Agree 100% on the notion that we need more diesels. I just got a 2009 TDI Jetta and I'm loving it - and I can't help but snicker at my hybrid pals who drive boring, slow cars while I get the same, or better MPG. Can't wait to get it performance tuned. I'll get 50 more hp and at least the same torque increase while improving my MPG. Diesels Rule
I had a 2004 tdi manual when I was in high school and then my first year of college as a commuter student. I loved that car so much!!! I really want to get another tdi. I never had an issue with it. Even after the mechanic ruined the engine and it was spitting smoke everywhere it still started like a champ and would limp it's way to were ever you needed it. True loyal reliable car.
I bought this car a month ago and this is my first car ...My family want me to get prius and i hated it. I was looking into volkswagen eos or CC cus it's fancy..When i saw this car at dealer i give it a chance to test drive cus interior is amazing. It's simple car and more practical.. just what i needed. Eos and CC have like window or roof problem that could occur and it will cost $500 to fix each time for each window or roof may be much more so i end up buying this simple little cute car. This is my first car and i drove some of my family car..this is easiest to drive and comfortable. Plus Disel are cheaper then regular gas at my area nowadays. Couldn't be happier ..and this car drove fast enough to change lane and get over other cars. Never felt lack of power in this car.
I've a 2010 Jetta 2.5 L gasoline engine. Absolutely love the car, the transmission is not DSG but it is still very fast especially in sport mode. It never fails to put a smile of my face and the handling is phenomenal. If you're looking at a compact car. Dont bother with a civic or corolla, for the quality and reliability you are getting in the Jetta, it's a no brainer. Das Auto!!!
I just got a 2010 Jetta sportwagen TDI. It has 80,000 miles and its run really smooth. I was between the TDI or the Prius but once I test drove the TDI I was instantly hooked. The Torque, the steering feedback, the Panoramic Sun Roof, the quality materials inside the car and that DSG. I just couldn't say no. Hopefully it holds up good and I get none of that VW electrical problems thats its known for. We shall see.
Catch the Wave Just curious on your thoughts about it today. I think you made the right decision. I would've gone with a Jetta TDI as well. Drives better and doesn't look ugly.
Just picked up a 2010. Drove it hard in sport mode the entire first tank of fuel and averaged 32 mpg. This car does a great job at providing an enjoyable driving experience with great fuel milage. The DSG maintenence is pricey and must not be skipped, but it is a very very sweet transmission.
The iPod jack is up on the top all the way to the right in the glovebox.....or at least it is in the 07 my family has. Broke 73k on my dad's 07 Jetta 2.5 yesterday and still NO problems and no creaks or rattles or anything inside. Overall I really love the car its still great and brand new looking for an almost 6 year old car and it really is more upscale looking and feeling than ANYTHING else in the class. Not to mention its a fun car to drive even with the automatic!
Fantastic!! Thanks so much for reviewing this one. VW actually used to offer a TDI in the Passat (2004-2005 I believe). It was the last great Passat (based on Audi A4 platform) with a second to none interior...45mpg
Unfortunately my car has been acting up so bad lately. I have had it in and out of the garage so many times now and 100s of dollars later 😩 as much as I love the car I have to get rid of it. But best of luck to you with the car!
I agree. In the San Francisco Bay Area, diesel is regularly priced around the same as premium gas, so for a diesel to make fiscal sense, there is a lot of cost/benefits math involved.
Just a little tip: Look at the camera lens, not at the LCD screen. That way you'll appear to be looking directly at the viewer, not off to the side. :-)
Correction VW updated the jetta for 2012 with all rear discs, for 2013 se and up they added metal trim inside and chrome exterior strip, now all models even gli are missing rear ac vents, soft touch material is only reserved for hybrid gli or sel models. rear suspension is still twist beam on all tdi and 2.5 engines, gli and hybrid get independent suspension.
I wonder why americans love the jetta.in germany it´s hard to find jettas on the roads even though they´re from here. 50 % are diesel cars here these days but i don´t like them too much.the diesel shines at high speeds(100mph +)where its way more fuel efficient than the gas equivalent.but as i would live in the us or canada i would stick with the gas motor since it is fuel efficient too at highway speeds, has lower maintainance costs and sounds way better. i like the channel. best from germany :)
In NY (on Long Island), the price of diesel yesterday was $4.25 (9) and I used and paid $3.73 (9) for regular 87 octane - what our car recommends and we use. 50c/gallon is a huge difference, which is why Priuii are so prevelant around here plus you can use the HOV lane during rush hour in a Prius and not have a passenger. Love the diesel option for it's torque and improved fuel economy, but cost and convenience out weigh it for now - at least around here.
video helped persuade me to buy a 2010 tdi. Love the car. No major complaints. Good MPG pretty fun to drive. More fun then my b5 passat 2.8. good handling. Comfy interior and ride.
