Shields was. Once he has that ball, it's ROCKET MODE. Loved that dude
Not only that, but a few players like Eli Manning, Colin Kaepernick, Raheem Mostert, Matt Ryan, Carson Palmer, and Kurt Warner had the best games of their playoff careers against Rodgers
As a Bears fan, to this day I say Jay Cutler quit this NFC title Game, your the leader of the team at QB,if you go out there and break your leg, win or lose for a chance to play in the Super Bowl, SO BE IT! But to check out mid-game just showed how much of a leader he really was. You play to win.
Jay had a few open TD’s to Hester but missed them. If he steps into his throws and sets his feet, those are easy touchdowns. He gets injured later on in the game , but the game could’ve and should’ve been either tied or bears would’ve had a slight lead. Either way they probably still lose this game but it would’ve been a better position to be in . Cutler footwork was terrible.
Packers fans say that Aaron Rodgers would have won more ring if it weren't for his defense, yet here in the one NFC championship he won, he played laughably bad. The "defense" arguement only works for Drew Brees who dragged a just ok defense to the Super bowl
A Conference Title game. Between two of the biggest and most hated rivals in the NFL. The Chicago Bears 🐻 vs. the Green Bay Packers. Now that's a Championship you couldn't plan any better! The Bears dominated the Packers throughout the 80's. Walter Payton used to run circles around us! Once we got Brett Favre and after Aaron Rodgers, the Packers got their run of dominance, but it'll come back around. It always does!
To think the Bears could have avoided this fate. They had a chance to eliminate the Packers by winning their Week 17 matchup, but the Bears didn't play hard and let Green Bay into the tournament. And they've regretted it ever since.
This is the game I figured out Cutler was nothing but an average QB with a strong arm. No heart, he wasn't hurt at all, he just wanted to quit. Hurt his knee but doesn't know when? Bullshit. He was a coward.
Dustin 05 . Same here. I used to be a cutler fan starting from his days in denver. I even had his bears jersey. I stuck up for him for years. But what he did at soldier field that day. I lost all respect for him. He had a great arm. But in the end, Jay was hos own worst enemy.
You guys really think Cutler quit...I mean the game was close...the SB was right there for the taking. If he did really quit...he must be kicking himself.
How does everyone not know he was hurt and didn’t quit? He had a mri that showed he sprained his MCL. He could barely walk after the injury. You think a nfl QB can throw on a bad leg?

Raji, returned for touchdown 1:59:09 - Caleb Hanie pass to Earl Bennett for 35 yards, touchdown 2:14:22 - Caleb Hanie pass intercepted by Sam Shields 2:15:31 - Final kneeldown and celebration
A few observations from this game. 1: BJ Raji was really quick for a guy his size and had probably the single best dance move on a TD celebration in NFC championship game history. 2: This game was close to being a Packer collapse similar to the NFC championship vs Seattle. Mike M, Aaron R, and Dom C did all they could to give the ball back quickly to the Bears offense, then let them score quickly too. 3. Caleb Haney was awful close to becoming a playoff legend for his performance in this game. 4. Aaron Rodgers came very close to losing the only NFC championship game he's won and therefore not even getting a shot at the only Super Bowl he's ever been in. 5. Tim Masthay should have won MVP for his clutch, momentum changing 58 yard punt after the Packers last possession. That punt may very well have saved the Packer's bacon. 6.Aikman was a lot less anti Packer in 2010-11. He didn't throw out near as many subtle jams at the Packers in this game as he does now during Packer games. 7. Mike MCCarthy was a lot thinner for this game. This was pre Mike MCCarthy "massage gate", before Mike was sneaking massage therapists up the back stairs while the offense was installing the game plan. 8. A Mike MCCarthy led team was blowing leads even during their Super Bowl run. 9. Dom Capers hair looks exactly the same 10 years ago as it does today! Like a dead animal on top of his head. 10. A Dom Capers led defense was letting 3rd string QBs and struggling offenses keep games interesting even during the Packer's Super Bowl run! The interceptions saved the Packers and Dom from blowing this game. 11.Sam Shields is really fast for a any size.
The fact that Cutler couldn't beat the packers says it all ! But this game showed his true colors ! Rex Grossman woulda found a way to stay on that field and lead his team to victory ! This game proved that cutty was nothin more than hype !! Jeff George 2.0 Indeed !!
I'm still upset at this loss, due largely to the circumstances given and the Bears doing nothing since, only 2 playoff appearances since this game and zero playoff wins
I wouldn’t necessarily agree. The bears made it fairly competitive in the 2010s. I would say from like 2016 onwards except for 2018 when they had that one good year
... And to think the Packers were THIS close to losing to a 2nd string rookie QB. Credit though to Aaron Rodgers and his breakout playoff run of 2010 which really made a name for himself.
I feel that the play of this game was when Rodgers made that tackle on Urlacher following the INT. Reminds me a lot of Big Ben's tackle on Nick Harper from the 2005 divisional game between the Steelers and the Colts.
The only reason it was this close is because Rodgers had a horrible game. Sure, he had a rushing TD but he also threw 2 picks and completed less than 60% of his passes.
@KyoKonKyoChin didn't the bears make the super bowl with Rex Grossman in 06. They apparently don't need a good QB. You can't blame the game on one player. (Cutler)
Cutler’s problem was that he had too big of arm and didn’t know when to put more touch on the ball for better accuracy. And he turned it over a lot because of this I believe. He had a cannon for an arm.
The 2010 NFC Championship game between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears I think it's one of the greatest and it's a championship games for a divisional rivalry I wish you would have been the Bears winning it.
Everyone talks about how the Packers were a 6 Seed this year. Not enough people talk about how they never once trailed by more than 7 points in any game all season.
Looking back on this game is interesting. Notice the Packers offense starts off hot, scores their second touchdown with 11:13 remaining in the second quarter, and then completely stall out the rest of the game and score zero points. At the time we didn't think much of it...but after ten years of watching GB choke in the playoffs it is interesting to see how this narrative would repeat itself. Good thing we were up against Cutler and 3rd String QB. Todd Collins played like his full time job was a financial advisor who was actually scheduled to bring snacks for this game.
Was at home, sick as a dog, in this day. The Bears' are my backup team, but I cannot stand Jay Cutler, so it was tough to feel one way or the other about this game. Glad I missed most of it, as I was asleep most of the day!!
Bears stamped their one-way ticket to Football Hell after this...between the Bears of the 80s and early 2000s both eras could've produced a few championships but it never came together except for once in 85.
This low key turned out to be a good game. I thought Caleb Hanie was finally going to break our history of bad quarterbacks, but when he got a chance a year later , he really stunk it up . He was good for this game , I give him a lot of credit placed in a bad situation gave the bears a chance to win.
The quality of nfl games has really ranked since this. I don’t mean the picture quality but the actual games. It’s like movies…they used to script them better
Mike Swiedals look it up. There’s a sports channel, and it’s all fixed by the numbers. Lol once you see it you can’t even deny it and say it’s a coincidence
Bear down. Man this one hurt. that last pick me and the boys in the man cave that night was pissed the refs didnt call pass interference on GB.. oh well water under the bridge
