As a baseball fan I love what Billy did. His way of thinking. He almost had no care in the world when he put that team together, at least Brad Pitt made it seem that way

I am romantic about baseball and I am going to Miss Foss, he was a part of the A's as much as he was a part of us fans, feel like I knew him on a personal level... Much love to him, his family and the A's organization. 💚

Its crazy he hates watching the games and immediately the rangers get a base hit. Miracles in baseball.

I know there are many who absolutely hate the concept of how Mr. Beane approached it, but what else can you do when you know, every year, that you can never overcome the reality of working for an organization that refuses to spend beyond a very low, preset limit? It was a bold move and ended up proving it could work (to a point) if everyone was willing to embrace it. It must be disheartening to know that you are nothing but an auditioning stage for players to showcase their talents so the big money powers can have their bidding war to pick you clean of talent every year, talent that you worked so hard to develop and mold.

The Rays cracked that code, too. And the Yankees consistently demonstrate that big payrolls don’t guarantee October success.

that's the business model of some franchises, not just in baseball

@@brianmeese1641 I’m a Mets fan so had to not sound like a yankee boy. But what championship have the rays won? It’s still going to fall back to earth after the luck runs out. These teams in baseball that can’t spend, who take money from big markets and pocket it every year, should have to sell the team, relocate, or cut the amount of teams in The league down. It’s embarrassing and if you can’t afford to field a decently rostered team, you shouldn’t own a team.
@brianmeese1641
@brianmeese1641 2 года назад
@@mattrasp1615 Since 2008, the Rays have a winning record. Seven playoff runs, two pennants. Last year, they won 100 games, so right up there with the Dodgers and Giants. If, as a fan, you have an above 500 chance of seeing your team win, then you are a happy fan. And happy fans are what make baseball, or any sport, go around. The Rays are not rich but they’re smart. Not to mention their minor league pitcher development program, which outshines just about everybody. Just as in business and life, money is rarely the answer.
@stephenjones1488

@@brianmeese1641 right up there with giants and dodgers? Dodgers have won a WS, Giants won 3, Ray's won 0. I get what you're saying..but not quite the same bud.

It is a similar situation in England with regards to the Premier League. Certain clubs have little choice but to develop local talent through their academy schools and then they lose their top players to the bigger teams. The balance is starting to make it much less of an even contest.
@yewnew
@yewnew 2 года назад
Similar to the situation of Ajax Amsterdam in European leagues. A combination of developing players and good financial management can make a difference

LIverpool have been using the Moneyball model since Fenway sports group took them over and they’ve got a great reputation for smart cheap buys of not ‘obvious’ players.
@dendemano
@dendemano 2 года назад
@@Seandunc69 To be fair I hadn't really noticed. Have you got a few examples. That method would have huge impact at an already wealthy, but seemingly well run club. I feel Villa have also got a solid platform and an ongoing plan in building an infrastructure. Especially, our recent investment in our academy that is starting to show dividends. Oh yeah, sorry we couldn't hang on against City.

@@dendemano Robertson is a classic, picked up from a relegated team 👍 Alas I’m from Salford (a different kind of red 😂) and my team could certainly learn from Liverpools example! 😂😂

5:45 I knew it! I knew Philip Seymore Hoffman was fantastic as Art Howe. It is really sad that Art Howe has tried to pretend he was on board with Billie Beane and Peter Brand's ideas and wasn't a tradionalist in the way now. It is very cowardly of Art Howe to do that now that Hoffman has passed away. Glad Billie Beane here confirms that Hoffman gave a great authentic performance to that bumbling fool Art Howe that couldnt't see or understand what they were doing.

@@MrGameonthis that's not what Jonah Hill had problems with, the negative/positive tone of their comments. It was their comments themselves. For a while, and I remember this too, the only thing people would talk about when talking about Jonah Hill was his weight. And that fact was what bothered him. It was never about his acting or his ideas or his moves or anything else, only his weight. And sure enough, right here. If they have to mention Hill, they have to mention his weight, like clockwork