Great vid! my grandmother bought an 06' 1.9tdi brand new when they came out we have taken it on many trips and have averged over 45 mpg everytime even through the smokies. It currently has over 170k the only bad part is the servicing esp. at the 100k mark is around $1k, she has only had a couple of issues like the fly wheel and a faulty brake caliper. Keep them coming!
Ah yes the TDI, what probably 90% of Jetta's here in the UK use. In face most cars here are diesel, a traffic jam sounds like a tractor meet. Happily our car uses good old petrol
The mk6 jetta in europe does have the rear vents, some people though retrofit the us spec ones with the rear vents. and some select mk5 jettas us spec ones have dual zone climate, they took it away for the us market though after a few years.
Hey Sofyan, I`ve been watching your videos for quite a lok time on both chanels actually. Do you think you can review a mk3 or mk4 jetta? Preferably manual and diesel. Btw, congrats on your marriage proposal, really happy for you. Thanks!
I agree on the fact that they're should be more diesel in America other than expensive hybrids, I mean I don't have a problem with people driving boring unattractive hybrids, but I just wish diesels on cars, not just trucks would be a option for other automotive brands other than Mercedes, BMW, and Volkswagen.
i once heard these struts (6:01) are very weak, if you lower it unevenly (pushing from only one side), they will bend and then trunk wont close. Still true?
My dad just bought a 2008 model jetta with 42500 miles or 68000 km will it be a good first diesel car for us and its a manual with top of the line variant
TDIs do get better mileage, but wouldn't the higher price of diesel defeat the purpose since it would basically balance out with paying less for gasoline with worse mileage?
it is also strange that afterthe 2010 model, VW took away tons of key features of the car to reduce the price. Soft touch dash, movable arm rest, rear discs, independ. rear suspension, rear outlet, trunk struts, folding seats, locking rear seats, electric front seats etc, etc, etc. they made the 2011 into junk....now you need to add a special fluid into a container mounted in the trunk that keeps emissions down cause it no longer has a cad. converter.
They're pretty much the same car I think, except one's a hatchback and one's a sedan. They use the same front end because there's no reason to change it.
I know I'll get hate for this comment but in my opinion the mk5 is the nicest jetta till this day and looks as if it will remain so..owned 2 and loved them both dearly....since its last year in 2010 it has gotten cheap looking and build quality has gone down.. Looked at the lastest one and it's absolutely ugly and cheap. Just my opinion.
its torquey but its not making that much power in full line accel& themaintence and shit on the diesel i personally think i would be better off with the turbo or 5 cylinder.the economy is in the upper 30's and cost to own is WAY less.yeah yeah fun to drive factor but there is one thing that other cars just CANNOT do turn off in traffic. i couldent give a rat's ass about hybrid reputation ours has 108K miles and needed nothing but tires.has 4 speeding tickets under it and can move when u want it.
Hmmm...well, I've had 9 and I guess I've been "lucky?" because I've never had any problems. Sorry to hear you had bad experiences with them. Hope what ever your driving now is being better to ya. Peace.
wow, you are blessed. Mine have been a nightmare with service people that can't even fix my Jetta. Gave me a list to replace just about everything because the engine would shake whenever it wanted. Turns out i fixed it with a new computer i paid for. Original computer made in Malaysia. German, bullsh.
Sofyan! The 2013 Jetta SE and up will all have the upscale interior! You shoulve said that since people were forgetting about the Jetta and buying something else because of its interior. BTW discs are all standard now, and fully auto 4 windows with one touch up down every window which you cannot say for the Focus. And rear suspension on the SE and up is also standard, and next year with the 1.8T replacing the I5, it will be a nice car again!
I'm about to buy one of these. If I may ask have you had allot of problems with the vehicle? And how much did you pay for the car? Yours an automatic or a standard gear box ?
Fred Medina 0609370 i bought mine in October of '14 its such a great car! i haven't had any problems with it! i got it for $20,000 with 80,000 miles on it! it drives like a brand new car!
Fred Medina 0609370 my car is 2010 also I bought it for £6600 and I think I had a good deal because I love the car drives it drives like new. I don't know what that is in dollars but if your happy with the car its money well spent.
That was mid 2012 when they went to discs. And trust me after working for VW for four years I know the SE 2.5 and TDI and up trim levels get soft touch dash. And yea I forgot about the suspension but they are considering bringing it back into the SEL
i have a 2010 jetta tdi sedan and i must say it is the best car i have ever owned at any price! it also has sooooo many features that you didn't cover. What an excellent car! I do wonder why everyone doesn't buy one. Diesel motors have less moving parts and i hope to get 500,000 miles out of mine!
